Why does Ray strike with a circle... Maybe if he didn't give the fish line with all that striking it wouldn't have cut him of

I usually give bigger fish chance to actually swallow the bait or at least maneuver it into the ideal position for you so that the circle can work effectively by pulling into the corner of the mouth after tightening the drag. Personally I wack bigger non Ed's properly expecially fishing thicker gauge hooks(demon heavy for example) to ensure the hook gets worked through after working it into the corner by tightening drag) Light tackle and smaller target species result in smaller thinner gauge hooks, so by tightening drag and lifting the rod usually does the job. (Not gonna smack a cob on a 6/0 gamakatsu like a bronze on a 12//0 demon heavy circle.) My 2 cents
