- WW2 Diorama in 1/35. Title “Death of the Commander “.
This video contains pictures and video cuts from when I built the vignette / diorama.
The scenario:
France late 1944. The highly decorated and mythical commander of a German “kampfgruppe” have 3 minutes ago got his right leg blown off. For 2 minutes his soldiers tried to save his life, he died one minute ago.
His best friend to the right in the picture is in chock, the soldier to the left is shouting to him to leave the dead commander and return to his tank.
The rest of the soldiers feel abandoned.
The standing officer is pointing at the direction where the enemy are.
The rest is up to your own imagination.
Name: “Death of the Commander”
Scene: WWII, France late 1944.
Scale: 1/35
Panther tank: Darius Miniatures.
Building: DioDump. DD046
Figures: Warriors, Alpine.
Built by: Erik Westberg, Sweden, alias Diowork.
My website: www.diowork.se
I think this is the first dio I've seen where someone depicts the gruesomeness of war. You took it to another level in terms of imagination. Very well done..... I'm inspired.
Zak Mitchell, wow! That’s very kind words! That was exactly what I wanted people to see. /Erik
I guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost the password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Israel Mohammad instablaster :)
@Malcolm Alexis Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Malcolm Alexis it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
Best diorama I've seen the last couple of years. Especially in terms of having a different approach. It's got style. Man, it's got style. Dark, brutal and almost dropped out of a newsreel. A role model!
Thank you so much Volker! Very kind words! /Erik
Wow what a piece of work
The scene is always living the moment is like a flashlight and the soldiers seems to move on in the next Moment.
You catch the moment
The moment of great pain and the hopless of the soldiers and the helpless of the komrads who cant save the live because of the injuries of the comander
And you save the will of revenge in the face of one tank Crew man who shouts there it comes from fire over there Kill them
The moment of war looks like
Great work
Yours Frank
Frank Galetzka Thanks for your kind words! I am glad you noticed all the details. /Erik
Outstanding job!! the wounded takes this to a whole new level......love it!!
Seeker of Truth Thanks a lot man! /Erik
Evocative and gorgeous dio, many details to enjoy...a lot!
Phil, thank you! I am glad you like it. It’s my best dio so far. Take care! /Erik
I’ve seen this three times...March 7th 2021
This really nice... most modelers just do movement and basic action dioramas
THIS DIORAMA HAS EMOTION ... it truly emphasizes the true cost and ugliness of WAR... all soldiers care about their comrades in battle... most times they fight for each other... not for any particular beliefs... A COMMON BOND , TO SURVIVE AND GO HOME TOGETHER... sorry for rambling... THIS IS ONE OF BEST I EVER SEEN... CHRIS from OHIO
Hi Chris! Thank you very much! There is a lot of diorama with “soldiers drinking coffee and relaxing”. Nothing wrong with that, I will do such builds to, but it’s nice to do something totally different sometimes. If I have the possibility I do what to build something that show the viewers the emotion of the figures in the diorama.
Take care! /Erik
Amazing Diorama, a lot of details and sad story told. Keep up building. Very nice.
Baba Iron Thanks man, fur sure there will be more of this stuff! /Erik
Well built, but historically wrong. There were no SS troops with late panther G tanks in Italy by the end of the war.
Mr Mercury Thanks man! You are totally right of course. It was stupid of me to write ITALY late 1944. I should not have written anything about a place or time, sorry. Cheers Erik
@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg No need to be sorry. It's a fantastic piece. Name it "Somewhere in Europe 1945" and it fits.
The compact nature of the base, the use of angles make this a big winner, Erik. You are a very talented modeller and I love your craftsmanship, it took something special to pull this diorama off.
Mark Edwards, thank you so much! I worked really hard with this diorama, it seems to pay off! There are a lot of nice comments.
Your kind words will be of help in the future:) Thanks! /Erik
Absolutely impeccable work the amount of patience one must have is mind blowing to me good job
I am glad you like it Jack Nicholls! Thanks! /Erik
Very nice work. Nice details. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇧🇪
The focus on the figures and the scenery brings that wonderful and terrible diorama to a high level, not only of skills, but of emotions it can create to the spectator! Impressive! Well done!
