None of my friends (girls in their 20s from Russia) has a dream of getting married and having children. All of them are thinking about their career and making money, so, as Lera said, it’s not about everyone. From my point of view, it’s not that common like it was 10-20 years ago. And things about men becoming more manly after military service … that’s also more about people in their 40s and older I think. Thank you for the video!
In Germany I think it's common to live with your parents in your 20s, but in your 30s it could be more similar to Russia that you might be considered to be a loser if you still live with them. Unless there is a good reason, like for example health reasons (either of your parents or you). Or you could live in the same house, but have like separate apartments or areas. I think this whole topic plays into the aspect of relationships though. Since it's also common here to live with your partner living with your parents is often connected to being single and being that over such a long time and living with your parents is looked down onto.
A couple of decades ago, there were a lot of trash cans on streets in Korea. However, after the implementation of waste separation-disposal policy, the city or local administrations began removing trash cans from the streets. It's For Waste Recycling.
Went to Russia this July, and I would said the biggest culture shock is that how many soldiers are on the street and the metro system. In the metro system, you only need to pay once when you enter, and you can just exit when you get off, as all the stations are at the same pricing!
The government tries to have more and more control 😢 so the number of soldiers around Moscow has drastically increased in the past several years. The public transport is truly convenient though, that’s true ❤
I can’t agree with the dating description. It may be true for some people but it’s definitely not a cultural norm. You can have a couple of dates with a person and then officially call it a relationship. I don’t personally know people who would wait several months for that. Only maybe in cases when you were friends for a long time but then decided to start dating.
Oh and the desire to get married. I know that there was a disclaimer that not all women are like that but it still sounded like the majority of women dream about marrying and never having a job. In the big cities it’s not the case, maybe there are some women like that but I’ve met only one girl who dreamed to get married in my whole life (27 years). All of the women I know are focused on career in the first place. Not sure how common this mindset is in small towns though.
What a nice video, especially because most of the things that Lera told in this video are true, but some things change of course due to media, etc. I'm also from Russia and the part about most girls having a dream of marriage etc is true, but these days I mostly meet and see girls who want to have a nice career or just to live their life without thinking about having their own family. And, unfortunatelly, eventhough young people (mostly 20-23 yo who I know) don't really think that men should serve in the military to appear as a man in the first people, but I do know some people who think like that. And it's mostly about not becoming a man, but becoming mature from what I can tell, however, even friends who served in the military didn't become that mature, some even become more stupid than they were. And the part about military and studying, you can get a bachelor degree and graduate when you're 22-23, then serve in the military since you don't really have a choice, or you can continue studying and get a master's degree (also 2 years), so you'll graduate when you're 24-25 yo, and you can continue studying to become a kandidat nauk (candidate of science) as your postgraduate degree (2-4 years) that can let you legally opportunity not to serve in the military. But sometimes people prefer to serve for a year and then forget about it for a long time, but as for me, I've decided to keep studying in order to live a happy life and not to lose my time on something I don't like xd And as always, thank you for you videos, Dave!!!
Something about her tone/style of communication came across bit judgey. And someone who specialized in Korean studies and lived there for many years, she ought to know the cultural aspect why Korean kids live w their parents into 30s. And also why there’s lack of trash bins on streets.
I’m currently taking a Russian cultures class and my favourite thing about it is learning all about the different groups of people living together in the country. Every single group has such amazing culture and it’s great to see how many of them can still continue to practice them.

*Right-wing influencers were duped to work for covert Russian operation, US says* By ALAN SUDERMAN and ALI SWENSON Updated 2:12 PM EDT, September 5, 2024 NEW YORK (AP) - They have millions of followers online. ...And they worked unknowingly for a company that was a front for a Russian influence operation, U.S. prosecutors say. An indictment filed Wednesday alleges a media company...was secretly funded by Russian state media employees to churn out English-language videos that were “often consistent” with the Kremlin’s “interest in amplifying U.S. domestic divisions in order to weaken U.S. opposition” to Russian interests, like its war in Ukraine. *DOJ alleges Russia funded US media company linked to right-wing social media stars* By Zachary Cohen, Donie O'Sullivan, Evan Perez, Sean Lyngaas and Majlie de Puy Kamp, CNN Updated 11:08 PM EDT, Thu September 5, 2024 RUclips has removed Tenet Media’s channel and others associated with Chen, a RUclips spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. “Following an indictment from the US Department of Justice and after careful review, we are terminating the Tenet Media channel and four channels operated by its owner Lauren Chen as part of our ongoing efforts to combat coordinated influence operations,” the statement said. The company’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, according to RUclips.
I think Europe is kinda split in two, the western and eastern side. The more east you go the more Russian values and such you'll find, the more west you go the more, uh American? it is. So saying Europe as a whole pretty much never works out when you're talking about a social norm or smt.
So loved watching your videos Dave, but now thank you for spreading the word about the terrorist country. Who right now (soon 2 years since the full-scale invasion and almost 10 years of war) is killing peaceful civilians, committing genocide of my people, had a better opinion of you. Bye
Sorry, but this is a girl who has been living in Korea for almost a decade and was comparing her life in Russia to the one she experiences now in Korea. As well as that, she majored in Korean studies. It's not so much about the Russian government more than somebody who has come from a specific country. I'm sad to see you go, but I do hope you understand I've had many guests from many countries and have been criticized for including Chinese, Japanese, Germans, talking about America in a certain light..I've lost a sponsor because I talked about Taiwan, I've been insulted by other southeast Asian countries for having guests from Indonesia or Malaysia..I've got it all. Everybody is born where they are born and I don't think it's fair to exclude a girl who has been living a productive life in Korea a chat because of where she was born. I really hate to see you go, but I do hope you understand that I've had people leave for similar reasons.

So touching!!

*Right-wing influencers were duped to work for covert Russian operation, US says*

NEW YORK (AP) - They have millions of followers online. ...And they worked unknowingly for a company that was a front for a Russian influence operation, U.S. prosecutors say.

RUclips has removed Tenet Media’s channel and others associated with Chen, a RUclips spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.
The more east you go the more Russian values and such you'll find, the more west you go the more, uh American? it is. So saying Europe as a whole pretty much never works out when you're talking about a social norm or smt.
в поисках русского комента 😅
So loved watching your videos Dave, but now thank you for spreading the word about the terrorist country. Who right now (soon 2 years since the full-scale invasion and almost 10 years of war) is killing peaceful civilians, committing genocide of my people, had a better opinion of you. Bye
Bye-bye piggy
I'd be offended if I understood the sentence.. ;/
You are the only person making it political of something irrelevant.
This is a Korean content, talking to Korean audience on the cultural differences.

to debunk hl0984's comment --
*FALSE: “This is a Korean content, talking to Korean audience”*
This video's title and subtitles are in English, which target a larger English-speaking audience, and not just Koreans.
*FALSE: “You are the only person”*
Multiple people wrote comments here to support victims of crimes by Russian military (including some comments that have been deleted, so maybe this comment will be deleted as well), and multiple people also liked those comments.

“how do you feel to collaborate with the nation that causes genocide? the nation that has no shame, no regrets of invasion in another peaceful country, the murderers and rapists of Ukrainians. I'm so done with you and your channel, shame on you and that girl should go back to her terrorist state”
