There was DLC for the Japanese release of the UD HD. The grey helicopter (with the V spread shot) is a DLC component for both the PS3 and 360 releases in Japan. The red helicopter (which is a repaint of the large blue enemy helicopters) is an exclusive to the US/EU release.
What I love most about Mark and CGR is that although I don't own any current generation consoles not do I really play games anymore (something I am planning to change) I always look forward for his reviews, even if the games reviewed are obscure. Thanks alot CGR for all the hours of entertainment you have given me for free!
I like that the smoke is affected by the explosions even if they are a bit clunky at times. Nice music! I like special editions with an actual artbook that I can hold in my hands.
I wish Under Defeat HD Deluxe was ported to the PS Vita. I maintain that side-scrollers can still find a welcome home on handheld consoles. Such look like anachronistic throwbacks on modern consoles and HDTVs, but they look good on the small screen of handhelds. Like how well the Metal Slug arcade games translate well on the PSP even though the screen aspects don't match. Need an Under Defeat for the Vita for defeat on the go!
This is a rather easy game to get the platinum trophy for though. Not only can you obtain infinite credits and there's checkpoints everywhere, but two player makes it so both must be dead at the same time before actually getting a game over. You can also make it so u got 5 lives per credit, where each time you start out with 2 bombs. It's a rather easy game. Even if you had to do it in 2 credits on hardest difficulty it wouldn't have been hard.
And that's exactly why I suggested that in this instance, you don't know what you're talking about. Yes... they could have gotten rid of the slowdown. However in shmup games keeping the original slowdown IS part of the game. It allows time to maneuver. In fact the outcry from the community in games where the slowdown was altered has been considerable. So keeping the slowdown in the game is a design choice, not lazy programming.
id buy this game but at a 40 $ price tag on eBay I'm not so sure when HLTB says the main quest takes 1 and a half hour to complete... I'm pretty sure it's a typo though.

This is one of the most sought after Dreamcast games... and those in the shmup community were glad to get an updated version for a reasonable price.

I'll chime a bit here, there was no DLC released for the JP edition, those two new helicopters are exclusive to the Rising star port, in fact the "Red overpowered chopter" is aluded to Rising star, the downside of this is that you cannot compete against the japanese insane leaderboards so we are stuck fighting against EU-US versions :/.

One of the few SHMUP I had fun with on DC. However, I suck at these games, so it's difficult to justify more than $5-10 on a game I may not be able to beat. Also, no online co-op? Kind of bummer...
Sorry this shit is hot!! Love these arcady shmups but I'm kind of dissapointed with Ps3's selection of these type of games, 360 is where it's at with classic 2D arcade retro re-releases like the Cave shmups & DoDonpachi Deleuxe which are the cream of the crop.

Do you need to use both analog sticks during gameplay? I may want to use my arcade stick and it seems that one stick may not be enough to play it.
I like how it slows down the game when a big explosion happens like in classic scrolling shooters.

Reminds me a little of 1943 on the NES with the battleship bosses. The game does have massive slowdown, though. It's like R-Type Final all over again.

The widescreen mode looks a bit odd and unwieldy but can't go wrong with the original anyway.
