They were considering a C-section? You could tell when they put her on the table that her stomach was completely flat, and that there was no baby in there.
I hate to be the one to deliver this heartbreaking news. But Subis' baby only lived for a few days after the filming of this video. But Subis' sister Emma who did her very best to take care of her nephew in the limited time she had with him. Emma gave birth to a baby girl! Who came into the world very healthy and continues to thrive with her mum and Auntie Subis!
Thank You for the update. It took a great amount of understanding for her sister to respond in that way. What were her sisters motivation ? We won't ever know. But if she would have acted as most feel animals do, considering her sisters health both mom and son could have passed quickly. A huge look at what is going on in the minds and the emotional life of the Orangutans.
Really-- a pregnant mom adopting her sisters baby upon finding it is going to be compared to the odds of winning a lottery? Dog and cat moms who are pregnant or have recently given birth will often adopt even babies cross-species. So a pregnant orangutan adopting another's baby orangutan from the same family is the least surprising thing ever-- probably fairly common in the wild.
I thought the same thing. Why would she think its so rare when there's countless cases of all sorts of animals doing way crazier things due to powerful maternal instincts.
I was thinking about how stupid and annoying she sounded too. She either has no clue about animals or she thinks we are idiots. Either way I will not be watching these stupid people anymore with them stretching out the story just to make money from more videos. Whoever is running this channel and scripting it sucks.
They aren't saying fostering a baby orangutan is a miracle. They said compared to everything that could have happened. There was no guarantee that this is what was going to happen.
I highly doubt that in the wild, female orangutans commonly asks their sisters to look after their newborn baby, while they are in the hospital or that a full term pregnant orangutan would agree to look after her sister's baby, knowing that she, herself, could be giving birth at any moment. Being in the wild, where they have to forage for and compete for food is totally different than being in a zoo and having all the food they want handed to them, along with any medical treatment they need. It lowers the amount of stress they would usually have and along with the extra time that they have from not having to look for food, frees them up to be more social and build stronger bonds. Since, in the wild, adult females don't live in such close proximity to one another and spend very minimal time together, if one did get sick and the infection was bad enough that she couldn't care for her baby, the baby would most likely die. I read an update, that said that the baby didn't live too long after filming so maybe Subis knew that the baby was sick. Sometimes, they will abandon a sick baby in the wild, so the mother can try again sooner.
In the wild, orangutans don't give birth to babies like humans. They raise ONE baby for almost 8 years. I learned that Subis has a toddler. I am not surprised her second baby has died and Subis got a complicated pregnancy because I believe it is unnatural that this happened to her. Maybe the vets of this zoo should learn from the sanctuaries in Malaysia and Indonesia who know more about how orangutans behave.
Emma wouldn't be able to take care of Subi's baby either because she would have her own baby. In one of the orangutan sanctuaries, an orangutan gave birth to twins but she abandoned one of them because it is unnatural for this species to take care of one baby for several years. It is just not done. Poor baby. It was not meant to be because it is an unnatural phenomenon.
I know I am late to the party, but I am not judging Chester Zoo, well, maybe a little. How long did it take them to go back and look on cameras? Also, they had an orangutan that was pregnant and gave birth and they never knew it was pregnant. I am just wondering if they are doing EVERYTHING possible to care for these animals properly. I know mistakes happen, but this sounds like two too many in the past few years.
I’ve watched a lot of their videos and the Chester zoo is definitely not the best zoo out there. In some of their videos they say completely inaccurate statements (ie they claim cheetahs are big cats). They also don’t do a great job at insuring the animals safety when introducing them, and they don’t seem to properly quarantine animals.
Sorry but after what happened to baby Tripa, and the fact they let him continue to be underdeveloped and had multiple health problems.... after I found out they put him down, IVE NEVER ONCE BEEN MORE DISGUSTED IN MY LIFE!!!! THEY ARE A JOKE!!!! I WILL NEVER EVER FORGIVE THIS ONE🤬🤬🤬🤬
Animals have been known to abandoned their young for all kinds of reasons. It's possible that Zubis didn't feel right after birth ( because she still had a retained uterus and infection) that she gave her baby to her closest sibling.
Since Orangutans are known to be great moms and Emma was pregnant herself and had the milk to nurse Subis baby I don't wonder at all! Emma sensed that Subis was sick.. So she stepped in! Orangutans are incredibly smart, sweet and sensitive, I love them! ❤️
It just amazes me that nobody knows anything there At that zoo. Unexpected pregnancies, Orangutan's escaping. And now a birth that they don't even know that happened.
It’s pretty awful. The first video from them I came across was about the surprise pregnancy (as in no clue until it was born) from a mom who still had a 2 or 3 year old. It broke my heart because I knew what was going to happen to the toddler. Other zoos avoid this by putting the animals on birth control. This is a must because even when females aren’t seeking a mate because they know it’s not time considering that the males will often give her no choice. I’ve seen moms with tiny infants in their arms being forced to copulate so it’s not possible they aren’t aware of these very common pitfalls of captivity. If they’re truly that ignorant that’s as much of a problem as just being lazy and irresponsible which would be the only other explanation. The worst part was the attitude of the staff. They expressed minimal regret and minimal concern for the newly abandoned little one. It was just like “oh well. She’ll just learn to be her own little orangutan sooner.” Willfully ignoring the emotional damage this would do and never thinking about subsequent issues like her need for attention leading to an early teen pregnancy, trouble being a mother herself, etc. I don’t know much about how they’re set up but it seems like the high rate of pregnancy has led them to seeing these babies as somewhat disposable and that’s horrible .
They try to intervene as little as possible, Subis and Emma where hand-reared after their mother refused to care for them. So they made the decision that when Subis and Emma have their baby they where going to break that cycle
It’s motherly instinct not high level of thinking. Just when you see a lion trying to take of a baboon, or a macaque trying to take a human baby MOTHERLY INSTINCT and the fact that baby orangutans are the cutest in the world!!!
The mere fact that these gorillas are in an unnatural environment means that nature is being interfered with. They should have helped this baby out to make sure that it was being fed properly. The pregnant sister was either not producing enough milk or none at all.
It!s difficult to say this in a way that won’t cause offense, but WTF is wrong with the keepers at this zoo? My dog is REALLY smart…maybe we could get him a job there.
What's the current situation with Zubis and Emma? Do they each have their own babies now? Could you please give us an update on the missing baby?Thank You.
@@NatureBites When is Emma due? Don't you think that mother and baby should be isolated together to bond before it is too late and you have to bottle feed this baby ? I doubt Emma is going to feed both once hers comes and this Mother won't take hers to raise.

It is so annoying when stories like this are broken into two parts for no obvious reason except to get more likes and views.

It is highly unusual because the human didn’t think the monkey know what is best to do. Silly human.
Same thing with my horse. Tested 3 times saying she was prego and a dr went inside and reached the baby, but there was none
She probably took over the care of the baby because the mother was so sick.
