@@StefanDrurythanks for great video, fully agree with comment on need for music. Engine sounds add much more to the drama of the experience. Only one concern… what happens to the flares dispensed during the show? Can cases or remnants be recovered to prevent pollution and harm to marine creatures etc?
I agree Stef - music competing with aircraft noise - no competition and just shouldn't happen. The essence of an air show is just the raw sound of aircraft engines and the joy of watching their manoeuvres... I really enjoyed your video and loved the sound of the jets at the end and the full-on roar of their afterburners... awesome. Enjoy your day tomorrow 👍🙂❤
I wore a jumper hoodie and long gym running pants for protection against the sun haha got a little hot but not burnt and had an umbrella which was a saviour too
We loved your video of the Gold Coast Pacific Airshow. We went Saturday and loved it. Great for the Gold Coast . Love our beautiful beaches . I heard it’s been signed for another 5 years on the Gold Coast
@StefanDrury I wish I knew you where here.. I could have introduced you to CodeFour and brought to up to ATC to meet thr airboss :) maybe next year Sir
It was a great day! That yak 110 is an amazing airshow vehicle. You've done an amazing job to film during the day edit all night for an upload thus morning. Great work
Yes that 110 is fantastic, and flown so impressively as well. I love sharing aviation content like this so very happy to work late! Thanks for watching.
It was a fabulous weekend here on the Goldie, and I watched it all from my deck! (Got some great photographs too.) This has got to be the best event, ever held on the Gold Coast, and here for the next 5 years!
This weekend is the annual Air and Water Show here in Chicago. It’s great… but I’m a bit envious. That looked like a step up from ours. I’ll just have to console my self hanging out on my roof being buzzed by the USAF Thunderbird’s F16s sometimes at less than 1000 AGL.
The show in Chicago looks pretty cool. You should have a look at the RAAF display for River Fire every year in Brisbane (city about an hour up from where this video was shot) they do some crazy stuff, C-17s, Super Hornets and Growlers do low passes through buildings then at night flare runs. Back in the day the F-111s did dump and burns through the city at night to launch the fireworks display. In the age of "Health and Safety" I'm grateful for it!
Brilliant. We have a similar Air Show in Southport, England. It takes place on the beach, although because of the British health and safety, we can't stand in the sea while the planes do their thing! Not that the sea comes in much at Southport! Some of the aircraft on display here are the Typhoon, Red Arrows, and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Thanks for another great video, Stef! 😎
Thanks man that was good of you to present this. And yes, music is so unnecessary when you are trying to focus the commentary and the sound of the aircraft. Absolutely correct.
I went on Sunday and I thought the volume of the PA was obscene. It was uncomfortable the whole day with music blaring on top of the commentator. Stupidly unnecessary, you'd think Manowar were booked to play with the size of that PA.
Looks fantastic. Hope we can get over there when beck in Oz. Recently watched the Bournemouth Air Show which was smaller scale but also brilliant. I think the best I have seen was RIAT Fairford but have also enjoyed Farnborough and Duxford as well as RAAF Pearce back in the day. I agree about the music and am ambivalent about the commentary.
2 of the crew that died in the crash on Melville Island were flying the V-22 Osprey at the airshow. No comment about whether it was this particular Osprey.
Totally agree with the level of music I went on Friday and the music was blasting all day. Apart from that it was fantastic to see all the aircraft do their thing
That beach was absolutely packed… never seen it so packed ever!. Hopefully next year (or within a few years), I will get up to the Goldy and experience this air show. I miss the Goldy soooo much.
I'd like to see it held in spring or summer when a lot more jets from the states are available. It has the potential with the backdrop and the weather to be brilliant.
I was in the crowd there somewhere in the GA area with my son. I think there is no competition in terms of attracting the every-man/woman/etc - Avalon Airshow may have the static aircraft and other activities, but its a freaking long day for a family vs the enjoyable day at the beach with planes on the Gold Coast. I think I prefer the Gold Coast as a venue. It just ticks all the boxes for having accommodation right there, restaurants right there, somewhere cool to dip the toes on a hot day, and look up - there's aircraft! I think airshows that you can inspect the aircraft on static display are one thing, but it's not everyone's 'cup-of-tea'.
Agree about the music. Hearing those planes roar is definitely more important. Also it would make it easier to make clios for social media without getting copyright strike. Nice coverage. I didn't even know the show was on because I live 2 hours away in northern NSW and I'm not an aircraft enthusiast but I would have enjoyed the show for sure.
Hey Steph, I was there on Saturday and can’t believe I didn’t meet you, in one of your clips I saw myself in the background, I guess there’s always next year.😂
Yeah I was just there as an aviation fan this weekend, not really doing any meetups or anything like that. But yes hopefully next year, if you see me come say hey.
looked like a great turnout with a solid roster of aircraft. however, I think it was a bit of a missed opportunity not to feature an F35 given it's out latest and greatest new fighter.
Um...they were....busy. Amberly doesn't house F35's? And the F35's were doing.... other stuff. RAAF Mum here! Full display at Williamtown in November if you are interested??! I wouldn't miss an F35 flyover!!

I thought I recognized the sound of jet engines C 130 Hercules and smaller planes high above my unit but I couldn't see anything. Bugger! The last time I went to an airshow was in 1976 at Richmond airforce base in NSW as a teenager with my friends.
I saw a bomber buzzing Hastings Point (a few beaches down in Northern NSW) it was flying super low and banked hard so I got a good look at the under-side of it from only a few hundred meters away. I don't know what it was doing so far the hight limit of domestic drones (120m). Every now and then we have military aircraft buzzing the coastline but that experience was unique.
Awesome!! I was there Sunday. Of course the Rhino was my favourite, but would have LOVED to see the following. Instead of the showing a C17 twice, they should have had a B52 or a B1B. That would've been amazing. An F35 would have been pretty nice too.
I happened to be watching Flightradar24 today when an SIAI-Marchetti, on planned route OOL-DBO turned back to OOL. I tried to listen in to liveATC at OOL to find out why but it was all about done/landed by the time I got around to it all. I just wish I could remember the Tail Number.

I grew up on a rural property near the escarpment. RAAF planes, from the base in QLD going to the base in Newcastle, would use the gorge nearby as practice for low flying. I always thought Is was pretty cool seeing them so low.

I also think it was fantastic! Definitely feels weird though not having (many) static displays at an airshow though.
