No one was better at programming for this console than Rare. I would replay them if I could it's a about 70 bucks for a Nintendo 64 now. But now I'm I'm use to my PC and ps4 games. Nothing wrong with it. However there are great games from all eras.
The fact that I haven't played this game or watched anyone play it since pre-2000, yet I remember something as subtle as the children laughing at the 0:10 mark when the RARE logo comes on gives you an idea of the memorable moments (of which there are many) and lasting power of this game in my heart.

The trick of Diddy Kong Racing is to take your thumb off the acceleration when you hit a speed boost. It doubles the speed of the boost, which I don't think many people ever realized.

Flying around and grabbing balloons was always my favorite part of this game when I was younger. This and the City Trial mode in Kirby Air Ride kept me entertained for hours
I'm actually surprised at how few people that grew up with this game figured out that they can maximize the speed boosts from items, boost pads, and rocket starting by letting up off the accelerator before it fires off.
The nostalgia I get from this game, playing it back in 01 02 03 when I was 5 6 and 7. Some people really don't understand the true fun back in these days. No worries of a pandemic either. Wish I could relive the past and have the imagination I had when I was a kid playing this game.
Agree or Disagree with me but Diddy Kong Racing is better than Mario Kart 64. Why? Because in Diddy Kong Racing the characters are actual 3D models and the courses look more beautiful. Mario Kart 64 has the characters as 2D models which didn't impress me at all, it was more like anti-impressing for me. I wish they could remake this in gorgeous HD!
Also forgot to mention Diddy Kong Racing gives you vehicle options which is what differentiates from Mario Kart and has a great story/adventure mode. Another example of a good racing game is Crash Team Racing.
I remember playing this game so much. Just racing throughout the course, not a care in the world, having so much fun, playing mini games and stuff. Good times man, good times.
This and Sonic R are both extremely underrated collect-a-thon racers that are better than Mario Kart by a LOT. Yes. Even Sonic R. At least that game had FAIR ai, even in hard mode.
Ah yes, the 1990s. Back when Rareware was a top video gaming company, and Donkey Kong was relevant outside of Mario and even STARRED in his own games. Those were good times.
I wish this was available on Nintendo switch store or they do another remake. Oh nostalgia ❤ I think this whole race was a prelude to how Conker had a bad fur day, like I think anyone would be having a bad day if they were getting blown up by rockets lol
This is a very good game because of its ideas: racing on multiple tracks like in Mario Kart, but with a sense of purpose, which is the adventure element of the game. The only thing I was always so annoyed about is the frustration I got when I played the coin races. Those coins were always hidden at inconvenient locations and were always the reason that it took me a very long time to complete certain levels. I was never able to complete the game and didn't even race on one of the tracks in the final space level. For this reason it's always nice to see that some people upload these videos, so I can see what the game has to offer.
Wow incredible. It took me 22 years to finally see the ending of this game lol I honestly completely forgot about this game.I would always pick timber as a kid. I never beat it though. It’s been a long time but I feel like I could never get pass collecting all the sliver coins to race the dragon a 2nd time. Either way this was one of my favorite games growing up with a N64. Great times.
I was 10 when this game came out in 1997 my parents had bought us a N64 for Christmas that year and this was the first game that came with it. We used to have all the neighbors kids come over and spend hours playing this game in the summer time. God how I miss those days.
I remember as a kid there was a mechanic that used the bananas in adventure mode, I noticed the more you collected the more speed you get. I used to collect almost all the bananas and have my speedometer red lined. My siblings always wondered why I was faster than them in VS races
the feeling of accomplishment as a kid when i finally beat this game was incredible.almost like beating sonic 2 without dying once.i was sweating bullets xD
Man, the second Octopus boss race took me _forever_ to beat, as I kept getting suspended in his bubbles. Even now, 25 years later, those watery taunts of “A-HA-HA!” haunt my dreams.
The best N64 game along with Mario 64, it takes me back to my childhood, before you only received a game for your birthday or at Christmas, and you squeezed and replayed it to the maximum and always with enthusiasm, the music was spectacular, while most of my friends and schoolmates had the PS1... I was one of the few who was able to enjoy this magnificent console, greetings to all who were able to enjoy it like me. What beautiful memories.
Saudade....
Man, I remember renting this on the DS from Blockbuster. I had no idea if that memory was real or a weird fever dream I had at age 8. While I was playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this weird memory came back to me. It’s too weird how vivid it is, the memory.
2:55:20 This party is where Conker got his first taste of alcohol. He was never the same. From this day forth, he could rarely find a sober moment of his tortured life.
The kids laughing in the beginning is a "stock laughing sound" that are used in many movies/commercials so that's why many ppl recognizes it! This did annoy me so much when I was a kid and tried to explain to my friends that the laugh from the kids in Diddy Kong was the same laugh that could be heard in so many movies/commercials. Nobody really understood me or couldn't hear it, but for me who had played the game for countless of hours had that laugh printed in my mind, recognized it immediately! You can even hear this stock laugh today in some new productions, kinda weird that they haven't recorded some new kids laughing in all this time! Really hope this kid gets some kind of royalties for this, he/she must be a millionaire then!
Oh I definitely know what you're talking about! It's one of those stock sounds that super common like the Wilhelm sound. Imagine the kids who did this laugh are paying their mortgage today just because of a laugh they did in the 90's. 🤣

