  • Companies regularly buy back their own shares, but there’s a difference between a normal level of buybacks and an ultra-aggressive one. In this video, I discuss four companies that apparently think their stocks are cheap enough to spend tons of capital buying back shares right now.

Buying own stock is mostly a gimmick. Are they saying that there is no more worthwhile opportunities for them to invest in? Besides, in uncertain times (like now where we are between a recession and soft landing), you do not want to shrink your capital base.

A few of the defence companies have accelerated buybacks recently, in addition to their regular buybacks. RTX bought a huge amount when their shares fell a year ago. NOC did the same and has halved its count in the past ten years

EBAY consistently shrinks their share count.

    Matt, Very well presented.
I just wanted to know the GM stock, considering the very high leverage for the company the company trades cheap, whats are key variables or catalyst do you see play in the business apart from buybacks?

Don’t be fooled…….when corporations do this they don’t buy individual shares, they buy the options granted to their directors.

The success of a share buyback program can be determined by how much the outstanding shares change. If the company is only purchasing newly issued shares from exercised stock option grants then the number of outstanding shares should not decrease.

GM making money over the next 3 to 5 years is VERY questionable. union contracts, DEBT,
coming recession and the questionable vuability of the "EV mantra" make this a very vulnerable
    business.

Paypal is the best of all of them. GM not worth it at all.

Every crash/collapse brings with it an equivalent market chance if you are early informed and equipped, I've seen folks amass up to $1m amid economy crisis, and even pull it off easily in favorable conditions. Unequivocally, the collapse is getting somebody somewhere rich.

I do not disagree, there are strategies that could be put in place for solid gains regardless of economy or market condition, but such execution are usually carried out by investment experts with experience since the 08' crash.

The issue is people have the "I want to do it myself mentality" but not equipped enough for a crash, hence get burnt. Ideally, advisors are reps for investing jobs, and at first-hand encounter, my portfolio has yielded over 300% since 2020 just after the pandemic to date.
