Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden
I just saw a guy mix neem oil with liquid magnesium to spray his veggies and swears by it. I wonder if this would work with epsom salt and neem. What do you think?
That beer looked tasty
How often should I fertilize my plants with Epsom salt? Once a week or twice a month
Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden) what about Vitamin C can that help your plants grow
I must admit, I was wondering what the beer was for. Apparently, it's for drinking.
itsnotthesamething Bingo. Gardening is hard work.
I watched the whole thing because of the beer.
beer in a lid placed on the ground will attract, trap and kill slugs and snails that eat the leaves of your plants
lol
You and me both lol
Using the flash cards was a brilliant teaching tool for those of us who are primarily visual learners. Great video, very informative, keep them coming!
Years later, Today I was wondering why it’s not digital .. I was like who uses flash cards hehe
Yes an excellent use of flash cards , keep up the good work Gary, I hope you enjoyed your sip of beer.
Watching them do the process is equally as useful😅
Going out to buy some Magnesium Sulphate for my cucumbers and some beer for me right now.
I don't know why, but I always love it when you say "welcome to the rustic garden"
Hey Gary, are you a teacher? This is one of the best how-to videos I've seen. The cards were really helpful and I liked that you explained WHY magnesium and sulfur are important in plants (I'm a chemistry teacher). I kept expecting you to take a swig of your beer there. Great job and thanks!
Thanks for all the detailed info. I really appreciate all the work you put into presenting information to your audience. Nicely done!
HI Gary, this is my second year at gardening. First in buckets, did ok, then I built a raised bed. Have tons of dukes and tomatoes. got my first yellow cucumber leaves. really enjoy your help videos for "me the non gardener" thanks a million!!
You sold me on the Epsom salt and the Beer! Thanks for the explanation. When someone told me to use epsom salt, I thought they were trying to kill my plants! I definitely needed the science behind it, and you delivered! Bravo!
AWESOME upload,
you Sir are becoming my go-to-guy for real chemistry in my garden.
Thank you for your time and dedication.
Appreciated
I have started a journal where I have written down notes from some of your videos and have looked back on them from time to time when I am having distress in my garden. I Thank-You for your educational videos, and I now have a much healthier and happier garden thanks to you!
+Kila Morgan Glad to help. You might notice year over year I change things. Still learning.
I really like all your videos mostly because of the simple explanation of plant chemistry. GREAT JOB!
the epsom salt makes the plants better, the beer makes everything else better :)
Thanks for such a great run down on Epsom salts Mr Gary :)
Think our tom's could do with a dose again..
Have a great one mate :)
Ah, Gary, one of my favorite garden helpers! Great info here on why it works. Thanks for sharing!
You have to be very careful when adding these chemicals. Trust me I have tried just about every supposed soil amendment Improvement technique trick there is. Last amendment I used outside of regular compost, worm castings, organic or synthetic fertilizer was magnesium sulfate. Yeah I had lovely green Vines until the hot weather hit. Then I had all kinds of problems with bugs and disease. The other bigger problem I had was blossom end rot on the tomatoes themselves. I was never able to harvest a single decent tomato.
Months later I found out that the extra magnesium decrease the uptake of calcium which is the main cause of blossom end rot lack of calcium. Do a soil test first before adding any chemical ammendment. Our soil has plenty of magnesium in it already. Again it's a micronutrient so not very much is needed. An entire tbsp per plant would be way too much for many soils. Just be careful so you don't create more problems for yourself.
Your description is Excellent. I have used Epsom salts when planting fruit trees and rose bushes mixed Epsom Salts together with some compost in the planting site, then I water it very well. Worked very good. I recently used Epsom Salts when I re seeded my lawn, looking forward to the results this was the first time I used it for the grass.
thanks for the simple yet detailed explanation about this. Time to add this to the shopping list and get started!
Great to hear. I've been using it for around a year and a half. It works great plus its not expensive. Great video
Can we use it for indoor plants Gary. Thanks
Epsom salt is wonderful stuff. I often first use it as a foot bath, and then the bath water is used for my plants. In sunny days I mix the salt into my juice and drink to keep up the loss of salts through sweating. Have an issue with muscle cramps, and it helps a lot.
Nice info vid!
All the best.
Halvor.
Gardening in Norway Hello over in Norway. We can treat ourselves as we treat our plants.
That is a great tip Halvor... using the epsom salts and water twice..... I will pinch that tip! Thankyou and Gary :D
We do same with foot bath and then to roses and veg
I also add a pinch to my daily water bottle for drinking
Gardening in Norway Foot Bath Water into Plants might be High Infection Athlete's Foot Fungi .
Your veggies probably taste like feet
Thanks so much Gary for sharing your knowledge. I am doing raised beds this year and i have watched just about all your videos! Some i have watched more than once...i learn something new every time :-)
I just found your channel! This is my first year gardening and I can't wait to use the information from your videos. Thank you for creating and sharing!

