All except Bahamas, patterned their Carnival from Trinidad and Tobago, especially Jamiaca. Then Toronto, Nottinghill, Miami ... all exported from Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad definitely gets top spot. The basis of Carnival and the many variations have been a celebration of emancipation or the slaves wanting to have their own celebrations that mimicked the Europeans or made fun of them. Our Jonkunoo happens in Christmas or at Independence time, but has been dying out, its nothing like the Bahamas but more based on fictional characters and masks. Loved this one fam! 💛💚🖤
Trinidad and Tobago carnival is definitely the best in the Caribbean and according to the Huffington Post is the best in the world. It is far ahead of the other islands. Trinidad and Tobago the land where calypso, soca, steel pan and limbo were invented
Lol @ the Huffington Post
I'm Trinidadian. It's the only country on the planet that shuts down for two (2) entire days. FACTS!!!!
And then there's another carnival in South America's largest nation that shuts down for 5-6 days
COVID was the biggest show on earth
As someone else said, Trini carnival is not two days, it's a whole season
The two days are the main fetes (parties), the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
As soon as Christmas done, soca and calypso starts playing and people start their carnival fetes and limes (hangouts).
We have kidies carnival, panorama (steel pan band competition), Jouvert (the beginning of the 2 days), Extempo and Calypso contest/concert and even our own Mardis Gras.
Trini carnival has impacted how many other Caribbean countries celebrate and other cultures have impacted ours also.
So if y'all would like to come, I don't think you have to feel concious of how you look if your big or small, tall or short
But if the big fetes aren't your thing we have many more fully-clothed activities
But the actual street carnival is still 2 days.
@@FuShengAlex Yep, I didn't deny that
But the two days are only one part of what carnival is to us
Trinidad carnival will change your life it will develop your mind free thinkers , boost your confidence, get you fit in shape, it’s a celebration festival with a feeling of emancipation, liberation.
freedom ,unity, immense joy and happiness altogether . Not to mention the exotic food and drinks.Go see for yourself don’t take he say, she say for it.
I went and i disagree.
If you live in a city that's heavy populated Caribbean people then Trinidadian carnival is just an extension of what you experience year round.
In short all Carnivals that happens before lent ( before ash Wednesday) are the real Carnival. So Trinidad and Tobago, New Orleans, Brazil, Haiti, Dominica etc are hundreds of years old. All other Carnivals outside of the lent religious season are created for tourist marketing, they started in the last fifty years or so.
St Lucia used to have it at the same time as Trinidad and the rest they only changed theirs in the 90s for tourism.
That's not all the way true
It's o ly now That crop over is more of a tourist attraction
our carnival season is similar to Trinidad but still every diffierent ❤🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧💯
Don’t forget the ones of lusophone Africa
Yes, TnT 's Carnival is the best
IN THE WORLD!!
Trinidad and Tobago we are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🇹🇹🇹🇹
Agreed. Barbados Crop Over festival is second only to Trinadad in the Carribean in terms of a great carnival vibes, local music events, food, activities and tourist involvement. It is the celebration of the end of the harvesting of the sugar cane crop. Therefore, crop over.
trinidad carnival is going on rn. must say that i did miss it since we didn’t have any during covid. just yesterday (sunday) was when communities host kiddies carnivals so kids parade around in their costumes 🥳 20th and 21st are carnival monday and tuesday which are the days people parade around the capital
I can't believe they leave St Maarten out come on we have 3 weeks of activity. JUMP UP, 2 days parade, the carnival village, and so much more fun . Please come to our carnival next April.❤
I was a small child in The Bahamas, back in the mid 1970's, and going to Junkanoo on Boxing Day is one of my earliest memories. Good times.
Trinbago carnival is also called "The Greatest Show on Earth"... I ❤ my sweet, sweet T&T!
Called that according to Trinis of course!
@@FuShengAlexwhat's your fnk problem. It's the best carnival in world and definitely didn't take any inspiration from that sh*t show of a city Las Vegas. Now take that and smoke it on yuh pipe. Oh BTW HYMC!
