I totally agree with you that some books take the black struggle a lil too much sometimes. But I felt in this book it was definitely needed and set a right tone. Maybe that's me because I'm from the south and I know exactly what she was going for. It's not something makes the character not happy to me but that's all just my opinion 😊 I get why some people may not care for it.
Totally agree! I didnt resonate with the perspective that Black characters should just “be happy.” If i read a book about a white character that was happy all the time I’d think it was poor writing and unrealistic.
I mean “be happy” in that I don’t want the black struggle to overtake the entire story. I did end up absolutely loving the book! For white characters in books they aren’t typically being attacked racially so they are happier characters and are able to just exist. I want that for black characters too, but that might just be personal preference.
@@KyrahStewart I definitely agree and for most of the books I read I totally agree with you! I definitely dont see the need for it to be in every single book with black characters. Because honestly day to day I'm just out here living life as a black woman lol without any of that so it's easier to relate when the characters are just living. I only read books from black authors this month and there was a overwhelming amount of the black struggle in some of the books so I definitely understand your perspective 😃
I was just looking at my screen time and thought I need to do something else with my time. Love this idea !! And thanks for making me add more books to the cart 😅😅
It's the licking of the stanley and laying out on the floor reading for me! Lol! Tracy Deonn has won me over too! I believe that I'll buy her books! I agree with some of the parts that you mentioned about the book!

My husband has the Wool/Silo book series and has been trying to get me to read it for years😅 We really enjoyed the tv series of it so that might be my next book read😊
You excepted my Goodreads friends request today…I was so happy. I read First Lie Wins and now The Frozen River now. Really enjoying it. I’m on my 13th book now. Finished The Teacher by Freida McFadden as well !!
It’s cool how we see different books as trending or not. I mean, I see Wool talked about a lot when watching booktubers that are high fantasy/Sci fi/ Dystopian readers.
Legendborn as a series is definitely interested in racism and Blackness, I mean it’s set in the southern United States at a predominantly white institution. Most Black people who go away to predominantly white colleges have to contend with what it means to be in that space as a Black person so….it’s def not about a fantasy land where racism doesn’t exist, it’s more of a magical realism series engaging with actual history & cultural issues
I love these creative concepts you have. Really keeps the videos interesting but I do also love a casual barns trip❤️
