    This is the start of my new tractor playlist. I just purchased this Yanmar YT347 and I'm going to start off by talking about the transmission that is very unique to this tractor. I also want to mention that this is the only compact tractor that I know of that doesn't require diesel exhaust fluid because of how clean this engine runs. I am not endorsed by Yanmar and I purchased this tractor from our local Yanmar dealer in North Carolina.

    I don't run my tractor a whole lot so I bought an old one. I wanted a Yanmar 2210D because of the 4WD and its reputation. The 2210 came out in the 70's but the transmission is very capable. If your mowing then hydro is going to be easiest. If you want to work gears are really nice when you need to put power to the ground. My transmission has a gear selected that is operated with a manual clutch. Then you have another shifter that allows you to shift 3 forward, neutral, and reverse without a clutch. I think tractors of this design are the best of both worlds. Yanmar has been making user friendly transmissions for decades. If I were a frequent tractor user I wouldn't hesitate to buy one like Engineer775.

    My Yanmar 424 doesn't require DEF either. It's a smaller HP tractor but I love it. John Deere has been using the Yanmar engines in their smaller tractors for years because it's a proven engine. I couldn't see a reason to spend more on the green paint.

    • @engineer775
      @engineer775  6 лет назад

      exactly. I am curious if John Deere is requiring DEF even thought it is a yanmar. Maybe Yanmar is keeping the better engines to themselves?

    • @offgridnorthwest

      Another cool thing about Yanmar is that they are assembled in Georgia, so while it is a "foreign" tractor, it is put together in American with American workers. I have also had fantastic support from my Yanmar dealer. For small farm/hobbyist I can't recommend these smaller Yanmar tractors enough. Thanks for posting the video on the larger YT347. I may upgrade to the larger tractor someday, but for now I am loving my little 424.

    This was my first choice tractor until I got down to the payments. The transmission had me wanting one really bad, but I settled for a bare bones mx5200 Kubota for a lot less money. I liked hearing you talk about this one.

      Got one of these klunkers too. It was cheep (41,000$) for tractor, loader,and backhoe ;; with gear drive chutchy-shuttle-shift. Sometimes(rarely) my left leg shure gets a workout. It loads allright, doesen't hardly burn any fuel, quiet as a mouse, digs deep with back-hoe and powerfully but slow as molasses. Have a Massey-Ferguson 1736 hydralic power shuttle shift with a 12×12 trany also. It is fast, smooth, quiet and luxurious ,but with no back-hoe. It is everything the kubogy is not ,and the paint job is still BRIGHT red , not that white-wash pinky-yellow-chalk that kubogys are famous for. Maybe a snazzy new Yanmar with the "deluxe" trany will be next.

    I have a Massy Fergusson backhoe that uses a manual transmission but instead of a clutch it uses a lockup torque converter. works very similar to this, but no hydrostat. (I guess a torque converter is kind of a hydrostat)

    This rig is a real humdinger with it's highly advanved transmission. All those "wan-a-be, el-chepo hydro-slack-o-matics" owner-loaners just dont have a clue what they are missing. Would never own a new hydro-static ;; way too primitive, cheep to build, expensive to maintain, always howling, gready with the fuel,and always with a 22.5% power loss throughout. Have a kubogy mx5200 shuttle shift tlb== just OK, a M-F 1736 power-shuttle t&l and it is great. Your Yanmar seams fantastic! Thanks for the fine explanation of this unit and the state of art transmission. After all ,haveing a tractor or two is ALL about it's TRANSMISSION - of power.

  • @bert26a
    @bert26a 6 лет назад +3

    Kubota doesn't have DEF fluid on their tractors instead like yours they have a DPF with EGR which isn't a good thing to have on a diesel engine either. After your warranty is off look in to deleting your dpf system it will give you problems.

    For implements you should consider getting a trencher.
    Also a generator head for remote site power...and the auto anti-stall will work great.
    In your work you would use these two an awful lot!

      Def is different then a dpf. Def is for nox emissions and its filter does not require a regen. The dpf is what catches the soot (black smoke) and then required a regen to burn it out.

    • @engineer775

      All the attachments are interchangeable. The loaders come standard with skid steer quick connects. Yes it is good for rookies. 85% of people buying tractors are rookies and Yanmar is trying to capture more of the market.

    My question is I want a similar size tractor. I need a front bucket, post hole digger, rototiller, box blade, front forks. But where it gets complicated is I need a backhoe as well. Back hoe attachments are around 18k dollars. I can just go buy a whole entire full sized back hoe for that. Any opinions on this? Buy one machine with attachments or buy multiple machines at a lower overall cost?

    • @engineer775
      @engineer775  6 лет назад +2

      Great question and one I wrestle with often. If you are going to do a lot of trenching like I do for my projects then I would go with a mini-ex. The tractor with backhoe is way too slow. If you only occasionally have to dig a hole, plant trees, trench etc then a tractor backhoe is great. The mini-ex also give you more hydraulic options and higher lift if you need to run and auger and it provides the best visibility. The tractor can do it all but when it comes to serious trenches I use a mini excavator. The loader is a must and I am excited to try out the new from remotes for a grapple and eventually I will be trying augering from the front.

    • @townsendliving9750
      @townsendliving9750 6 лет назад +1

      @@engineer775 thanks for your reply, not quite sure speed or efficiency is very important to me. Cost is probably top on the list, being able to get every thing I want. Meaning withing one machine to do it all, or several machines to complete the tasks. I guess there is alot of variables that go in to that like what kind of deals I can find on the machines. I know a machine your size with a backhoe would do everything i need just fine. But then I might be able to buy a mini excavator cheaper then the price of just the backhoe attachment. I guess it very well might come down to the deals I can find locally
