      The 6V92 was my favorite diesel of the bunch. I learned to drive a car by timing the shifts with those. Here's to Muni Heritage Weekend! Long live 4574 and 9120!

      The engines of the new buses aren't loud? I can't even have a conversation with someone without raising my voice on newer buses and it doesn't help if the A/C is on full blast too. Plus they're gas guzzlers, especially with that EPA stuff used in those engines, a bus from 1970s gets better fuel mileage then a bus built today and most of the buses that appear in this video are from the 1980s and early 90s. Those older buses did have wheelchair lifts and kneeling, so they were accessible for disabled people.

      @@evanstonbalce9588 I'd rather have functioning buses, than care about air quality. Reducing performance, endurance, and longevity, for instead worrying about carbon emissions just because sounds good on paper should NEVER be a substitute for practicality.
      I think "improving air quality" is just an excuse that auto manufacturers like to use to extract more money from the public when they buy their products, and use that money to bribe politicians that can pass new and innovative legislation that carves this country among themselves. Going green means go broke.
      Why do you think green energy is more expensive and maintenance heavier than diesel.

    samuel2500 Reply to your comment: Muni has always kept 1 MAN SG-310-18-3A bus. It is SF Muni 6099. It still exists and I have seen it in person many times. They even got it running, but it stalls on the second gear. 6020 got bought by someone and is in Neveda. 6090 got sold on ebay and is now seen at the Burning Man.

      @jessealvarez779 6 лет назад +3

      The trolley coaches were always emissions free. The hybrids of today still produce omissions, just not to the extent that the fleet did back then. I'll say that I'm here because of the memories attributed to these buses, not their carbon footprint. They're around 30 years old, give or take.

    The Flyer D901 (Not D902 as many are calling it) have Allison HT-740 transmission. The MANs use MAN engines and Renk Doromat transmissions. With that said everything else you said was correct.

    • @369Bandido
      @369Bandido 7 лет назад +5

      Caesar St. John no 902s were muni and CTA twins by production order specs. Had t drive transmissions and the exhaust stack with a shroud around it. They were special made for those two cities. A.c.transit had 901s from 79 to 83. 79/80 was a Cummins 903 with a v730. Later models were a 6v92 and v730. The 902s had ht740s for climbing hills.

    The M.A.N. Busses were a Joke! Word was you had to be far away cause the Articulateds would Swing Out & Hit Something Like a Lamppost, Bus Shelter, or Vehicle, here in L.A. the the Old RTD (Now Metro) Recieved 30 M.A.N's (9200-9229), the 3 Door Models in the Late Summer of 78 & Operated them till the Summer of 90 right after the Blue Line Light Rail Opened Up, they were Assigned to the Busy Wilshire Bl. Network, Old Lines 83, Later 20, 21, 22, 320, 322 (now just 20 & 720 Rapid), & the Old #91, Later #1 (Retired, that Ran from Downtown L.A. to Century City Via Sunset, Hollywood Bl, Fairfax & Santa Monica Bl.).
    The M.A.N.'s would Swing Out & Sometimes Hit Streetlights, Took Out a Bus Shelter One Time, & I was on the Old 83 Bus on Wilshire when an M.A.N. Artic Sheared Off a Mirror on a Motor Home Parked in Front of the Ritzy Beverly Wilshire & the Operator Kept Going.
    In 1983 RTD Bought Golden Gates 10 Articulated M.A.N.'s, Single Rear Door & Clear Windows (9250-9259), & Also Hit Objects along the Two RTD Lines at the Time!
    I don't know what kind of Problems Muni had with its M.A.N.'s, if they Swung Out & Hit Objects & Vehicles in SF, it was a Nice Articulated but Bad Engineering.
    New Flyer Doesn't have that Problem with its Articulateds, nor did NABI with its Articulateds in which L.A. Metro has over 350 Still in its Fleet (Now Folded in to New Flyer), & I can't Speak for Nova Bus Articulateds.

    • @enolamsamoht
      @enolamsamoht 2 года назад +1

      No SF Muni had no problem with our M.A.N infact if the engine's didn't over heat they could have lasted up until early 2004 like the Flyer D902's did.

    • @munimathbypeterfelton6251
      @munimathbypeterfelton6251 2 года назад

      Ironically, based on your comment, Muni installed bright yellow stickers on the rears of all its New Flyer E60 articulated electric trolleybuses stating "CAUTION: THIS VEHICLE MAKES WIDE TURNS", and showing a diagram of an articulated bus doing just that. But Muni didn't stick those stickers on any other articulated bus fleet from before or after the E60s operated.
