It is hard to verify your self to see if the liner is broken but some of the more reputable brands will let you send it in and they’ll check for you too
The dropping of the helmet puts marks on the helmet that look like crash and if you are involved in a crash, your helmet goes with you to the hospital and the doctor uses the marks on the helmet to align with possible injury in your head. That's one of the biggest reasons. If you drop your helmet you replace it

But I feel in your case there would be no need to worry about brain bleed.
Sorry, your (literal) shade tree logic is wrong. I spent 5 years working tech service/warranty for Bell. Helmets are designed to distribute impact force, with the rider’s head as part of the system (it’s going to be there in a crash, so they plan for that). When the head is absent, the foam can be point loaded with all impact force, resulting in damage to that section of foam, from a seemingly innocuous fall. Damage to EPS is difficult to assess. Without a sensor to measure how much force entered the helmet, you have no way to know if it’s reasonable to replace the helmet. This content is at best irresponsible, possibly unethical, and potentially a liability, since your advice could effect someone’s crash outcome. I’d ask one of your lawyer buddies what they think about this video. I also dated a speech path, so I can assure you that learning to talk again is much more expensive than a new helmet every month for a long time.
@@DEVIL666wtf maybe not, but it is worth exploring newer better composites. The biggest risk is that the materials glues start to fail, and de-laminate.. it won't be visually apparent but the helmet might be compromised. $200 every 10 years isn't that bad if you love to ride.
I’d rather not take the chance…..replace it! How can you put a price on the most valuable part of your body? I love your videos but this one I respectfully disagree bro.. great content keep it up!
It’s funny to me because I teach motorcycle safety courses at a very reputable college in Ontario Canada, as such part of our curriculum is to teach about helmets and how to keep and protect them. If a helmet is dropped from 3feet or higher it is recommended to replace it as even the outer layer will have damage that can directly affect its performance in case of an impact. Never leave it on your seat…it could fall or someone could accidentally knock itoff, put it back and you would never know. Never hang it on your mirrors or back rest as that will actually dent the inner structure. Remember it is designed to distribute forces around the head if there is any imperfections it MAY deflect all the force to the one damaged area. Again. Just buy a new one.. your head is the only one you get.. also I watched your videos and man that rock or whatever you hit on the highway must’ve made your shorts have a brown stain.. way to keep it in control brother.. nice bike ride safe

I used to rally four wheelers up here in rural Alaska. I can't tell you how many times my helmet banged against tree limbs and crap like that. And I mean like solid inch thick tree branches. These things were smashing into my helmet. That wasn't even DOT rated. So I think dropping a helmet on the ground really isn't an issue
Facts. I've had helmets do my head right in larger impacts after being in smaller crashes. Not counting the ones where I kept my head pulled off the ground. And I had a nice helmet I chucked and stamped after getting mad because I'm an idiot who clearly doesn't value my time or money. Anyways that thing was cracked down the top, chin bar collapsed. Was using it while saving up for a new one and it saved my head when it bounced off the ground probably around 80-95mph cause I had been tumbling for awhile. It was only one big impact to the back of the head idk how it wasn't dinged up everywhere after that one.
So your helmet hit some branches and it's fine because...? Did you take a high speed crash with it to verify? Btw DOT is garbage, look for ECE 22.05 or better 22.06.
Something with SNELL rating. As the commenter below suggests I think that brand sells a SNELL rated helmet for just $200 and has like 100 different color and pattern options (even specific ones like a Texas, Come and Take It model has silver or gold color options), you'll find something you like. Biggest thing is go to a dealership that lets you try them on, and then find one that fits you well (it should feel really tight, but uniformly tight around your head), it will loosen and break in with use, but you don't want a loose or wobbly fitting helmet. Different brands and different models fit differently (some people have more round heads, some more football shape, its why there are a bunch and mostly just to fit every different type of head, but also some have really cool features like interior pop down sunglass shades or some have bluetooth speakers if you want to spend a lot of money, but for a budget I'd suggest a basic $200 SNELL helmet)
Depends on your budget, and the shape of your noggin. Attend a major bike show and some better manufacturers can do custom fitting onsite. For me, finding a comfortable helmet with low wind noise was the most important design factor. Clamshell helmets sometimes have noise issues, so get an agreement to return it if you are unsatisfied.
For anyone wondering how tough Shark visors are. They are pretty strong, I fell on my face at a track and hit the top left of the visor, it just had scratches
After surviving a crash I'd be more worried about buying a new motorcycle. If the helmet is whole, wear it. If your head is in one piece, continue living.
For anyone wondering about the 5 year thing, basically the foam layer inside will get hard over time and then is not going to be able to protect your head from an impact properly.
It all depends on what your shell is made of. There are some very high-end helmets that dispersed the shock beautiful but those are not meant for multiple impacts over time. So you really should get to know what helmet in order to know what it can take as far as abuse. But if you have just a standard DOT rated helmet you can throw that thing down the stairs and it's going to be fine.
To clarify, this 'myth' used to be a fact as there were sacrificial material in helmets meant to break instead of your skull. If you have an older helmet just replace it.
Ive got a helmet with some cosmetic damage, Some white marks on an otherwise yellow helmet. At most its a mild annoyance but not gonna rush out and get it replaced just yet. Got it signed by one of the TT racers too so probably will hang onto it for a bit
Depends on the shell material, if it’s fiberglass or plastic you’re probably fine but carbon fiber is notorious for its fragility when an imperfection is introduced