PassifloraIncarnataG Thanks a lot! I really wanted to do something else than soldiers drinking coffee or loading a tank, something that make people write comments like yours! Thanks again:) /Erik
In a nutshell: "Perfect and great work!" 👍
JOST ScaleModelling Thanks a lot! /Erik
Intense scene. You captured the horrific reality of war time loss. Brilliant work. Bill
PanzermansBunker Thanks a lot! /Erik
Wow 🤘🏻👍🏻👏🏻Amazing. I love your Chanel
Greetings from the Bastel 🤘🏻Bude
Thanks a lot!
Wow, what a great attention to details, I love it!
Thanks a lot Berra!
Axel, Thanks a lot! /Erik
Because I enjoyed your Dio so much I’m looking forward to seeing more so I’ve subscribed.👍
Thanks Jason! /Erik
Espectacular, magnífico trabajo 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇪🇦
fipe fipe Thanks a lot! /Erik
Superb Erik, simply fantastic, I mean you even put detail as small as the shoe laces. This is the type of bits I look at and try to include sometimes in my dioramas. I added a oily hand print on my BT-42 and I thought that was good until I saw yours. Wow. I hope you and your family are all OK and staying safe
Mottys Military Models Thanks man! Yes everything ok here in Sweden so far! Take care! /Erik
Hi, it's nice work and dramatic finish. I'm happy that I could watch such as video. I just joined your channel, thank you !!
Thanks a lot panzer-meister! /Erik
Y’know, this looks amazing. But what I truly love about this, is that it isn’t that crazy talented, “I just built my own church from scratch.” Type diorama. Don’t get me wrong, you are very talented. But coming from a newbie to this, this is very inspiring. Thank you!
Thanks a lot Cole! Well that’s exactly what I like to hear:) Take care! /Erik
Very nice and well made video about your creation of the diorama. Your detailing is done perfectly.
Great scenery with first-class representation. I wish you a nice weekend, Erik. Greetings, Joachim
I am glad that you liked it Joachim! I really improved my skills while working with this diorama, hopefully this will help me in the next project. Have I nice Sunday my friend:) /Erik
Blood is pouring out of his destroyed leg
Water is pouring out of the broken pipe
The Country is destroyed
The Commander is dead.
A Poem? No: An outstanding Diorama.
Thanks a lot man! /Erik
A great work, perfectly made down to the smallest detail, a very inspirated presentation. class.....
Thanks a lot man! /Erik
Terrific work Eric....👏👏 Haven’t used Warrior or Alpine figures myself yet, but you’ve done a great job promoting them...fantastic painting skills! The building looks smart too, Diodump do have some great accessories. The overall scene looks excellent, and very tastefully done depicting the injuries. Well done!🔝🙂👍
Barbarossa 641 Oh man, that’s kind words! Thanks a lot! /Erik
Awesome work, mate! Very well done! :)
Thanks a lot man:) /Erik
Wow. Ich habe selten eine so eindringliche Szene gesehen. Spitzenklasse.
Mc Morphin Thanks man! /Erik
Alter ist das krass!!!!! Mega geil gemacht!!!!!! Der Neid zerfrisst mich gerade. Hammer geil!! Großen Respekt 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Christian Ulbrich Thank you very much! /Erik
Guido Rajkovic Thanks a lot! /Erik
Looks.a nice set I wouldn't use that cut and shut tank that's the only thing that spoils all this amazing work! I'm sure you'll have a 1.35 scale panther you could add to it if you do this kind of thing apart from the tank its absolutely great I really like that set!
I am glad you like the set. Sorry for not please you with the Panther. I hope you will like my upcoming projects:) /Erik
Wow, very well done... The closer you zoomed into the grass the more realistic it looked, seriously, most zooms make the grass look fake...
Paul Bialozor Thanks! I live doing ground and grass on my diorama! /Erik
For not being a "how to video" it was an excellent tutorial. Can I ask what was the clay you used to make the cobble stones and is the roller with the pattern home made or purchased? Cheers Stu NZ
Hi Stuart, thanks a lot man!
The rolling pin is from Greenstuff:
www.greenstuffworld.com/en/22-textured-rolling-pins
I use regular air drying clay.
Cheers, take care! /Erik
Great job. It's fun to watch the diorama slowly building up as you apply the various techniques.
Model Nerd, Thanks, I am glad you like it! Cheers Erik
Grisly but authentic diorama - excellent detailing and work !
Thanks Martin Davies! /Erik
So detailed. Very Very nice job.
The only thing I didn't like was that the figures weren't weathered to fit the scene , to clean and shiny for the situation they were in , otherwise excellent work , even if not historically accurate *thumb's up* !
