  • This is a TV Series reaction to my first time watching HBO's The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 6 called Kin. It was so lovely to see Jackson, Wyoming and the Joel and Tommy reunion. This was a pretty relaxing and happy episode coming off of Episode 5 Endure and Survive, so I was glad for that. Overall, a solid episode. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review (both without spoilers and with) and thank you so much for watching!

Graham Greene and Elaine Miles were spectacular as Marlon and Florence! They are so endearing. I hope we see them again in the future. Pedro's and Bella's performance in this episode, OMG, SO AMAZING! Joel's panic attacks were spot on (at least for me because I do have them. I have to take medication for it). The ringing in the ears, zoning out, shortness of breath. Nailed it.

Graham Greene (a prolific Canadian native actor) is always good. Elaine Miles was one of the stars of the '90s show Northern Exposure, a show which Greene guested in five or six times as her character's cousin (I think). Sadly there's no current streaming home for Northern Exposure (in the US anyway). Greene's probably best known for Dances With Wolves but I really liked him in Thunderheart as well.

Joel's panic attacks are pretty accurate. Not exactly like the ones I get (I hyperventilate when the panic kicks in) but definitely represent the "textbook" symptoms.
I found it funny that in your thoughts on the episode, you mentioned Joel trying to get time just for family, but not asking Ellie to leave the table because she's family. Despite me watching the show itself, and several reactors reacting to it, that thought never crossed my mind. The idea that it was a significant moment didn't even occur to me. I'm oblivious sometimes.
I can't blame you for pointing out places you know in these reactions. I won't say anything specific in case you watch it, but parts of A Quiet Place 2 were filmed less than 3 blocks away from my house. And it was really cool to see it on screen since I know it so well.
Another great reaction! I hope the rest of the week treats you well! 😄✌

I loved this episode! Everything you said: the sights, the bonding time, going all the places, all the things. My biggest hangup was on how Ellie doesn’t know how to shoot game and dress it. It’s been three months of traveling in winter and they have clearly bonded a bit more. Idk I just kind of thought if she was less like cargo and more like family that would have happened even just out of boredom. But perhaps Joel wasn’t truly ready to face that transition in his mind until Jackson. Amazing monologue from Joel! So much to unpack. Great reaction!

I really enjoy the "Behind The Scenes" feel to your commentary, giving us context to where they film various scenes. When television and movies are filmed in San Francisco or Los Angeles (two places I have lived in or near), I like to point out where things are when I recognize them (the television show Alias used a LOT of shots from the UCLA campus, for example), although Hollywood tends to really focus on either the Golden Gate Bridge or Lombard Street as the only things that exist in San Francisco.

As always, thank you for the watch.
So... I have a question: I'm aware of most of the story, just from watching other folks' reactions and comments. I haven't played the games (and I likely won't, because I'm terrible at video games. My son gives me a hard time about it... but I'm absolutely pathetic and useless.) That said... would I benefit from watching videos on the cut scenes or a play-though? I haven't watched any of those, and hadn't planned on it. But, I've heard enough comments (including yours) to make me wonder if it might not be worthwhile. I welcome your thoughts on the matter.
About seeing places you've been in productions, that's pretty cool. And, it's nice that your college was in a cool production. "That's my school!" My college was in one movie (which wasn't any good... at all) but, it was neat to see it on the big screen. And, because my best friend was one of the extras, and I was in college theater productions with him, that puts me 3 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon! Yay! (My friend was in that movie, which also had our theater teacher's mom in it, and she was in My Dog Skip with Kevin Bacon. So... yeah! Woo Hoo!) Thank you, again, for the watch. I know what's coming in Episode 7. I'm looking forward to experiencing it with you. Have a nice week. Enjoy spring in Alberta! (You can't argue with the view!)

Like every episode so far just great.
As far as I know, the Divacup was launched in 2003. So it's just in time for the series. Lucky. 😁
The reason why Joel doesn't teach Ellie much or let her do it things is that she wouldn't be cargo anymore. Such things create a mutual connection that Joel did not want until then. He doesn't want to give her the option to take care of him. Just like Sarah did back then. I mean she did the housekeeping, made sure he wore his shirt the right way around ect. In this episode, however, he unconsciously refers to her as family during dinner, because she is allowed to stay at the table while he expects Maria to leave. Fortunately, after the quarrel between the two, everything changed.
The dog here has noticed that something is wrong with Ellie, but he has also noticed that there is no danger from her. Something Fedra's detectors can't detect. They only know black (red) and white (green), just like Fedra is. And of course, Ellie is infected, otherwise the detector would not have shown red. Who knows how many immunes have actually died from such a scanner. Dogs are the better scanners.
Because of Joel's injury. I think that's done far more realistically here than in the game. I mean falling off the second floor, being impaled and then endless running to the horse without bleeding out. Piedro leaning on Bella, would certainly look funny with the difference in size. 😁
You need extreme self-control to leave something stuck in your body that you do not want to have there and does not belong there. The head must remain clear and you must be aware of what is happening to you. Among other things, you first have to be aware that you are in a state of shock.
Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust."
Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series. Maria knows people and she is no bullshit.
Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon."
This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his. But he does not see this so clearly at the time and still tries to prevent the inevitable.
Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was "STILL gross". I think that was a callback to Ellie's flashback DLC.
Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will properly get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback.
This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. we met Dina (Ellie yelled at her as she dined), properly Jessie (cinema), Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheeps, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic.
The campfire scene was not in the game, but was originally supposed to be included. So far, only a concept art was left in the bonus material of the game. I think the scene would have been important in the game because it underlines once again that both Marlene and Joel are absolutly sure that it is possible to produce a cure.

The amount of misunderstanding about Communism is mindblowing. The USA started with communism which failed in communities much like this (no electricity) and then thrived when people actually owned the fruits of their labor instead of having some authoritarian council deciding who gets what. Stop "learning" from the wrong people and actually look into the topic, any honest research will leave anyone honest an advocate for capitalism, not communism.