Gary great video, no, excellent video, I just did a soil course & you are so right on in all you are teaching here, thank you. By the way most soils around the world today are magnesium deficient, as are most humans, which is a bad thing as magnesium is the basis of over 7000 of the body's functions. If people have muscle cramps, twitching in eye or muscle tremors, sleeplessness, road rage, anxiety, trembling hands all signs of magnesium deficiency. Super important we supplement our soil so our food supplements us. Great class thanks from down under...now off to my Epsom bath that awaits. : )
I so enjoy comments which add value to the video in question
This is my first year of gardening and your videos have been extremely helpful! Thank you!
Would the epsom salt work on root vegetables too, like carrots, beets? Do they need it?
You forgot the importance of keeping the "keeper of the plants" hydrated - beer. The notecards are very useful for us watching - helps the message sink in. Thanks! Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Hi Gary. Thank you for your time and great videos. Beer is also great slug control in the garden, but better used to relax and smell the roses. Rob
Thank you ever so for sharing.
I'm just starting gardening need all the help.

Thank you for such a great, clearly explained video! We ran into a Mg deficiency problem this year with our tomato and pepper seedlings. Epsom salts to the rescue!
It works. Just go lightly with it. Good luck

Thanks for this video and sharing your knowledge. I have used Epsom Salts on my tomatoes and capsicum for the first time this year (with blood and bone and some liquid fertilisers).
my tomatoes are taller and better yielding than all previous years.
thank you for explaining this so thoroughly. Beginners like me appreciate that.
What magnesium sulfate or Epsom Salt does for your tomatoes and vegetables and how to use it.
I really like how you are so thorough with your explanations, Gary! Great job! By the way, is the beer beneficial as well ; )
Where do you buy sulfur and is there a brand you recommend?
keyplayr61 Thanks. Yes I find the beer very beneficial.
Esther Ishmael-Oku If the sulfur in Epsom Salt isn't enough, Im not sure were you would find straight sulfur. I have bought Wettable Sulfur in the pest for sprays. You can find it under that name on line.
Thanks!
Gary, I was waiting for the info on that beer...and then you drank it. lol. Great information, thank you as always.
I got to write that off to as a prop.
LOL. awesome.
After all the RUclips advice I have started using Epsom Salt on my Toms and Peppers this year - Thanks to you, I now understand why I am doing it!!
Really enjoy your videos, very appreciated.
KEMAL DERVISH Youre welcome. I hope it goes well

