For this to happen, the lack of care is insane, are the councils just taking the money and pocketing it or are they legit just fixing potholes???? If I were a councilman or an MP, I’d really consider the longevity of your own lives because incidents like this will kill people… and we know you guys aren’t paying for maintenance.
It's nothing to do with the council you plum. It used to be properly funded by central government, but the Tories transferred the majority of the assets and liabilities to the Canals and Rivers trust in 2012. They get a grant from government but the value of that has decreased in real terms so it is funded by selling off its assets slowly...
DOH . the canal and rivers trust, its a charity NOTHING to do with council , a culverted stream failed and washed away the canal bed, more to do with global warming and torrential rain than any council

It appears from looking at maps and the video the culverted stream that ran under the canal may have failed which undermined the canal bed breaking the clay seal, allowing water to flow out resulting in a catastrophic failure of the earth embankment through washout, is my guess. Constructed 260 years go like much of the canal network maintaining the canal itself is only part of the system that needs to be maintained.
I also took a look at Google maps and it appears the river Bollin is slightly north of the collapsed canal. The river runs on the Northside of what looks like a sewage treatment plant. I hope it gets the funding required for a timely repair.
Yeah sloppy British workmanship..... I mean its only lasted 275 Years...... the Dutch have had their Dykes break.... about four times in that same period. 👍

THEY DONT EVEN FIX THE POTHOLES EITHER FFS
I've heard this canal or at least section of canal is owned by Peel Holdings

If the Dutch built this it wouldn't have burst.

@@youknownothing8226 Ahaaaa , ... thanks 4 the explanation 🙂
Don't be rude it was built in 1761 what would the Dutch do stick a thumb in it 🤔
@@youknownothing8226 because 275 years ago alot of the dutch landscape didn't exist then because it was water... know your hisorie.
Wow! I'm just glad I wasn't there when that happened.
Very expensive for peel holdings and for the canal boat people who's mooring fees will probably sky rocket 🚀
That canal failed due woeful maintenance. Doesn’t take an engineer to work it out either.
Go on then. Explain it like an engineer then? We can pretend there's been no flooding and unlimited funds.
Call The Netherlands for help. They'll have that fixed up in no time
I say call in the chinese they will have it back up and running by next weekend
Don’t worry, Starmer will take control and put everything right…….once he gets back from his holiday.
Could I get my kayak down there?
Carnt tame Mother Nature
Peel Holdings certainly can't
Yes but what are the doing about it and when will they start ……….anyone ….?

shame the council didn’t have enough wonga left over to get things sorted & take care of bu$iness after their pension funds were covered
C&RT. Where are you?
Its not a CRT waterway!
They don't manage it 😂.... But that didn't stop you....
Privately owned canal. Nothing to do with CRT!
Blame it on the far right
