    Honestly, this rig is well put together, and in most cases I would prefer to the BMCC 4K cause WHO ACTUALLY NEEDS 4K.

    BMMCC user too. Going to try your lut, I’m also not convinced by the standard monitoring lut. You should try the 8sinn side handle, it’s amazingly confortable and well worth the price (you can get it cheaper if you write to them about their b stock). As for cards you might want to try the 128 and 256 (full size) Kingston Canvas React, they work for raw and prores just like the extreme pros, haven’t tried other sizes. The other two accessories I’d recommend would be the onelittlegoat remote and rawlite’s olpf

      Angel Diaz let me know how you like the lut. I can’t live without it. Thanks for recommending the handle, smallrig just came out with a new one that might be worth checking out!

    The Micro Cinema Camera breakout cable input 11V minimum and the input can take up to 20V max.
    The battery plate has a max input voltage of 10v
    The camera draws 6 watts max

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  4 года назад

      Thanks for clarifying, possibly the CGPro Breakout box allows a different minimum input than the cable.

      @@TheAnimistOfficial I just got the answer from Blackmagic. Me too wants to power my BMMCC with one battery. There seems to be mini V-mount batteries (14 Volt) who can power my monitor and my BMMCC. The only drawback is that you have to be aware about ground loops. First power camera and monitor, and then HDMI mount! It seems that reversing the process could burn HDMI ports.

      I would like to fix the mini V-mount battery directly on the the rig without the need of rods. But there seems no convenient cheeseplates available.

I'm not sure if the holes will line up how you want it but all you would have to do is run a dtap splitter out of the battery into the Breakout Box and one into the monitor: amzn.to/3kOVMZq

    Thank you @TheAnimist for taking the time to do a 2nd video - it is very much appreciated! A few comments and questions:
    1. I have stumbled across a problem people are having with newer SD cards (specifically UHS-II, which I know you're not using), but also with the V30 cards. This has been reported on Black Magic forums, and people are advising to use the (now rare) UHS-I non-V30 cards. Do you know anything about this V30 issue, and have you tried shooting on 60FPS in raw with this V30 card?
    2. I am still confused with the external battery solution, in terms of making a decision. The sparks issue makes me apprehensive to buy this, as well as a host of negative reviews on Amazon regarding the Talent Cell's capacity. Are there any alternative (similar priced) solutions that you know of - what about RavPower, or anything else?
    3. As this is my first EVER camera for filming - I am buying everything at once, and now I have reached the issue of lenses which took a lot of online research. I don't want to jump into the quite expensive Speedbooster + Tokina (11-16) just yet, although I know I will have to sooner or later because of the BMMCC crop factor. Instead, as a beginner, I am thinking about vintage Russian lenses like Mir 12mm that are cheaper when purchased used. Do you know much about these? I am hoping that this solution for now will help me learn, and also I can still shoot without the Speedbooster. Will I still be able to get decent 35mm FOV equivalent images with an adaptor?
    Keep up the great work!

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад

      All my V30s have worked, usually you can go on amazon and search that exact card. It will say it’s discontinued but 3rd party sellers are listed with prices still. Also the micro V10 is an option but only goes as high as HQ 60P, if you nail your white balance you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference unless you zoomed in 200%.
      2. I haven’t ever seen a spark once since I got it last January. I’ve even plugged it in wrong as stated and nothing happened but I understand your hesitation, I felt the same way. Also any reviews about capacity are probably using them on laptops which sounds like a crap storm waiting to happen. Something as small as the Micro couldn’t drain that battery in a day if it tried. An alternative is the juice box battery for the original BMCC. It’s thinner and taller so it looks goofy rigged IMO but is designed for BMD cameras.
      3. The tokina with a dummy adapter set to 11mm will be spot on a 35mm FOV on a full frame. I experimented with budget 12mm primes and 14mm primes and before getting the tokina and none of them really made me happy with how they looked. However Olympus make some great wide zooms that are gorgeous but cost twice as much as the Tokina

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад

      Syed Khoja the great thing about the tokina it’s one of the most useful lenses with a dummy adapter while you save for the metabones and once you get the metabones it still will be very useful. When working with this crop factor not many lenses will be useful before AND after a speedbooster, you’ll end up buying a lens for a couple months and having to sell it to get a new focal length after the speedbooster.

      @@TheAnimistOfficial Thanks again for your replies and advice. What you're saying makes sense - right now I've seen these trio of Kiev 16U Russian lenses on sale, and a used tokina 11-16 - maybe I should buy all of them, as I understand the Tokina will be the most flexible to use, and the others I can play with to get a more vintage look?
      Could you elaborate on what you mean by a dummy adapter and what it is exactly called (brand name)/where I can find one?

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад

      Syed Khoja if it’s online you can request a photo to be taken using the lens and inspect the photo. It was my first used lens over $100 so I was worried as well. If your buying it in person, bring a camera body to attach it too and look through the view finder to inspect for issues. Facebook Marketplace has hidden gems on it all the time depending on where you live

    • @syedkhoja4616
      @syedkhoja4616 5 лет назад

      Also two questions about the Tokina:
      1.
      Is it a problem buying second hand lenses in general - I'm just concerned about dust, and whether it is practical or expensive to clean them? Are there any other issues with 2nd hand Tokina lenses to watch out for when buying off ebay?
      2. Is it possible to use Tokina 11-16mm WITHOUT Speedbooster and achieving 32mm - 46mm equivalent FOV, as well as WITH Speedbooster and achieving 19-28mm equivalent FOV on the same short film/project without affecting it's look. Or, are we limited to having to use the Speedbooster throughout a project, once it is put on in order to preserve the look?

