Mom Life... what does life look like for a new Bear Mom? The BEAR League, in cooperation with Just a Little Light Fine Photography (justalittlelight.com), has been fortunate again this winter to observe several Moms with a cub or two in the winter den under a home or deck in the Tahoe Basin.
We are delighted to introduce Mama Hope and Baby Decklan--now seven weeks old.
BEAR League and JaLL have developed customized camera rigs to film the bears without disturbing them. Trail cameras require regular intervention to change photo cards and batteries etc and this can be extremely stressful for the bears as well as illegal on public land. Our custom camera rigs totally avoid this issue and provide 24/7 monitoring throughout the winter den cycle.
Now that Baby Decklan is big enough to be seen, rather than just disappearing into her Mama's fur, we will be sharing more footage so you can watch her grow and then come out into the world, on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Enjoy.