😂😂😂😂
And Barbados is called the sweetnest summer Festival
@@rawhenrnhNo....not Las Vegas but TT especially their bikini mas took inspiration from Rio. TT best carnival in the world? Nah not so. Cope and keep crying 😂
Trinidad and Tobago carnival is the mecca of all carnivals
Not true. That's a cute marketing slogan though 😂
@@FuShengAlex who is then lol
@@mattboss6875 it's more truthful say its the Mecca for some/many carnivals
@@FuShengAlex lol yall funny who is answer me
@@mattboss6875 No one solitary country can make such a preposterous claim for carnivals worldwide. Especially something that loosely dates back to the Middle Ages before Trinidad even existed.
It's better to say Trinidad is the mecca of Caribbean carnivals worldwide even though some out there dispute that as well.
Its nice to see Carnaval over the world. In Europe there are also a lot countries celebrating. The original carnaval dates in February) March and summer carnaval in the Netherlands in July and Nothing hill carnaval in the UK. I love to visit all of these places. 💃🧉🥃🥃🍷🍾🥂🍻🍺🍹. Greetings from the Netherlands
all imma say is if u wanna participate in trinidad carnival 2024, start booking your flights and accommodations now lol the season is around 2 months average(next yr is 6 weeks) but most tourists come for a week or so
Am always curious to hear AA opinions about our culture.Thank you guys for sharing this video, we appreciate our brothers and sisters in the diaspora and welcome you to the caribbean.
Loved this reaction❤ As someone who has been to Marci Gras but am of Bajan descent, You will see the similarities but feel a similar sense of freedom, the feeling of liberation can not be compared. I suggest with prices and planning to plan 8 months to a year out because it can get pricey for sure. Hope to see the footage!
Almost all carnival's end by ash Wensday or start two-three months after lent FYI I'm from Trinidad and Tobago.
I haven't has a chance to go to the islands during carnival but one day. We have Caribana here in Toronto every summer yall might like that. It's basically carnival but with all carribean countries partying together.
Not what it used to be.
Grenada has the most unique and hypest carnival....Respect to all soca but nothing can't beat Grenada's jab music...
U should do a video with Trinidad carnival alone , they didn't show case it properly .
St.vincent may not have the extravagant, displays, or costumes. But I guarantee you vincentians party the hardest 🇻🇨🙌🏾💃
When ur buying ticket for carnival in trinidad buy your tickets and book ur hotel from so u can get it cheap
There is a group of people in Louisiana called the gulluh (not sure of the spelling) people who speak a dialect that sounds so similar to other dialects across the Lesser Antilles. I am confident that Mardi Gra is a cultural thing that travelled from the Caribbean to the United States during the slave trade as a lot of Africans were taken to the Caribbean to be "broken" before their forced transportation to the United States.
We feel it in our DNA because it's one of the few positive experiences our ancestors had in the west.
Are you talking about Louisiana Creoles? The Gullah Geeche is from the Carolinas-Georgia-Florida coast, not Louisiana. Although Mardi Gras is a carnival, it does not share the same history as the Caribbean carnivals. Mardi Gras originated in Europe. We just created our own celebrations and culture here.
www.mardigrasneworleans.com/history/
@@TheDemouchetsREACT carinval in the Caribbean came from Europe as well
Caribbean slaves been going to America since the 1600 mostly from Jamaica and Barbados
Yeah it but they saying is that with Mardi Gras they did the same thing we in the caribbean did wirh our carnival season we made it our own
just how all caribbean carnival season diffierent times of the year
We in Barbados have our carnival season in the summer the first monday in August ❤🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧
Just scrolled through the comments, and it shocking that after all the struggles people can still be divided on a crap issue. and ignore that irrespective of the best, original, or favorite; it's. the same trip on the same ship.
Exactly 💯
They always forget about us in curaçao, like we exits too 🇨🇼 😂
Apparently you can’t be Caribbean unless you speak French or English
The info about Jamaica has some incorrect info, Jamaica carnival started in the 1950s by students from the Eastern Caribbean. Who were studying at the University of the West Indies, to bring a piece of their culture to UWI/Jamaica.
It was titled 'campus carnival', which is still held every year at the University of the West Indies. The first official Jamaica carnival was in 1990, previous years was really hosted by the university. But from the 50s to now it attracts up to 20k people
Hey I’m from Saint Kitts and Nevis! We have a lovely culture! We should most def be higher on this list but happy for the recognition.🙏🏾❤️
Trinidad then Grenada second
Trinidad and Tobago carnival is the original .All the others are copies but good copies.
YOU DUN KNOW!!