Hi, of course you are right. I still have very much to learn, I have only been doing this hobby for 5 years so I am still learning:)
I am glad you like it. /Erik
Hello Erik, very impressive. What a feeling for detail, story and drama. It's looks like a ww2-piëta to me, with the dead commander surrounded by his mourning and desperate soldiers. And on top of it the picture of Maria on the chapel looking down... One of the best diorama's I ever saw.
Koen Vos, I am so glad you noticed all those details that I worked so hard with. I wanted something more than just some guys loading a Panther tank. Among my about 80 Warrior and other resin figures these were chosen for this scene.
I am very happy for your kind words, this of course give me energy for upcoming projects:) Thank you very much! /Erik
Outstanding video and presentation. Beautiful work.
Thanks a lot man! It means very much to get this kind of comments:) /Erik
This is both beautiful artwork & gruesome reality of war. The best I’ve seen on RUclips.👍
Jason, thanks man! I feel some pressure for up coming projects so I don’t disappoint you:) cheers man! /Erik
You're killing me Smalls!!! Absolutely wonderful diorama. I haven't been able to even build a model for decades, due to Acromegaly. That doesn't stop me from enjoying other modelers and their work. Thank you for sharing with us!!!
kyokogodai Thanks you very much! /Erik
A lot of humanity in this scene ... a lot of conflicting emotions... Hate, sadness, courage, despair, fear, thoughtfulness ... The "monsters" of yesterday are anew simple Men, fragile prey, lost in the hell of war. No monsters, no heroes...Just Men...
Very impressive !
A work of admirable technique and accuracy. Work that goes beyond a simple technical feat.
Bravo l'artiste ! 👏
Kind words, thank you so much. You notice every single detail I spend a lot of time to show. Take care! /Erik
@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg I must admit, your work has moved me a lot .
Erik. (yes another one... a french one... lol) 😉
Amazing work! You are truly talented my friend. I’ve painted miniature wargame figures for over 40 years and consider myself a fair painter but my hat is off to you. Your imagination and attention to detail is on full display. Great job, wonderful art!
Jeff Brewer Thank you for those kind words:) /Erik
i only can agree with the others... this diorama is soo deep and filled with emotions... wow, i really can feel it !! great !!
SunwellOFFICIAL thanks a lot! Take care! /Erik
Excellent job, a very professional and detailed diorama.
Awsome job. I feel you captured the moment of despair/sadness and brutality perfectly. Powerful diorama.
Dale Cutter Thanks a lot man! /Erik
Wonderful work!
I like pictures WW2,tanks, armored soldiers, airplanes and Battlefield
Tanks buddy!

wow top !!!!!!! 👍👍👍
The attention to detail is astounding, i can feel your passion. Great work, thanks for sharing with us your beautiful art work.
Eric, I am really happy for your comment, thanks a lot. I do have a great passion for diorama:) Cheers Erik
Nice
Beautiful! Great figures, poses and positioning. Very interesting watching you expand, modify and rework the various parts, to get it the way you want it. Like all great dioramas, it tells a compelling story! Thanks
Thanks a lot! I am glad that you noticed all the work you mentioned. It was a “journey” that I did with this diorama. Thanks again! /Erik
RIP
Commander
Wow! Incredible detail and imagination. Very impressive.
Chuck, Thanks a lot! /Erik
Very powerful
Indeed the top class diorama ....well done and painted.
Thanks man! Take care. /Erik
Amazing work, just one thing, I don't think they were any Panther ausf G (looking at the mantlet on the Panther model you used) in Italy 1944. Most likely would have been a ausf A or even not a Panther, just a Panzer IV ausf G or H
Buzat Théo thanks man! I am sure you are right. This is the dilemma of making a diorama and tell the watchers a place and date....it’s tricky to get everything perfect if you want to use the parts you have in stock.
The Darius Panther late G I used have no zimmerit, and the building I used was Italian, so the only scenario I had was Italy late -44.
But of course we could imagine that this is France instead. /Erik
@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg no problem, still an amazing diorama with great details just a small thing that is not very important. Loved it ^^
masterpiece,dream,thank you.
Thanks a lot man!
Often when the gruesome aspects of war are depicted in a diorama they seem to be somewhat of a side show attraction placed there for shock value. The depiction of the German commander who succumbed to his wounds and the concern of his men convey the gritty reality of war and was done in the best of taste.
