  • GHOSTLIGHT Chorus: Troester - Mondnacht I & II
Evelyn Troester DeGraf, Founder & Artistic Director
The Mondnacht collection was composed by Evelyn Troester DeGraf in 2011.
Recorded in July 2012 on GHOSTLIGHT's Joy Tour to Germany, in Troester's hometown of Bamberg.
Mondnacht I is based on the famous poem "Mondnacht" by Joseph von Eichendorff and the American Folk Tune Homeward Bound. Beginning and ending are completely improvised, and for the final chorus of Homeward Bound, the audience even gets to join in!
    Mondnacht II
Troester takes one of Germany's most beloved folk songs "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" and sets its melody into a beautiful, homophonous chorale that follows the freely improvised and serene ending of Mondnacht I. At the end of the recording, the chorus encircles and creates a sound bath for the audience.

What a beautiful choral triptych. Each part is lovely, but all three together are quite sublime. Many choirs have sung versions of Homeward Bound, but not many have done or heard the complex variations on Homeward Bound that is at the heart of this work.

I am very excited this is up on youtube now. I supported the Ghostlight to Deutschland kickstarter and really love the composition. AH I just saw this was on that tour. Wow, I really wish I could've been there. Thanks for posting.