I used to have both this and Mario kart 64. Dropped Mario kart after playing diddy kongs racing. It's so much better in every way.
I'm actually surprised at how few people that grew up with this game figured out that they can maximize the speed boosts from items, boost pads, and rocket starting by letting up off the accelerator before it fires off.
I was just about to post a comment about that😌
as a 10 year old playing this game, any time an adult would play with me i would absolutely clobber them.
jeremy davis even kids my age only knew about Mario kart so when they tried this game I totally owned.
Those were the days, eh?
Yeah Pipsy was my all time favourite
Reminds me so much of the year 1998 when I first started playing it. I was 9 years old. It was a great year.
Same here when I was a little kid when I got this
Thank you so much for this! Its relaxing to watch and so much nostalgia!
The nostalgia I get from this game, playing it back in 01 02 03 when I was 5 6 and 7. Some people really don't understand the true fun back in these days. No worries of a pandemic either. Wish I could relive the past and have the imagination I had when I was a kid playing this game.
Hardest game I've ever played... I stopped playing when it got too difficult
Try doing Adventure Two if you want "difficult".
@@LITTLE1994 what you said🥺☝️
@@LITTLE1994That’s where the tracks are mirrored and much more difficult.
It’s amazing how well the games still hold up today.
+Brandon Williams Preach on man! I definitely agree. Mario Kart 64 get praised too much.
+Brandon Williams "Gorgeous HD"
You know technically HD can mean 640x480 1280x720 or 1920x1080 or 2160x3840 right?
+Brandon Williams You really dislike Mario Kart 64 just because of the graphics? I pity you...
***** 640x480 (480p) is HD
1280x720 (720p) is HD
1920x1080 (1080p) it True HD
3840x2160 (4K/2160p) is Ultra HD
This is where my addiction to racing games came from! No lie.
Outstanding soundtracks
I remember playing this game so much. Just racing throughout the course, not a care in the world, having so much fun, playing mini games and stuff. Good times man, good times.
This game has created a memory that I will never forget for as long as I live. I love this game.
Kinda of loved this game way back when. I couldn't stand the Silver Coin Challenges, though.
The music you hear when talking to TT was such a BANGER. I used to get absolutely TURNT lol
Cellllebrate good times, come on! 🎶🎵
I was SOOOO stoked when this game was announced... lol I was 7 years old. What the heck, time.
Our childhood is already considered ancient, try to imagine how old we’ll be in 100 years
Omg the memories playing against my brother good times I miss this game so much can’t wait to get my Nintendo 64 working again so I can play it
This is one of the games that are part of my good times, even though I could never complete it at that time.
This and Sonic R are both extremely underrated collect-a-thon racers that are better than Mario Kart by a LOT. Yes. Even Sonic R. At least that game had FAIR ai, even in hard mode.
Never actually played Sonic R. Wasn't as fond of Sonic as I was with Mario.
Sonic R, it's that music my goodness
Crash Team Racing
Ah yes, the 1990s. Back when Rareware was a top video gaming company, and Donkey Kong was relevant outside of Mario and even STARRED in his own games. Those were good times.
I wish this was available on Nintendo switch store or they do another remake. Oh nostalgia ❤ I think this whole race was a prelude to how Conker had a bad fur day, like I think anyone would be having a bad day if they were getting blown up by rockets lol
Checked out your page, your art is amazing Emily 👍very talented
Has the game in 97, got bored of it. And played it again in 2007 and finally beat it lol
Mee too bro! After 24 years i discovered the end :)
I was 10 when this game came out in 1997 my parents had bought us a N64 for Christmas that year and this was the first game that came with it. We used to have all the neighbors kids come over and spend hours playing this game in the summer time. God how I miss those days.
Loved the characters in this game - great music, track design - overall good game
Pipsy was the best racer
T.T
Tiptup
I always like playing Timber
I love her because she is a sneaky turner, TT, Drumstick and Diddy are good too but I like to give them all a go as the characters are all so cute.
I still have this game and my Nintendo 64. Good times..
This unlocked sooo many childhood memories
The nostalgia almost brings a tear to my eye
Philadelphia and the world are burning down around me and I'm here weeping over my nostalgia.
Imagine if this game came back on new gens? I probably get in a heartbeat. This was and still is one of my all time N64 favorite games.
Diddy Kong Racing is better than the entire Mario Kart series; can't change my mind.
