    Personally, I think a lot of people buy Wranglers because they want to look edgy to their friends and soccer moms who want to look hip and cool. They may like the idea of it, but don't know how to live with it and after a while probably complain about comfort, or not having things like back up cameras.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey 10 лет назад +1

      Well backup cams are handy on the Wrangler with an oversized tyre and the giant rear wiper motor blocking your view, but they can be added to the 430&730 Nav with just a code so even there the creature comforts are available.... even on a Wrangler Rubicon. Now forward-facing axlecam that's what I want instead of album art / sirrius/preset list on the screen while I drive off-road.. =;-)

    • @charlessumner5657
      @charlessumner5657 10 лет назад

      And that's where Cherokees come in. Jeep ain't dumb. Soccer moms can still have an edgy SUV that says Jeep on it, and have the ride and amenities of a car. Plus the capabilities in the snow and mud and such. Cool as the bottom of the pillow.

    • @nemeanlion1967
      @nemeanlion1967 10 лет назад +1

      The Cherokees are not the same thing. They don't have that edge.

    • @KnightShadey
      @KnightShadey 10 лет назад

      NemeanLion
      the Cherokee is not the same as a Wrangler, but that's the point, especially considering your previous comment about people not using their car's capabilities.
      It's to a Wrangler what an Evoque is to a Defender or a Rav4 is to a 4-runner, although the Jeep is better in both off-road categories IMO which is whre Charles' "edgy SUV" comment fits in.

    • @nemeanlion1967
      @nemeanlion1967 10 лет назад

      It doesn't fit, because it isn't edgy.

    Jeeps are great in snow, of course it all depends on your tires. The 2 best all purpose tires that come to mind are the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac and BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO. Both are great all terrains, only hamper MPG a little and are quiet on the road, for sure the 2 best all terrains for snow especially on hard pack thanks to all the siping in the tread and soft rubber compound.

    Thanks for the review. What at least I find fascinating (rather than offroad qualities) is that it is the only car I know that combines the practicality of an SUV with the romanticism of a convertible...

  • @TonyTheTruckGuy
    @TonyTheTruckGuy 11 лет назад

    any Jeep is pretty much intended for off-road use but they slap street tires on them. If you're gonna off-road, get some all terrains, mud terrains are overkill unless you live on the trail. The 4x4 systems are good enough stock but lockers are for sure a plus. The stock suspension will do the job but a lift with bigger tires always helps. And always have a winch or tow strap and another vehicle in case you get stuck.

  • @badandy102
    @badandy102 10 лет назад

    I've always owned a Wrangler, always will. And I love having a stick shift. Makes off-road more fun, especially on the real tricky terrain.

  • @hjrivera1

    Nathan, this time you hit it!! The Jeep Wrangler is an Off-road vehicle, not a luxury or sporty car. That's why it should be seen as a rough, practical, all-terrain, simple but reliable off-road vehicle. It's the best selling all-terrain car in the world!! At least is the best selling Jeep where I live, here in Puerto Rico!

    One of the things a lot of people don't seem to realize is that, at least in the traditional 2 door, there is almost no interior storage behind the back seat; especially not for the gear for an extended camping trip.

    did you guys see Consumer Reports latest review of the Wrangler? talk about being out of touch. they claim it rides rough
    the 2016 Wrangler Sahara rides nicer than the 2016 Subaru Forester. i know b/c i came from a Forester. yet, the Forester is praised by Consumer Reports (what a shock)

  • @gregarends2731
    @gregarends2731 9 лет назад

    Most offroad cars will want to be a Jeep Wrangler, it is still to me the benchmark of what a 4x4 vehicle with real offroad capability should be. I owned a Toyota Landcruiser '89 for many years than a Nissan Pathfinder '98 and also a Isuzu D-Max LS '15, which I still drive. But I drove many Wranglers, Monteros, Suzuki/Geo's, Daihatsu's. As many as I could borrow or rent to do my weekend offroading. There is nothing more liberating to me than stepping into my 4×4, putting a big ice jug with refreshments in the back with some snacks and swimming gear and picking up some friends on my way to offroading for the day. Twice I almost bought a wrangler. The most important reason I went for the cars mentioned above and not the wrangler is because they had more space, my jug simply will not fit in a Jeep wrangler ! And with this hot sun, this not something I'm willing to overlook.

    I completely agree with you Nathan. You buy a wrangler for a purpose. Yes, people buy it for its style. But let Jeep fulfill the people who use it for a purpose and not bash it for its discomforts like some other reviewers for consumers do such as CR's. Keep it real. Keep it simple. Keep it practicle.

    The hood has a safety latch that will keep it from doing what you described, that's not how you remove the doors and other than that you used a lot of words to say not much at all.

    the purpose of removable doors is 1) keep the rugged and legendary history of the jeep alive today from back when it was a military vehicle with removable doors for certain climates.The other purpose they serve is to maximize visibility and minimize body damage while off road.

