- Tom Nook, kindly business man or… evil schemer? I think it's time to come to his defense.
Voted one of the top Nintendo villains at the 2002 Annual Nintendo Power Awards - despite not really even being an official villain… it’s a question the Animal Crossing community has been pretty divided on, over the years. To some, he’s a giving soul, looking out for the player with commendable generosity, while to others… he’s a knee-bashing capitalist tyrant.
So what are the Nook haters saying? IS he actually the good guy??

I was also pretty neutral about Tom Nook, of course I hated paying debt to him in ACNL because I didn't know how to get a lot of money fast so it took me ages to save up bells and then I couldn't buy anything in the next few days lol. But I also did like the memes of him being the capitalist overlord... Still, pretty neutral feelings. I've been playing a lot of ACNH lately, after a one year long break. Theres so many little things I dislike about it, that makes me not enjoy it as much as NL! But, Tom Nook is not one of them, at least Nintendo kept him in the same role he had in previous games haha. Unlike Reese and Dr. Shrunk..

I dont understand why people think Tom Nook is evil. The guy literally gives us a house that we can pay whenever we want. Yeah in the first game we gotta do some work for him, but thats just to learn the basics of the game. He gives us debt but is not like he threats us to pay him or anything, again, we can pay at any time we want.
I think he's neutral, not overtly helping but also not a capitalist overlord. He does force our hand into a loan and, depending on the game, job too, but he's not forcing much else. It's an escape from reality game targeted at everyone, including kids, after all! Also love how Peta just avoided the question by telling horrific, graphic facts to children.

Very fair opinion!! By nature of his position, I guess it's hard to be a completely generous 'good guy' - he does still make his money after all!
