Touhou 16: HSiFS - Illusionary White Traveler (Stage 4 Theme) [YM2612, Deflemask]

The moment I heard this song, it really moved me to tears, and I knew I had to cover it in pseudo PC-98 style. I absolutely love this song so much. The other Touhou 16 tracks are also quite great as well! The entire OST sounds like it was made for PC-98-esque arrangements, and it surprisingly works well. I ditched the default drums that the PC-98 uses and tried the SSG drums from PMD, and I have to say, they sound much better.
Though, this is possibly the hardest arrangement I've ever done. (And other future HSiFS arranges.) ZUN really went all out with advanced harmonies and chords for the whole OST, which are really hard to transcribe (even for trained ears) because they are actually dissonant, but they're not noticable because of his mixing. It's really tricky to get all the notes right, and I'm not even sure myself if this is accurate. Oh well, this is the best I can do.
By the way, how does the new layout look? Most of the visuals are inspired from various MIDI arrangements (Williatico, ShinkoNetCavy, Mana Kazami), and oscilloscope videos (RushJet, Rolf Bakke).

I was searching about converting YM2608 music to YM2612 and found this video. Good job! I'm glad to see that FM and SSG instruments can be ported loselessly from PC98 to Genesis. These SSG drums are clearly Zun's :)
Now what would be nice to see is a music sacrifying the 6th FM channel for PCM and trying to play some of the Rhytm Channels samples from the YM2608 to make it sounds even more like a true PC98 touhou music. I guess some Touhou PC98 songs used on of the FM channels for echo with another channel so it might be possible to make some sacrifice. But that's just an idea.

The pc 98 soundfont always sounded so iconic.

No soundfonts are used, though. The instruments are taken from the games themselves, and you can play this on a SEGA Genesis.

Anyway, I've never heard the original but this sounds great! I also like the visualizations, looks much better than SidWiz alone.

The original is worth a listen, and thank you! Yeah, it does, since SidWiz alone would be boring anyway. Though, I can't take full credit for the visualizations since Williatico uses this format for his MIDI arrangements.