    ....How well do the electronics in the JK handle water? Is the expensive stereo/navigation system waterproof? Will the internals of the engine hold up to constant vibrations from traveling at speed across the desert or down a washboard road and not tear itself to pieces? If it has engine trouble on the trail, will you be able to tackle the repairs and get back to civilization? I really don't see the drivetrain & electrical parts of the new JK lasting 20 years unless it sticks to the street.

  • @therealebolaboy

    I can't agree more. Jeep Wrangler is not an suv. It is an offroad machine that is ok on the road. If you are coming into it for the first time, please do drive it before buying. It will get grocery's, it will get you to work, but it is not a sedan. It will road walk at highway speeds, the wind (from every vehicle that passes you, or you pass) will push it around in the lane, and the tires can be noisy ( pick the BFG muds if you want to leave the hard top ever).

I´m talking about really dense mud and the car response was simply fantastic at high speed. But there are a couple details I really didn´t like. One, and the most annoying was that the roof has a leak. I could have been that it was bad installed by me since the last time I took off the freedom top, BUT... I´ll keep going in the next comment

    another review said "you will make new friends and get all sorts of attention once you buy a Jeep!"

      No, you can only take them off when the vehicle is unlocked and open. They don't come off like Lego's. The only thing that's been known to be vulnerable in a Jeep is the battery, if you don't have a separate locking system for your hood.

    Hey, I was hoping someone could give me some advice or knowledge on this. Sometime in the near future I will be graduating from highschool. My parents asked me what type of car I would want to drive after I graduate (No I'm not some spoiled rich kid, but I am grateful for parents that are offering this). I brought up the Jeep Wrangler TJ. It seems that my dad somewhat supports the idea but my mom is not totally for it. The only reason is, is because of safety. I can totally see where she is coming from but was just wondering do you have any hands on advice after driving your wrangler? Her thing is that the soft top is not going to protect you in an accident and in a side impact accident, you don't have much protection.
    Thanks

    When I was 15, I wanted an RX7 or mustang, my parents said no way, let me learn on 2.5L TJ, I'm now on my 5th wrangler and have never second guessed any of those decisions

    I've owned five jeeps. My first was a 1958 Willys CJ3b.I strayed from Jeeps and bought a V8 Dodge Challenger but now I'm back in a Jeep.
    I traded the Challenger for a Unlimited Rubicon.
    If they put the 5.7 Hemi in the Jeep Wrangler it would be a home run.
    Please, Please take my money.

    Outside of the United States you can get a JK with a diesel. Unfortunately they only offer us the JK with the same engine that is in the Caravan/Town & Country "mini-van" (and yes, they even offer the Town & Country with a diesel overseas. You couldn't give me a new JK without a diesel, well you could but I would sell it. I will stick with my '91 YJ and its reliable/easy to repair 4.0L and my '05 Jeep KJ with is torquey little 2.8L diesel. I just don't like that they overcomplicated the JK….

    Irony...I actually went from a Honda accord to a jeep wrangler Like you said...I love my wrangler... But people need to research jeeps before they buy them...i drive for 1hr&40min everyday for a week before refueling. Like 10 cm snow storms and no problem

    The only thing I've never understood about the wrangler are those annoying hood latches. Ya they look cool but they don't serve a real purpose. Their a pain to unlatch and hook up. The wrangler in my opinion would be a lot better with a conventional hood latch.

  • @breeze787

    Hmmm, buy a Jeep Wrangler because you can take off the doors and the roof? Oh also you can lower the front windshield so you can go gorilla bad ass off roading. Hmmm, I'll stick to my TOYOTA FJ Cruiser. Nope, I cannot take my doors or roof off technically but my FJ Cruiser has never sprung a leak when it rains. I like that my FJ Cruiser is a GREAT daily driver and as worthy an off road vehicle.

    is it easier to drive than a grand Cherokee? cause the grand Cherokee has too many blind spots

  • @laloquirozg

    BUT, when I took it to the road again I could hear the water splashing when I hit the breaks. So I took off the freedom top piece on the drivers side and realized that the water was INSIDE the piece. YES, WATER INSIDE MY ROOF!!! There is a small fabric hole in the front side, and there´s where the water got out, so it´s there where it got in. The other detail is that once I stopped in a red light, the car started shaking as if it had a cold!!! It was the fan working making it shake. Not fun!!!

    Boy, I really want an 80's - or 90's Wrangler with no roof, doors, radio, AC, etc. Unfortunately, it's too expensive to buy, maintain and insure. For now, I'll keep riding my motorcycle instead. :'(

    Well that was a FJ this is a JK and I had mine for about a year now with no issues. Here in the UK Land Rover drivers constantly break down let alone a few minor issues you are complaining about.
