I can relate to the standing out as an electrical engineer on your resume part. Graduated in 2019 with my bachelor's in electrical engineer Did my internship as a MEP engineer not many Electrical Engineers going into construction. Now working as a construction inspector supervising NYC new construction buildings and using the NEC (National Electric Code NFPA 70)
That's awesome, just don't become disconnected from your soldiers, remember what your job is and get to know them and teach them when you can and listen to enlisted who's been in a long time.The enlisted can make or break a officers career, so put them first always. Remember what you are and why a soldier exist. Don't fall in that trap I see so many do when they want the rank for status and show, but that's it. If you remember that you're going to do amazing and go far, good luck !

I joined the marine corps ten years ago and going foy my cs degree and than the masters, i did have a top security clerance too, so there is loads of opportunities that will open up. Good for you man! Squeeze as much as the military as you can. Depending on the situation you can get real f'd up from them so you can get pretty screwed lol.... so congrats to you man, take care of yourself as good as you can and milk em dry!
I love the MF Peanut pfp. I have my BS in software engineering and struggling to get a job, even with 2 yrs of experience. I'm about to quit my manufacturing job and start traveling across the states and doing freelancing. If it doesn't work out, I'll go back to school for a masters in electrical engineering.
It was definitely smart to get a degree before joining the military because you join as an officer (alright butter bars, just kidding 😂). And you’re right you stand out more, but let’s not forget you sign your life over to the military 😅. As long if you really wanted to be a soldier then that’s what matters most but if you’re doing it for tuition then that’s a big price to pay, so hopefully you’re choosing for the right reasons. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing your story and good luck to you and your sister. Hopefully she’s becoming a soldier because that’s what she really wants.

My family is from Ghana but came to the states years ago. I’m currently working towards a Mechanical's Engineering degree first year . Had some people advise me to join the Navy. Should I finish school first or and join after or join now and finish school after?
FINISH SCHOOL FIRST! They cover all federal student loans you earned before enlisting... So you have wiggle room to rack up to their limit. If I had known , I definetly would of collected much more to have a more comfortable time in college, and not loose so many hours working instead of studying.
Do you have Green Card? Or do you get there as asylum seeker? Just wondering since refugees can't join the Navy and the number of Ghanaian green card recipients is very low?

@@Dreamjr95going to community college save money. And if u are able to network and talk to ur advisors they can help u a lot. U can watch videos of people going to ivy league schools/ really great schools after they have went to community college

Could you explain that "officer route" ? This has peaked my interest as I just started studying.
Why would a security clearance matter in the civilian world?

Definitely wanted to serve. But the incentives helped one make that final leap.

Anything worth while is never easy... The rewards easily overcome the temporary struggle you'll face in college.