Mighty Lonesome That’s very kind words! I am glad you and many others like the scene. I have one more upcoming project that is including dead and wounded soldiers. I hope to present that build in a few months. Thanks again! /Erik

Wow ....
Extraordinary..!
Very well done with the whole scenery so “alive”
A lot of inspiring techniques and ways to make an eye catching diorama 👍🏼
Thanks a lot Niclas! I am glad you like the results, it was a long trip to get to the final result.

What is that tool you use to roll over the putty to make the stone floor?
Hi, it’s a texture rolling pin from Greenstuff:
www.greenstuffworld.com/en/22-textured-rolling-pins
Nice modelling i tend to build fer bit of tamiya 1:35 scale ww2👌
Thanks man! I wish you a good modeling:) /Erik
Thanks DIOWORK by Erik Westberg very kind sir..👍
What was that liquid that you used for the blood on the stones. It looks incredible!
Thanks! It’s just regular acrylic paint. I mixed 2-3 colors, don’t remember exactly, but I guess one of them was red...:) /Erik
@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg haha, thanks! I'll do some experimenting and see what I can do.
quelle mise en scène et réalisme pour ce diorama , bravo.

Félicitations ! C'est juste fantastique ce diorama qui dégage une grande émotion.. 👌 Bravo à toi.. 👍😁
Wittmann spirit Grazie! /Erik
It's really nice to see your talent. Though, would like to see the diorama larger.
Ken L Oh man I also want to build larger! But larger = more time = less diorama. I rather build 5 in the size like this than 2 bigger ones. I have so many diorama stories to tell you all! I hope you understand. /Erik
Great detail !! Great work
Keith Chowney Thanks man! /Erik

Molto realistico. La definirei un'opera d'arte.
Bravissimo, complimenti! 🇮🇹
Romualdo D'Amato Grazie! /Erik
Brilliant work.
Ian Redpath Thanks! /Erik
Is this guy the Bon Ross of dioramas? Has a perfect model or an arch and than smears some stuff over it only to make it look even better. Not to mention all the painstakingly accurate details. What a great job!
Thank you so much Joachim Winckler! /Erik
Nicely done. Most only want to show carnage in the form of a destroyed vehicle, shying away from the true human cost. I wonder how it would be received as an entry in a model expo/show.
Roger, well that’s an interesting question:) we will see in September at the show in Gothenburg Sweden. Cheers Erik
Hey, just found you here

Awesome job and awesome composition. Congratulations 👍🏻
Paulo Freire, Very kind of you, thanks! /Erik
Fantastic work Erik, very realistic. Would be good to see you do a dio of the D Day landing.
Thank you George Lyons! Oh man, I have two started dioramas showing scenarios from Omaha. One in 1/72 and one in 1/35. Some day I will finish them... Take care! /Erik
I noticed the storyline in the description, did you come up with that during the build or afterwards?
Liberty Prime. The most of the story came up during the build, but in the end I look at the finished build and imagined a story that could be a real one. /Erik
A little morbid, but great craftsmanship.
Daniel Kause. Thanks man! /Erik
Wow!!! Very well done. Definitely drives home the simple definition of WAR, which is just the word spelled backwards....... RAW. That took a turn at the end. Went from a nasty wound to truly gruesome event. Beautiful work. 👍👍 Should be an award winner. 😉
I’m starting on a Battle of Stalingrad, Russian sniper diorama for next years (September 2021) model show that’s planned to be somewhat as graphic as that. Mostly just little holes, but quite a bit of blood, depending upon the point of impact (body & limb shots produce lots, but head shots are just a spray but no sizable “puddle” (done my research, talked to a few Marine snipers)).
Thanks a lot man! It was interesting building this diorama, and fun to figuring everything out as it went on. I really hope you enjoy doing your sniper diorama! Cheers Erik
DIOWORK by Erik Westberg . Oh yeah. I’m sure it’s going to be lots of fun and filled with plenty of cursing in frustration. I’ll likely video it and post it to my channel as I intended it to basically be a form of advertising as well as a tip/trick sharing for other modelers. Also to receive some constructive criticism. 🤓😉
Work of art ! The level of details and degree of authencity is atonishing !
Vincent, Thanks a lot! /Erik
7 dislikes... Who would dislike this this amazing work?
deadmike naf, there will always be dislikes, even more today. Sorry for that. I am glad you like it. /Erik
I think I enjoy watching this more than a TV series. There's more action too!
