Gustavus Adophus or Gustav II Adolf was a Swedish king. He joined the ongoing war in the Holy romen empire between catholics and protestants. The war lasted for 30 years between 1618 to 1648. He is the king that started Sweden's rise to becoming a great power of Europe and he is also called the father or modern warfare as some of his tactics is still used today. He also made reforms in Sweden that was very forward thinking for the times like giving the peasants greater autonomi and encouraged education. He laid the foundation for what is now the University of Tartu in Estonia. General Patton is said to have been a fan of him and in Minnesota there is a Gustavus Adolphus Collage.

nothing much came from it though to be honest, he ended up like down in Turkey or something, but the war strategy as is mentioned is still taught in war school, maybe, pretty outdated by now tho. The 100 years war was a very fluid thing , what is more interesting to me is the way spain and portugal were so heavily involved in wars in Germany .. It's so hard to fathom today but it was a crazy time in Europe, total civil war in the mainland.really due to the collapse of society, which we are starting to witness again today.

@@CorTec you are thinking about a different king, Karl the 12th. Gustavus Adolphus died on the battlefield in Germany. Sweden gained lots of new territory and riches and became an empire.

@@CorTec Well from a religious perspective both Portugal and Spain I assume was invested in the catholic winning in the holy romen empire against the protestants. Gustavus Adolphes died at the battle of Lützen so he never ended up in Turkey. The closes we get to a Swedish King in Turkey is Carolus Rex in exile in Bender that is nowadays in Moldova but was part of the Ottoman empire back then. I am not sure what the series of wars between England and France that was the 100 years wars have to with all this.

The female choir consist of, according to Joakim; "Their old drummers mom and aunt, Joakims old swimming coach, Pärs natrural sciences teacher, and a friend of theirs."
Except for "Christmas Truce", where they used an Italian gospel choir.

Gustav Adolf was a king of Sweden. He led his troops in the 30 years war. He was king back in 1611-1632. He died in the battle of Lützen 1632.
His troops were famous for a new way of cavalry battle. They charged right to the enemy, fired their pistols and then closed in for close combat.

There's a good reason why I chosen my user name... 😄🤘 I just love this song!!
I see that others here gave good information about our Swedish king and warrior, Gustav II Adolf. He didn't just command his army, he led them and fought on the battlefield side by side with them. He died on the battlefield in 1632, while his army won the battle.
Fun fact: he wasn't king of the part of Sweden I come from. The southern part of Sweden was actually Danish territory. The war between Sweden and Denmark back then was all about territory and borders.
    Great reaction!🤘

And the music is composed by Joakim. He has always been in charge of the music.
He works mostly alone, but about 10-15% of the songs he has had someone else writing with him. Chris Rörland did like 6 of the songs on the newest album with Joakim (they hung out a lot together during the "forced touring break")
And the lyrics are ALL by Joakim & Pär. Either they do a song together or one of them takes the lead on it, but no one else has ever written lyrics for a Sabaton song.
They are (and always have been) the history nerds of the band.

Gustav Adolf II was a Swedish king. He died on the battlefield 1632. Small Sweden was controlling a big part of Europe at the time. He was a warrior king. He was 16 when he became king. He changed the religious and politically power in Europe. A lot of positive changes was also made in Sweden. He let his friend Axel Oxenstierna "rule" Sweden because he wasn't in Sweden often. Gustav Adolf had one child when he died, Kristina. She became Queen Kristina. She later abdicated and left the throne to her cousin.

Gustav II Adolf, was king of Sweden from 1611 to 1632, and is credited with Sweden's emergence as a European great power (Swedish: Stormaktstiden). During his reign, Sweden became one of the primary military powers in Europe during the Thirty Years' War, helping to determine the political and religious balance of power in Europe. He was formally and posthumously named Gustavus Adolf the Great

I might been the one requesting this song (my absolute favourite song from Sabaton).
Gustavus Adolphus was a Swedish King in the 1st part of the 17th century. During this time the 30 years war raged in Europe between catolics and protestants, king Gustavus Adolphus was a protestant and intervene in the war to protect and liberate the protestants (that’s why they sing about the eagle (catolic Rome) and the Lion from the north (king Adolphus of Sweden). At that time king Adolphus reformed the military tactics completely and he became highly successful on the battlefield and was a huge reason why the protestants ”won” a long bloody war in Europe (even thou the king was dead when the war ended).

I love the drum work on this song, which is about King Gustav II Adolph of Sweden (also called Gustavus Adolphus), who personally led the Swedish military during their involvement in the Thirty Years' War. But they do have a song about Leonidas called "Sparta". And I want a rug with that lion for my wall! Loved your comments on driving in the winter, reminded me of when I moved to Houston (I grew up in Wyoming) and I used to sit in the diner and watch the flatlanders try to get up the freeway overpasses if it was icy. Great reaction, Stay safe, God Bless, and keep rocking.

To settle all things about Sabaton straight once and for all.. ok 🤘
    1. Joakim is their singer , but was FIRST brought in to join Sabaton as a keyboardist since thats his instrument.. singing was not his first choice or even mentioned , it came from the band when they needed a singer and asked Joakim to try it out.. since then.. hes the leadsinger and not the keyboardist he was supposed to be in the beginning.
    2. Pär (Paer) the bassist is the founding member of Sabaton. Joakim is nr 2 to be with him longest in the band and they write and compose 90 % of the music/lyrics/productions together.
    3. Hannes ( the drummer) is married to the dutch singer Floor Jansen with Finnish band Nightwish.
Both Hannes and Floor lives in Sweden and Floor speaks perfect swedish but no Finnish , cause its to hard in her own words.
    4. Tommy Johansson (guitarist with long blonde hair and no beard) is their ”newest” member, he has also his own successful channel on You Tube where he does fantastic covers of world famous songs.. try it out by searching his name. Hes also have the band Majestica on the side of Sabaton.
    5. Chris Rörland is guitarist and been with the band very long( not original member) but nr 3 after Pär and Joakim. Hannes 4 and Tommy 5 th.
Chris is just awesome in all ways..try Sabatons own ” Vlogs” on You Tube !
    5. Sabaton is a Swedish band from the city of Falun, and sings about war, heroes and true events that actually happened.. no fiction here !!
Cheers ya’ll… hope youre feeling more educated in Sabaton now.