The Dominicana carnaval is beautiful
He got the number one right lol TnT
You should do a video reaction to nila blackman and skinny fabulous 2023 soca song (come home) watch the original vudeo to the end it has a great crowd rendition to the very end of the video
Trinidad is number one yes 🇹🇹🇹🇹
Sorry I am bias but my country Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 is the BEST! The Mother of all carnival through out the diaspora!
You are right, there is no comparison. The other island pale in comparison to Trinidad and Tobago carnival. The huffington post rank it as the best in the world.
YOU TELL NO LIES GIRL !! TRINBAGO CARNIVAL THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!! "SWEET SWEET T&T". TRIN!BAGO TO THE WORLD!
In order to make the best carnival in the carribbean, you must travel all not just popular countries in the carribbean, there are better carnival than some of the islands mentioned.
Love you guys Barbados 🇧🇧
Carnval was brought from the french aristocrat settlers. The had masquerade balls. Then on Ash Wednesday, they go and receive their ashes on their foreheads
And they they bought their slaves from the French Caribbean Islands, they had a lot of contribution too.
Trinidad carnival is the mother of Caribbean carnival also in Nottinghill Toronto Labour Day Miami
Okay, I 'm gonna make a statement here.Tell me something , every island has a carnival, by extension, North America, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Germany. All have small pockets of Trini carnival, but why isn't it as big and grand us ours here in Trinidad?
I'm going to answer that, it's the people, from young it's instill into our cultural heritage, its taught in schools, steelpan, wire bending, moko jumbies, blue devils etc..we eat and breathe it..
It's part of our country's economic revenue.
It's a 365-day a year, production and without us the citizens, it can never be ranked the number one carnival in the world. In essence, it can have a million carnivals. Unless you don't have Trinis, it's going to be just another dull and boring street parade 😴
Also, carnival is not a public holiday. However, we, the citizens, have taken it upon ourselves to shut the country down for 2 entire days and stay home.. without the government telling us to do so 😊.. now that's the spirit 😅
To each their own. Trinidad s road mas looks mostly lacking in energy. And I felt that way there as well during carnival. A nice lime...but nothing overly outlandish.
Great video. I’m a bit sad that the Spanish Islands and USVI were completely omitted. You cannot say Caribbean without mentioning those islands. They have carnivals as well. Blessings 🙏🏽
Most of those Carnivals are Mardi Gras but some moved theirs to different dates because they couldn't compete with Trinidad and most of them copied Trinidad style of Carnival
And Trinidad has elements from other islands ie Guadeloupe and Martinique.
@@lonalxaia
When you look at Carnival from earlier decades it was very different most started imitating Trinidad because it was the most popular
@@whoahna8438except Guadeloupe and Martinique didn't have Carnival for decades and that's a fact they have jab molasses and they didn't get it from Trinidad.
@@lonalxaia
They may not have gotten it from Trinidad but if you think all of the countries developed the same characters independently you're foolish. Anyway Carnival is a Catholic tradition brought to the Western Hemisphere by the Portuguese, Spanish and French
@@whoahna8438 you said most copied Trinidads style. Some did some didn't.
No the two original Carnivals were Trinidad and Tobago and St Vincent and the Grenadines. I have had to do research on this recently. Jamaica is NOT a traditional Carnival Island. Their Carnival began in 1990.
Trinidad and tobago where it all started.
and the carnival of curaçao

For cheaper prices book a year or two in advance.
How is Dominica not a part of this list? This list needs a reboot
This list is not accurate, st lucian not even on the list 😢
Yeah this list is definitely not accurate at all, Lucia is top 5
We are the cebonies Arawak carif lucayan Taino and galiby
This is random but, has anyone else ever gotten hit with a whip during madi gras week? I'm Haitian by the way. 😭
No😂
It makes sense that the caribbean carnivals have such a connection to slavery, caribbean people are on the islands because they're descentants of africans who were put there during slavery
Not all of the Caribbean had Carnival. Some were only recent.
Yep carnival is for when the slaves were set free
Did we react to any of your requests yet?
In slaved people
It’s connection to colonialism is basically white Europeans from France and Italy brought carnival to their colonies in the Caribbean hundreds of years ago. Over time the slaves started partaking in carnival as well. Eventually changing it to fit more of their slave afro-centric roots. Most colorful artistic elements were thanks to these slaves.