  • @syedkhoja4616
    @syedkhoja4616 5 лет назад +2

    @The Animist - Thank you for all your replies. Here's an update and hopefully you can advise me (keeping in mind, I'm a total beginner!)
    1. Bought the 11-16 Tokina Lens, but it seems to be blurry. Image is only sharp at 16mm 0.3m on the lens setting. Does this mean I have a broken lens?
    2. I bought the cinegear pro breakout box and remote controller - but when I press the angle button marked on the remote, it changes the white balance. Should I send it back? It seems the markings on the box are not consistent with what function it does!
    3. Is this camera supposed to record audio just as it comes? I thought it had an internal mic and tried to record some video with me just speaking, the audio levels go up, when I play back I can't hear anything. This is a dumb question, but do I need something else, like a mic and a speaker? or should I be able to record and play without any external devices connected?
    I'm just trying to figure out if everything is working properly or not...

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад +1

      1. how blurry are we talking? send me some screenshots via Instagram DMs at iamtheanimist (i might know what it is)
      2. Which remote did you get? I haven't used on but its possible it needs to be configured so I would call the manufacturer or search tutorials on that remote, if its the One Little Remote, the creator is really responsive and makes content on YT.
      3. The camera does record audio. go into your audio menu on the cam and make sure you have the input set to camera. if its set to line in or MIC it will only record from a plugged in source.

      1. Cool - I will DM you some shots on Instagram
      2. This is the one from Cinegear Pro - I've emailed them and awaiting a response.
      3. Audio is a concern. The input is set to camera, the audio levels/meters do change when I speak or clap my hands, BUT when I play back something I have recorded on the camera (while the SD card is in the camera) - I hear nothing, but I can see the audio levels fluctuating. What could this be? Should playback have audio on it too - or do I need to use my computer to listen to audio. Really concerned about this.

    Thanks again for doing this. I'm on the hunt for a a bmpcc speedbooster as well. For some reason I am not getting infinity on my Tokina, but not sure if it's the lens itself or how it's sitting on the mount - when I lightly press up on the lens the image becomes sharper. Q . How do you mount the mic for handheld?

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад

      David Simpson on your tokina there’s a chance it’s your adapter and a flange distance. Have you been able to get infinity focus with the tokina on a camera with the tokinas native mount type? For the mic I rarely ever mount it but if I do I use an articulating arm threaded into the cage with a cold shoe mount

    Hey,
    I was wondering if the camera has the option to shoot raw 60p, not the compressed 3:1 raw version but actuall raw. Also does it shoot raw at 30p again as the uncompressed one that bmpcc has? How do you like the camera so far...? Many say its a hassle due to the buttons at the front and the menu that you have to dive in constantly in order to change the settings. Do you use it for run and gun situations most of the time? Great video btw 😊

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  4 года назад +1

      Hey Mike, I believe it does 60p uncompressed RAW. I love the camera but recently sold it since I got the Ursa Mini 4.6k and don't do multi cam shoots. The hassle of the buttons is not that bad. You get efficient pretty quickly and only really use it to change frame rate or white balance (or ISO if you dont stick to the native). Occasionally used it for run and gun but mostly used it for prepped production.

      @MikeKalLive 4 года назад

      @@TheAnimistOfficial Thanks for the info buddy 😊 Much appreciated! Do you by any chance know if it has the same middle gray graph as the pocket? I can't find anywhere that info but since they got the same 16mm sensor and ISO'S i guess the highlights and shadows must be similar. For instance the pocket has its native iso at 800 with 5 stops of highlights and 8 shadows, is that the same for the micro? Sorry for the bombardment of questions but since you were an owner i have high hopes that you might know 😅 Hope you make some creative stuff with the ursa mini! Great buy and hope you the best to get some good clients!

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  4 года назад +1

      @@MikeKalLive Of course. As far as I am aware the only difference between the pocket and the micro is just the body and the ability to shoot 60p (which is probably processor related) so all sensor specs should be identical.

    @The Animist The cable 'issue' and the super-fast charging with the TalentCell to the Camera has filled me with doubt. Can you suggest the correct, alternative (to what comes with the battery) cable to use to connect the 12V battery to the camera so that everything is regulated correctly. This is my first camera and I'm just scared this battery will blow everything up or something! I would be grateful if you could post a link on amazon/other for the correct cable. Thank you

    • @TheAnimistOfficial
      @TheAnimistOfficial  5 лет назад

      Syed Khoja the thing is a standard 12v input is 2.5mm, the reason the 9v is a 2.1mm diameter I believe. A 2.1mm should fit in both but cables don’t regulate the electricity at all. My point would be if you have 12v output, no matter what cable your using, no more than 12v would be running through the cable. My theory of why it charges faster is because native battery chargers for the LP-E6 are probably designed to charge slower so you get longer battery life in general. A quick charge leads to a quick drain.
