    Thanks, a very useful video and saved me losing that 3rd set screw down into the door itself. I simply cut a cardboard loo roll tube into a smaller diameter and shorter tube to stop the set screw dropping down and used the tube again to re-insert the screw when re-installing the new mirror unit. New aftermarket £25 unit off e-bay fitted fine. My 17-year old son will be pleased when he gets home and hopefully he won't knock it off again!

    These instructions were invaluable to me when changing my drivers mirror. Also agree about the Haynes manual not being terribly helpful. I solved the 'middle' screw problem of it dropping into the door by making a tube out of thin card. After sliding the tube in place, I marked the tube so it was level with the panel. I then put four cuts in the tube down to the mark, put the tube back in and then using masking tape, taped the four strips to the panel so the tube could not move out. A little 'blue Tack' was put inside the socket so the screw would stick to it and then unscrewed without loss. Repeated the procedure in reverse to put the screw back in. Thanks again for your help Gavin.

    Thanks for this video. The bit about making sure the screw doesn't fall into the bodywork really helped me.

    A very useful video, thank you! We just changed ours in about 5 minutes after watching this. You probably saved us about an hour of trying to work it out :)

    Thank you for this. Although I probably would have worked it out this video speeded up the process. 10mm socket set at the ready. I also managed to save three bolts thanks to your hint. 30 mins later one new drivers mirror. I popped both of the plugs and had no problem fitting them back. If they break they are only a few pence to replace. Yes, I bought mine from Ebay as well. About £22 so hardly a sweat. They delivered next day as well. I fitted mine before it started raining...wait for it....

    Thanks, a very informative tutorial for a novice. I agree the Haynes manual was pretty poor for such a common problem.

    Great video mate. ive just had to replace mine after somone kicked my drivers side off.
    Oh and the same thing happened to me with that third screw lol
    You'd think they would put some sort of ledge there to catch it, or make it just fall into the panel of the door and not the actual structure of the door.

    Why would you cut out the actual doing of the steps...

    • @unclegreybeard3969
      @unclegreybeard3969 5 лет назад +2

      Obviously, the guy needs 2 hands for the actual doing of each step and therefore cannot operate the camera at the same time.
      It probably never occurred to him to mount the camera in a viable position so that he could record the actual doing.
      But, like you, I too came to see the actual doing and was disappointed.

    Taking off the cover is NOT as simple as you say. "Pry round the sides with a flathead screwdriver and it simply pops off". I tried "simply" prying round with a screwdriver and simply ended up with unsightly dent marks on the edges of the cover. Tried prying some more and the cover simply broke off its latches. This advice is simply not good enough. Very disappointing from what is otherwise a very good video.

    • @gavinhema
      @gavinhema  9 лет назад

      FatFilipinoUK Hi, sorry to hear about that. The flathead I was using was pretty small come to think of it, but I didn't experience the issues your describing. Should I remake the video I will certainly warn viewers of what you experienced. Is there an alternative way you would like to suggest to get creating dent marks?

    • @FatFilipinoUK
      @FatFilipinoUK 9 лет назад

      +Gavin Grossman I do not know what to do to avoid the dent marks. When I tried to pry around the sides, the cover would simply re-sit itself back onto the latches. When I tried to use more force, a dent mark would be left on the cover and it STILL would re-sit itself and not want to come off. When I used even more force, the thing just broke off completely. I have now seen other people do this with no problems, so I don't know if maybe I just had an unusually tight fitting cover.
