Here's the story about how I became a Bon Jovi fan. I'm 53 years old so I've been around a while. I remember back in the day hearing runaway and really liking it but never really went out to get the album. I went to seaside heights New Jersey on the boardwalk in the summer of 1985. They used to have this game where you can put a quarter on a number and they would spin this wheel and then you can pick an LP which is an album or a cassette tape of any album that they have there. So I end up winning and I seen Bon Jovi 7800 degrees Fahrenheit. I got the LP and when I got home I absolutely loved it!!
Kudos to Shifty for taking the time to redo it, with full respect to the guest, respecting his privacy and staying quiet patiently till he could finally do it - thank you!
WOW! I did not want this interview to end. He looks and sounds amazing. I’m so happy for him. I have to say this. Without Richie and hearing John’s voice now , the band will be put out to pasture. Only Richie can save the next and final tour. It was never the same to begin with but merely survived. Good luck Richie
What an AWESOME episode! Richie seems like such a great, down-to-earth guy. He's from my home state and I always hoped to run into him one day. Great job Shifty

Still remember the first Bon Jovi Show I watched, lisbon 2011, went because my uncle needed company, never heard of the band before, but as soon I went and witneess Richie musicality was in completely sold afterwards. Bonjovi gain another fan that night because of Sambora genious
Richie seems to be in a much better place here. Great to see! He is one of my favorites from the 80’s. My band played a lot of their songs in the late 80’s when in high school. Still love the old Bon Jovi stuff. Much respect to Richie!
Richie Sambora is the one player that pushed me to pick up a guitar. Oh c'mon, says who? He is #2 guy in Bon Jovi. The band is Jon's and everyone is aware of that. Richie made his millions for the songs and for the liver performances. What else should he have received that he has not? Not everyone can be the #1 person and that's ok
He has wasted tombstone eyes and speech. Sad what hardcore drugs, booze and age does to a man. Tommy lee, vince and Ace all have those wasted junkie eyes. Brains are fried.
Sambora is one of the greatest guitar player of all time. His style is unique. Give to Bon Jovi life and sound. His a little bit underrated, but He's the best
Please Richie!! You need to leave your legacy to new generation! Someone please give him a channel, school or teaching engagements to leave his genius gift for the centuries to come!! Love you Richie! God bless you!
I remember seeing a documentary in the early 90s in which Richie was playing a Strat through one loud amp in a disused huge block of apartments. I've never been able to find it since but it stuck with me enough to know that it got me hooked on guitar for the next thirty years! 😅 Nobody is creating riffs and solos nowadays. The music industry can push the Tim Henson's (no disprespect to him at all - very skilled player) of this world all they want but how many people pick up and stick with guitar because of him? Sambora had killer riffs and solos that were memorable and, more importantly, playable. Great interview! 🙏
I think you are remembering a Fender Stratocaster documentary called "Curves Contours and Body Horns" and you can find the video on youtube. Richie playing is around 44 minutes in.
I saw Bon Jovi on that Ratt tour mentioned. Still one of the top 10 shows I’ve seen. Bon Jovi was incredible! Immediate fan. Ratt was pretty amazing too. What a time!
Thank you Chris. If you ever have Richie Sambora on again, I would love to hear you guys dissect his Dry Country solo from Wembley 1995. Such a fantastic solo from a super guitar player, singer, and songwriter. Love all his solo work.
Now I've seen it all, Richie jamming in his mom's basement! So cool! You know, the Internet makes the world so small. Richie seems to be really healthy and his old rockin' self! Love it! Would love to see him live, can't wait actually! 🤟👍🙏❤

Richie is the reason I play guitar. Still remember that One Last Wild Night concert on TV and me thinking "WTF is this guy doing". Could spend hours watching interviews like this one.
Such a rad show! My god is this just the truth, it’s funny now that I’m an old dude and whatnot I give a shit about action and what pick up this and that but when I was playing I used the same black SG that I purchased from an ex girlfriend and I’ve tried to remember what I did for setting up this and that and I just didn’t worry about that stuff. I remember once another guy from a different band, I knew the guy, actually played for his band while they were looking for a rhythm guy, I remember him saying oh wow a SG from the 70s and he started inspecting it, he asked oh yeah that’s right you like high action. Oh I do? And gear was whatever back line the house was using, Marshall or fender and I had one giant green big muff box I still have to this day. It was about the songs and writing and not much at all about gear and now in my life I ask myself why I can’t write a decent song anymore but it’s because shit is backwards now, I care about the guitar and amp, the setup, how it “sounds” and I noodle adjust, noodle tune, noodle, hang up guitar. My take away from this episode is, I need to get back to creating music and writing again and worry less about the gear side of things.
I could listen to Richie tell stories about recording all day long. I'd LOVE to hear him talk about Stranger in this Town recording process, the mix and reverb on that album is SO well done. Is it weird to have a favorite reverb sound? Cuz Stranger is mine lol
Shifty that was one of the BEST interviews you've ever done, Richie is an Absolute Sweetheart and a True Musician , absolute ton of fun watching this , Thank You ! J... Toronto
Glad to see Richie is finally speaking to the people! He's the heart and soul of Bon Jovi the band not the F street band Jon has been leading for the last decade. Very humble to be teaching his licks. Still love to this day 7800F and even the 1st album - have loved all those great solos for decades. Love them all. What a treat to hear Richie play Only Lonely. This is one of the best guitar players of his generation. Hope I get to see him live solo - not within a band reunion. Could hear all his solo songs/ covers... he doesn't need to play bad medicine ever again! His catalog is great. HIs two first solo alums are five stars.
You can't possibly comprehend how long i've wanted to see that Bad Medicine riff up close and slow. (It always reminded me of that Money For Nothing riff.) Thank you SO much for that!
Richie looks much happier now! I'm glad he's in a good place. "Only Lonely" I was not expecting. It's not my favorite Bon Jovi album, but there are some bangers on '7800° Fahrenheit'!

Hey Ritchie we’re European and we go back home for whatever reason when our parents are alone. Me I’m a divorced father and my dad is passed and my older brother too at 43 so my mother is 81 and still cutting the grass and shoveling the driveway here in Toronto so when my son moved out with his girlfriend I had to go back home period! It changed my mother’s life because she would cry every night on the phone to me! So I’m with you go take care of your beautiful mother!! And I seen you in Toronto cne grandstand in 89 I think? But u and that Kramer with the stars is legendary!! By the way when I had long hair many times I got told that I look like Ritchie! But hey I live on a part of town where it’s exactly like jersey if u get my meaning! Anyway ur great
Great interview! Richie is such a rippin' player. Great vibrato and feel. Hope you can get Warren DeMartini on the show, Shifty! Please make that happen. Always wanted to see more guitar-centric interviews from him. One of the tastiest players to ever come out of the 80s.

Richie made Bonjovi super cool!

Completely... his voice and song writing made them a proper group... my fav album is These Days... seems like Jon let him get on and play in that 1

Great, thanks for version 2! Love Jovi, Love Richie. His new songs are great. Legendary is catchy but shallow. They need their soul back 🙏🏻
God bless richie samboras mother and the rest of you all
Richie a cool dude, his vibe a real joy.
Great interview. Richie is a soulful & melodic player who fit perfectly into the band. Great singing voice too.
Anyway ur great
I watched the Crush Tour dvd so much as a kid, Richie is a legend
Great interview! Richie is such a rippin' player. Great vibrato and feel. Hope you can get Warren DeMartini on the show, Shifty! Please make that happen. Always wanted to see more guitar-centric interviews from him. One of the tastiest players to ever come out of the 80s.