I think alot of Gixxer riders have left him in the dust and he just can't get over it 😂
Wats a Gixxer 😂 for real wat does it mean???
@@davidsuruy3383anyone who rides a Suzuki gsxr, the hate is mostly a joke but it cuz gsxr riders are stereotyped as big ego idiots who refuse to wear gear.
@@davidsuruy3383 think of a man in his mid 20s who riders a GSXR with his lack of helmet tank top shorts sometimes loose tracksuit bottoms with Mx style gloves
@@stefanbrown8176 I would be amazed at the gloves or tracksuit bottoms... Day I bought my bike, someone pulled up with ripped skinny jeans (fashionable, I guess), a tank top, tennis shoes, and a helmet. No gloves, no pants worth anything (I could already see their knees, might as well wear shorts, far more comfortable in shorts and equally protective), not even long sleeve shirt.
That man was riding, as you would guess, a GSX-R.
@@davidsuruy3383 think of gixxer or gsxr as a honda civic in the car world haha. can be very good and reliable, but ususally knuckleheads get them and clap them out
It's important to know that this changes when talking about the more expensive epoxy composites. Fiberglass, carbon fiber, and aramid composites use epoxy as a binding agent. Motorcycle grade epoxy is tougher but it is still way more brittle than full polycarbonate helmets. So be more weary of them.
Careful coz in many places a drop or scruff can mean it is no longer legally viable, here in Australia cops can fine you if you have suspicious scratches.
Also a slight crack in the foam can be a place your head goes in a crash.
Man's mission is to hate on gixxer
I should say if you do end up getting a helmet on the cheaper side and it dropped from a good height, it’ll eventually have hairline fractures inside
Just dropped mine 2 days ago god bless
Please get it reviewed or get a new one brother, even if there's no outward damage, damage inside the shell could cause it to fail in case of an accident. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
Don’t play with your life people, unnecessary risks are never worth it.
I've broken so many visors by dropping helmets, yet when I crashed a gnarly crash the helmet saved my noggin.
Can u do more Gixxer bro skits ?
Have friends that ride and they talked about helmets being for when you would rather not see what your skull does on a grater.
Real shi, we ain’t falling for those capitalistic helmet ads
It is hard to verify your self to see if the liner is broken but some of the more reputable brands will let you send it in and they’ll check for you too
The dropping of the helmet puts marks on the helmet that look like crash and if you are involved in a crash, your helmet goes with you to the hospital and the doctor uses the marks on the helmet to align with possible injury in your head. That's one of the biggest reasons. If you drop your helmet you replace it
Geez, thats dumb reasoning. Doctors will assess the damage to YOUR HEAD and not your helmet. Are you a GXSR user? 😆
@@XMGi00 Jesus Christ you are stupid. They examine the helmet to see if there are any marks because a hit in the helmet will not cause bruising immediately but the impact of the brain hitting the inside of the skull can cause brain bleeding and if the patient is unconscious it's pretty hard for doctors to ask them. But I feel in your case there would be no need to worry about brain bleed.