Also, Mardi Gras and carnival are the same thing. It’s ALL carnival. Notice they all happen in Feb, with come countries who have changed their day to move away from more popular carnival days in Feb/March.
Love the reaction.. are any of you west indian?
Thanks! No.
You guys are adorable
Ok let me say this we Jamaican don’t celebrate carnival for those foolishness we just celebrate it because it’s fun and it’s just a normal event
What the hell these other island doing death slave etc 🤦🏾
Great reaction...could you react to jamaican patwa not English
NAA,patois is overrated.
buddy you haven't experienced trinidad carnival yet you will see i could put my paycheck on it!!
Is it me or does there seem to be a separation from the Spanish speaking Caribbean vs English/French/creole speaking Caribbean because carnival is also huge in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic yet they were not included on this so called Caribbean list
Nonesense carnival has been happening in Jamaica lonf before Gilbert!
Haiti make me think if the voodoo festival in Benin 🤔🤔
Voodoo in Haïti has its origin in Benin
The bikini, feathers and beads costumes were copied from Las Vegas showgirls and frontline masqueraders from Rio carnival in Brazil.
Yep. The so called mother of all carnivals in trinidad choses to draw inspiration from a carnival elsewhere.
Lol Bahamians put their faces to hide their identity wrong they are the ancient lucayans
11:02 #4 🇯🇲 carnival is not supported "throughout the island". It's mostly supported by the "uptown" well off financially Jamaicans. There's a large swathe of Jamaicans you'll find that have 0 interest in Soca/carnival culture and are fiercely loyal to reggae.
#1 15:27.....🇹🇹 extremely overpriced experience and has become a tourist trap. Over exorbitant prices to play mas and "fetes" that cost 100s of US dollars per night.
I can guarantee you're Jamaican. Just sad, allyuh does share d same script 😢
@Unison ummm no I'm not. I can guarantee you're definitely one of these "Trini to de bone/God is ah Trini" Trinidadians though 😆
Where in de world would everybody like the same things! Carnival is not for everyone or everyone's pocket! People would like a once in a lifetime experience and they're going to do it! I've known AA, Europeans, Australians, Canadians, even nationals of Arab countries whom I've worked with abroad, visited the islands and experienced the different Carnivals! Some saving money to come experience an Island Carnival..
Everyone wouldn't like reggae, soca or calypso music either! I've travelled to most of those islands and countries that got Carnivals worldwide..Each is unique and got it's upside and downside! I wouldn't paint everything or everyone with a wide brush! What's exorbitant to some, won't be to others! All depending on their reasons for being there! I live both in the Caribbean and the United States and lots of my friends enjoys the Carnival experiences as they've continuously returned..Bringing their friends and relatives in tow! It's much needed tourism revenue for most of these islands as they're not all blessed with natural resources to compete with larger economies on a global scale! Every sphere of life and activity will have a critic.. Carnivals are not immune!
Exactly 💯 growing up in the 70s and 80s jamaican had no idea Carnival existed.
Yet, a bunch of Jamaicans does flood Trinidad for carnival
Brazil has the biggest carnival. Grenada has the most decorated and attract the most visitors during carnival. Trinidad was never colonized so it cannot claim carnival. St Vincent was never colonized so how do they have Carnival. Europe has Halloween which deals with spirits of the dead. So how this is colonialism. People just make up things when they do not know African history. According to the law of God to Moses this should be kept for times per year.
Jab Jab originated in Grenada
@@sandrahudson1950 we know that and so does carnival as per the Caribbean. Every other nations does it from tourism a way to make money but they have no idea where it comes from or the meaning.
@@doreenramsey1016 which part of African history do you know most of? Do you know of the Amazigh tribes history?
@@lonalxaia all of it. These people are Arabs aka Fulanis who took Caucasians back to Africa after Spain Portugal and Italy fell to Caucasians in the 1800. And so they produce a mulatto race like Libya and Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Got it? This land you called north Africa is actually west Africa. As you can see it borders Spain in the west . It belongs to Canaan as his inheritance but he went an settled in Hamath Palestine.
@@lonalxaia do you even heard about Lidia, Libya, Dedan and Sheba? Well they are Keturah seeds who are brothers to Ethiopians and Eritreans. Don't you see some of you resemble them only lighter? Yes they are Arabs who invaded Europe as well and took Caucasians back to Africa as sex partners to be discreet.
