Fasting absolutely works. Satan was coming for my mind. In the beginning he was winning. That is, until I went into a fast. I dedicated myself to prayer, asked for forgiveness of my short comings and of others. Cried out and surrendered my will for his. In the end, I came to accept his will for my life, not because it pleased me, but it became more important to me to please God and to honor him for all of the things he's done for me while navigating this thing called life. He's been great, faithful and always there for me. I want to reciprocate in return. I came to this decision and confidence all through the acts of fasting, worshipping and prayer. Thank you God for your gift of fasting as a way to breakthrough the chaos and confusion Satan creates in the mind. Amen.

You'll look back at this one too in time after he takes you through it whichever way he chooses as a solid assurance of his love and care for you. Yes, fasting is great for the soul, for praying to God and getting clearer understanding to hear from God! Jesus fasted in Matthew 4:1-11 He overcame the temptations of his flesh and Satan. Fasting is to consecrate ourselves fully before The Lord to hear from The Lord God, not for Him to fill our wants, but Spiritual needs! Whatever you feed more, you will be stronger in the thing you feed! We must make progress in Christ. It is good to get before the Lord God intimately daily for direction! It is not anything to do with religion or outward service, but serving The Lord God and others!❤

Just a small note, but I do think the right exegesis for Isaiah 58:5 (at 8:18) is to include that verse with the improper fast the Israelites were doing. They only appeared outwardly to be humbling themselves by using sackcloth and ashes (see also v.3); this is in contrast to the type of humility that God requires in a fast, where sacrificial service is given (v. 6-7). Notice that the sackcloth and ashes aren't mentioned in verse 10.

I get caught up on the problem of evil and stuff but i don’t wanna be. I care so much about my relationship with God yet my brains against it so it’s super strange. Hi, I'm not sure if you still have these issues from back when you first posted. I have had some dealings with satan of my own. For me, in addition to a fast to get rid of satan's hold on me, I had to rid him from my mind as well as my space. I know it's hard to do, you may have to ask your spiritual leaders to help you with your prayers. Satan won't back up unless he is confronted by spiritually anointed, won't back down, holy ghost filled faith. You may need reinforcement. Until you become firm in what you believe and who you believe in, his demons will always come back to torment and to take residence. You can take back control by arming yourself with the Word of God, specifically those scriptures that rebuke and assures Satan he has no power over you. When you do, mean and own what you say, resist the devil and he will flee; however, you have to give yourself fully to God. Satan knows that you may not be there yet and takes full advantage of your weakness and vulnerability. We've all been there. You can do this but you have to be firm in your commitment to God. When you decide unwaiveringly only to serve the Lord, Satan is weakened. I'm praying for you. It's time you give Satan a real run for his money. Battle him to reclaim you. Don't make it easy for him. As long as there's no serious battle, he and his demons stick around.. Now, let me pray. God, please break chains and yokes of affliction that Satan mockingly claim as evidence of his dominion over this person's life. I stand in the way of his victory and deny him access to this person. Lord, beyond this prayer, send your warring angels to fight along side your child to battle, reclaim and permanently sever all ties he has to this person. Lord I pray your child re-dedicates there life to you. I also pray that they go on to do great and marvelous things for the kingdom in gratitude and in complete surrender of their will. My question is how to know which fast God chooses? There are several different ones outlined in the Bible.
That is less important than doing it with humility and repentance. Coming before God in that fashion, will lead to His guidance.