I start watching your vlog and youtubes. You keep mentioning about the gixxers. What is the story about you and the gixxers? Just want to know?
If you slide, then you ride
if you smack, toss it's wack
Sooo my 10 year old helmet needs to be thrown out hmmmm
@@DEVIL666wtf maybe not, but it is worth exploring newer better composites. The biggest risk is that the materials glues start to fail, and de-laminate.. it won't be visually apparent but the helmet might be compromised. $200 every 10 years isn't that bad if you love to ride.
“If your helmet is over Five years old. Replace it.”
I’m gonna show this to my dad.
Idunno man, you definitely exhibiting Gixxer squid energy with this one
Even the slightest damage before an accident can mean life or death, every single bit of damage damages the intregrety of the helmet
Sure the liner will be fine, but how about the surface tension? Its the same reason we cant write/color on the helmet with certain markers
The GSXR disses get better and better with each video
Who the hell thinks a helmet dropping off a bike would make it unusable? It’s designed to protect your head in a crash
I’d rather not take the chance…..replace it! How can you put a price on the most valuable part of your body? I love your videos but this one I respectfully disagree bro.. great content keep it up!
Agreed
@@stefancastelijn1876 absolutely agree, I’ve been taught the same from the first time I was introduced to bikes, many people just don’t know about this one critical piece of gear and how to keep it functional. Also yes was very scary experience, thought I was a goner for a split second 😂
"if it is five years old replace it"💀
Wtf do u mean💀 its true
I think the idea comes from safety rules regarding helmets for construction and other hard labor work. Those helmets when dropped offcialy have to rechieve a new quality check.
What should you do if The foam layer disintegrates when it’s touched
He is roasting the hell out of gixxer 🤣Can anyone explain me why he hates gixxer
Gixxers are the cheapest of major sport bike brands so you have a lot of unexperienced riders buying them, modding them up, and overall trashing them. Kind of like the mustangs of the sport bike community. Just something to get comments on his videos too
Me using my dad's helm now from past 5 years
And he have already used it for 10 years 😂😂
please get something new man, an old or damaged helmet isn't gonna save your life in a crash.
Was he still talking about helmets when he said "if its over 5 years old, replace it" ?
”If it's over 5 years old, replace it" me looking at my 10 year old helmet full of scratches 🤔
Btw DOT is garbage, look for ECE 22.05 or better 22.06.
what helmet do you recommend Im new to all this 😮
The one he has in the video is a good budget one, i think it's a scorpion Evo or something like that
Budget first then fit then personal choice

Is it just me who thinks its sick to have battle scars and scrapes on a motorcycle helmet?
For anyone wondering how tough Shark visors are. They are pretty strong, I fell on my face at a track and hit the top left of the visor, it just had scratches
I have a 22 year old simson dirt racing helmet and its got lots of paint from my dads old roll cage and it works just fine
I always drop test a new helmet, prevents crashes by satiating the crash gods.
Guy drops his S23 on the ground. Oh no, there's a scratch. Time to buy the S24.
Thank You soooooo much for saying it out loud brother 🙏 this is 💯% legit... Including the part about Gixxer Riders 🤣🤣
Don't listen to him. If you wreck, replace your helmet.
seriously, this video is stupid dangerous
Bro took the *If you're too broke* personally man 😭 💵
After surviving a crash I'd be more worried about buying a new motorcycle. If the helmet is whole, wear it. If your head is in one piece, continue living.
For anyone wondering about the 5 year thing, basically the foam layer inside will get hard over time and then is not going to be able to protect your head from an impact properly.
i threw my helmet at a tree as a joke, its still perfectly fine
Why did he have to drop it like that 😭
It all depends on what your shell is made of.
At least fulmer will gladly x-ray your helmet after an impact...long live Afco!
Helmet store assistants dont even know this.
True, but remember if you get hit by a car going 80mph and you fall to your head- even the helmet won't save you. Stay safe
bro has something personal against GSX-R owners
Literally yelled don’t do that as he dropped it
ah yes, the helmet can only take ONE collision before it's useless
That drop scratched my heart 😢
It’s just polystyrene yo it’s fine. Shits gonna survive the nuclear apocalypse
if you find your head worth keeping, you get a new helmet after that...
Yeah no
Yea, the one who told people that to begin with probably sold helmets..
To clarify, this 'myth' used to be a fact as there were sacrificial material in helmets meant to break instead of your skull. If you have an older helmet just replace it.
on a work site if you'd drop your hard hat, draw on it or alter it in any way you MUST replace it so i just go by that rule
That auto lock to the guy on castle is crazy
Save the $300 bro your head will be fine! You’ll just grow another one
This bro just saved too many lives
I can only imagine where that myth came from, *cough*cough* motorcycle helmet manufacturers and sellers
Ive got a helmet with some cosmetic damage,
Some white marks on an otherwise yellow helmet.
At most its a mild annoyance but not gonna rush out and get it replaced just yet.
Got it signed by one of the TT racers too so probably will hang onto it for a bit
Those same people use the same controller they've thrown against their wall full force 😂
I rode a motorbike for 5 years and I used to dream all the time about running from the cops because i forgot to wear my helmet that day
Good luck with that. You'll need it
Bigger myth is that helmets should remain intact after a crash. The breaking helps disperse energy that would have hit you instead.
Depends on the shell material, if it’s fiberglass or plastic you’re probably fine but carbon fiber is notorious for its fragility when an imperfection is introduced
you give off hampton but with Motorcyle helmets vibes
My father lost his helmet of 26 years after hitting gravel on a corner going at 200km. Every time we go past that corner I get the same thing "hay look it's my corner!". He is lucky he only broke every bone in his arm and all his ribs.