Will do. I just discovered you have two channels. Wonder if you could combine them? One channel is always better, videos can be labeled if they are just on one topic. Sheesh look at Styxhexenhammer, he has gotten tens of thousand of subscribers since the election and he does political commentary (pro-trump), gaming videos AND pro-occult videos all on one channel! Talk about opposing topics, yet subscribers don't mind, the videos are labeled so folks only watch the category they like.
i was wondering: what will he use the beer for? of course! adding nutrients and hydration to the planter!
great vids! you'e a natural teacher and i'm taking notes.
+Jeff Collins Oh yea I have to stay hydrated.
Epsom salt is a good option, but a better start and addition, would be dolomitic lime! Either spread on top and/or mixed into the soil. it gives you calcium and magnesium in one..plus it balances your ph and keeps it close to 7. Calcium and magnesium are essential in soil to keep it from going acidic. They are both double positive cations and can push off 2 -hydrogen ions which the plant releases as it feeds on mostly positively charged cations in soil. Epsom salt is good for a sudden deficiency, but dolomite lime is a better overall option and has more benefits! Happy gardening!
What effect does dolomitic lime have on ph? My problem here in the Southwest isn't acidity but alkalinity. So I started using sulfur. But even too much of that can be harmful depending on other conditions.
Very good video, very clear and full of useful information. The flash cards are an excellent idea. Thanks. I learned a lot.
Thank you for actually describing how this works for our plants!
i used that on my tomatoes it s true kush plants
Hi Gary: thanks, you are a life saver, I mean a plant saver. I wasn't sure what the purpose of the beer was until you sipped some.

a very great description of what and why things are used for plants, maybe this year my plants will do better.
Gary you are a smart dude so glad I found your channel!
I love the beer! I thought it had something to do with the plants but it's for the gardener! LOL Great info, thanks for your help.
Yep my reward.

That’s what I thought... lol I was like hey there’s a new thing and it involves beer in plants and garden. Lol but low and behold it’s only to hydrate the “Gardener” Hahahaha good stuff.
@@american10twenty you can put beer in a lil mayo lid or something similar and it will kill slugs..
@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Plants gets sustenance; garden gets sustenance. win/win

Gary is that beer you where drinking and if so what kind? Just asking because I like beer too as I garden.
Love the glass of beer!!!
I use it in my hydroponic mix for tomatoes. That part is 6 grams per 5 gallons. Thanks for reminding me to add it to my soil grown tomatoes and peppers.
Good explanation! Thanks!
1crazynordlander Sure. It works well for that extra boost.
once again, thanks a million for going to all the trouble to make such a clear video. so helpful
+THOMAS CAIN You are very welcome
So, let's see if I got this right.
1. Mix 1 tsp of Epson salt with one glass of beer and feed your plants whenever they get thirsty or they just want to loosen up. That will make them happy, right?
2. Well, for this I have to ask: what beer brand must one use?
You got it. That was a Sam Adams.
Oh cool! Thanks for the confirmation. ;)

Hi Gary , thank you for all of your videos they help me out a lot . I have just started gardening and I am excited . I was wondering if you could add Epson salt to compost /worm tea
Hi Gary, you mentioned yellowing of leaves in this video, which reminded me, I have some zucchini I am growing in pots. They started out fine then they started to yellow in the veins first before the whole leaf yellowed. Can you suggest how I might solve this problem. Thanks
Gary! What a great and thorough overview of the benefits of epsom salt in the garden. I am a beginner gardener and really appreciated the info, plus the measuring spoons on a string. You got your system down, sir. Pretty nice arrangement in the frame as well, and a refreshing beer to top it all off. Well done. Looking forward to your other videos.

Very well done.. Great sharing of info. I just bought a 5 lb bag of Epsom Salt... Because I heard it was good for plants. But, I have not used it yet. Plants are in already, so the hole is a opportunity missed. Now, thanks to you... I know. You filled the gaps with needed knowledge... Just what I Needed ! LIKED AND SUBBED.

I think I will do this and a weak solution of MG today. Thanks Gary. Best wishes Bob.
I have been using Epsom salt with everything this year. I have been adding at least a tablespoon to the planting hole. It seems to be working great. Here I live in western ND and I already have been harvesting eggplant and peppers. While I started all of these in the house and moved them into a little greenhouse, they are all outside now and doing great. As of right now, I have over 300 peppers on the vine. I don't know if the Epsom salt was responsible but it didn't hurt anything. I picked this up from watching one of your last year videos. So, I owe you a big Thank You! Keep up these great videos. I am learning a ton from you.
dakotabob10 You are quite welcome. I am glad it worked. The key is not over doing the nurtrients. Sounds like you have it down.
