Saw them as a kid, at the University art department where my mom attended classes, the show included the pipes & balls, putty-masks, etc. That was circa 1980 - lemme tell ya, it had a profound impact on me as a kid, and amoung the young theatre, dance, performance art people who were there you could tell there were a lot of minds completely BLOWN. A very very influential group. And I wonder, in this day when Blue Man Group is a house-hold word, I wonder how many people know of Mummenschanz?
The only reason they say its creepy is cz ppl post random snippets of the shows without context and show them. If u watch it from the start to the end u can see theres context.
I love them so much. Saw them when I was younger, maybe ten or fifteen years ago? It was amazing. Another of their touring shows a couple years ago was not so great, but it's awesome to see them in their prime.
It was their performance on the Muppet show. The music was simply added because it was a children's show, and it might have been a little disturbing without music.
I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS EPISODE OF THE MUPPET SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID, AND I THINK I EVEN SAW THE MUMMENSCHANZ GROUP PERFORM ON OTHER TV SHOWS, WOW THIS SURE BRINGS BACK MEMORIES.
I remember watching them on TV. They did the talk show scene and The Ed Sullivan Show also. I loved them. And miss them. Wish they were still performing.
For those of you who are to young to remember, before there was video games and so much violence on tv this group was a breath of fresh air. Their shows were seen all over the world. Today we have Circ du Soleil. But we had Mum..living puppets. Their costumes were pure genius. I do hope they are still around. Our children would enjoy it.
I, and my wife (at the time), had the great fortune to be on a small boat in The Galapagos with Mummenschanz. My wife snorkeled with them as I was scuba diving. A true thrill, especially for my wife. They performed that night in town (Puerto Ayora) and it will live with me for my remainder.
I remember their performance on the David Letterman show. What passion and performance they had. A fork, spoon, and toilet paper face guy. Their troop leader Gunther was kind enough to talk to Letterman about their performance, Amazing !
My mom used to take me to see them when I was a kid. This was a living art form designed for the imagination. Today's so-called art is static garbage, all unimaginative.

They are just odd, so Jorge decided to add them to his video as filler, and the music, eerie narration and effects on his vid makes everything look creepier than it actually is. It's a joke.
When I was little I found them a little scary & creepy. I only remember scenes that were in the dark and not being sure where their bodies were. That and not speaking made them seem other-worldly, I think. It probably depends on which acts you watch. This one is obviously not too creepy.
Is this the only episode of the Muppet Show on which the guest stars did performances without the Muppets? Not to put down their performance, but I always felt that appearing on the Muppet Show and then performing without Muppets kind of missed the point of the show. But maybe that's just me.

Like the 'muppets' were anything Children should be watching to begin with.. what a heavy mind control agenda to make children soft in that show.
I never know what the X on her mouth is supposed to represent. Is she dead there? I am assuming the arrows represent them sticking their tongues out at each other. and the other feelings are pretty much self-explanatory.
You really have you have very expressive body language to get this kind of thing to work. They did a great job.
In other words be Italian
Pantomime is dead.
@@yosefdemby8792 only if you believe it to be so
@@madam-mint Well at least, _virtually_ so.
I saw this group perform live in the 80's. It was more entertaining that you'd expect.
I saw them in Chicago 70-80s

Not a lot knows about mummenschanz
The emoji movie is looking pretty sweet
at least this one was.
This isnt creepy, its creative
Exactly because this show is showing expressions and body language
I made a poem ahoy this in 7th grade

I think it's possible for something to be both simultaneously.

Uh
The muppet show isn’t just for kids, it’s for everyone
The Muppet Show was a primetime show, not a children's show. Jim Henson wanted it to be for everyone.
Family friendly isn’t the same as kid friendly in my opinion
A pretty good example of creepy things only being creepy cuz of the background music and the other way around
I remember seeing this when I got _The Muppet Show_ season 1 on DVD. Utterly blew my mind with how expressive they were.
saw them live at the theater of st. gallen (switzerland) yesterday...so wonderful

This was kinda cute to watch ngl
Wowee. So well thought out. It boggles my mind how they remember all the sequences. Amazing stuff.
This is undoubtedly the major sample of ingenuity and creativity that I have seen in my life.
Not Mummenschanz! Don't make me watch this! Geneva Convention! GENEVA CONVENTION!

Mummenschanz is still around
It seems today that all you see is violins in movies and sticks on tv
There's actually less violence than there was in history but okay I guess boomer
I remember going to see them as a kid in the 80's and really enjoying their show. Are they still around performing? I'd love to catch them again. :D
I guess no
they are
I've always wanted to either:
1: See the Mummenschanz live
2: Recreate this sketch with my friend.

Well, in this case the black background wouldn't change much. The facial expressions are the most important part. Anyway - a good skit.

I am pretty sure its something related to romance, or a tight friendship. Mostly because of the body move ment, and probably the pictures.
The mumenchanz is amiginzin
i’ve never seen this as a child and im like this is weird not creepy tho
Think of it as a socially awkward guy who meets a girl.
I never know what the X on her mouth is supposed to represent. Is she dead there? I am assuming the arrows represent them sticking their tongues out at each other. and the other feelings are pretty much self-explanatory.
She wants a smooch
The arrows first mean pointing up to kiss her, and his pointing down at his 8==D
Okay this was actually funny for me, am I weird?
Hahaha I get that reference. Also what the hell is this?
