a little bit about me: hi, I'm august (she/her)! I am a self-proclaimed ~frugal old lady~ so all of the books you see on this channel are thrifted, from dollar tree or my local indie bookshop, kindly gifted, or from my lovely local library.
if you like longish videos where we just sit & chat about literature, old books, hidden gem thrift store finds, & books that fell under the radar (or were before our time), then we will definitely become friends!
you’re definitely my new favorite youtuber ❤️ i love your energy
love the vibe of your videos august
Great haul! Wuthering Heights is amazing. It’s a great winter read! Also I definitely recommend tackling Moby Dick if you ever get your hands on a copy. It’s so worth the time commitment. 🖤
I love Alice and wonderland and can't wait to read it
I adore your content so much. Esp. how unique your books are. Please let me know when you will be reading, sexing the cherry, as I would love to buddy read it with you.
Dollar Tree books, man 🙌🏻
Three of my favorite books I’ve found at the dollar tree. Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray, The Bees by Laline Paull, and The Office of Mercy by Ariel Djanikian!
The Land of Elyon series was one of my favs as a kid! definitely middle grade, one of the best. that series + the wrinkle in time series give me all the nostalgia
Such a pleasant surprise getting home and seeing a new upload! My ebook service has a lot of these for free, and im going to check them out
Hi August love your enthusiasim
I currently have to read Galatea 2.2 for uni and so far I can agree, I feel stupid while reading it 😂 I love a good thrifted book haul, thanks for the lovely video 🥰
Galatea 2.2 is one of my favorite books of the year and Richard Powers is one of my favorite authors!
love your taste and recommendations! thank you so much for your videos 🍁🌨
Wide Sargasso sea sounds so amazing! Please try out Jane Eyre. It’s so good!!
Love the haul and the books that you found. Found a few interesting gems. if you like weird and wonderful books written very lyrically and are kind of confusing in the best way possible take a peep at Chouette by Claire Oshetsky
Oof the cover of The Animals In That Country 😍 The premise also sounds so good! Based on that biology/psychology/weird/satirical description, it made me think of The Bees, by Laline Paul, have you read that one?? I haven’t read it, but is high in my to read list! And I think the synopsis might interest you. It’s described as The Handmaid’s Tale meets The Hunger Games, but in a beehive and all the characters are bees.
If you like cranky grandmas who love animals and hate people, I highly recommend Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, by Olga Tokarczuk, if you haven’t read it. So good!
I actually just reread both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre last month-Wuthering Heights is not my vibe, but I hope you like it! I prefer Jane Eyre tbh and I hope you enjoy that one when you get ahold of it too!
I'm currently reading Wide Sargasso Sea and it's pretty good! I'm not that far into yet though but so far I don't think you'd even need to have read Jane Eyre to get it. Also I believe Rhys is pronounced like rice? That's how I've heard it at least!
Also, have you ever read 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest'? It's super probably so chances are high but it seems right up your alley!
Oh gosh Jean Rhys' wide sargasso sea ruined so much of jane eyre for me! I couldnt see the classic the same way after it but thats also testament of how good Rhys is
I just joined your site but really would appreciate if you would not take the Lord’s name in vain so often. It is offensive to me and to many others. Thank you
