There is no point on comparing great football player. I have seen few of them before quitting watching football like i used to. I have learnt that you have just watch them play and enjoy it. But I miss the poetry and the beauty of this great genius. It is a poetry that I have found only in other few players. One was Zinedine Zidane, another was Marco Van Basten. I have seen Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the most talented players around nowadays but is still can't get the same emotion Maradona was able to give me.
I agree with every single word, comma and period. El Pibe de oro, the Swan of Utrecht and Zizou. No football player has been able to trigger the same level of emotion in me since those three, and for a number of subjective and objective reasons I doubt any player ever will again.
You are not alone. The 80’s was a milestone for football. A golden generation of players like that rarely happens. When Maradona had the ball it was like the universe stopped to watch. ⚽️💫
0:39 this is crazy . Amazing from the first second of the match storming through all bayern team. what a leader what a touch what a pass . what a genius .
you seem not to realize that this is only a short cut of the 90 minutes. He had his nappings due to his drug consume and alcohol inclination and night life of all sorts.
Careca - Maradona was a deadly attacking / striking duo. They played one of the most skillful and entertaining football ever. R.I. P Diego Armando Maradona. ⚽️⚽️
the "telephone" voice of the commentator (in this case Giorgio Martino) always had a very particular charm. It made you feel the distance between you and the place where the match was played.
He has good physical strength and stamina. Definitely more ' I gotta win at any cost attitude'. He has some wonderfully accurate long shots, though they are not fast enough.
Simply the best. His mastery of the ball and awareness of everyone around him made him the greatest of all time. Imagine how long Messi would survive those disgraceful "tackles."

I generated interested watching football in 1990 during the world cup. And thats when I saw Maradona taking Argentina to finals and losing by 1 goal to zero. Everybody thought Argentina will win. But fate had other plans. Since then I have been an Argentina fan despite being an Indian. I like Messi a lot. There was Pele and few others. But I must admit that Maradona was from a different planet. He was physically and technically very strong. He was just brilliant. He knew all the shots of the book. He is the best ever. GOAT.
One important aspect has been omitted , Maradona was routinely kicked with impunity and there was very little punishment given out to the hatchet men, can you imagine anything like that happening today , Football in the '60's '70's and 80's players were artists rather than the athletes with good ball control with the exception of Messi and 3 or 4 others. The most complete footballer was Cruyff who made himself into the best because he new the game inside out.and worked hard on his shortcomings He made his left foot nearly as good as his right .He could pass like Netzer and dribble like Best. Maradona though had the most natural ability .
Imagine you are on a football pitch and see Maradona and Careca in the centre circle. Enough to give goosebumps to opponents and team-mates alike simply being on the same field as such greatness.
I was fortunate enough to have lived in Napoli from 1981 to 1997 and I also was a big fan of Calcio Napoli. I was also fortunate to have seen the most beautiful and hard fought games in Calcio Napoli’s history when they played against Fabio Capello or Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan, Michelle Platini’s Juventus and against Roma’s Ancelotti, Falcao and Cerezo. Napoli’s attacking trident of Maradona, Careca and Giordano will never be equaled. Last but not least I met Maradona personally and was a a guest at his home and I’ll never forget when I asked him what was his greatest challenge in football? He said that he was only able to regain about forty percent of his preferred left foot’s playing ability after a serious ankle injury following a terrible challenge by Basque defender Andoni Goikoetxea, the so-called ‘Butcher of Bilbao’ this was when he played for Barcelona in 1982. Maradona told me this in 1985 a year before he won the World Cup with Argentina.
That's a great story Saverio and thank you for sharing it. I agree with you: if Maradona was playing in 2020 he would enjoy much better protection from referees than in the brutal 80s. He had to tolerate the 'Butcher of Bilbao' AND the hatchet men of Serie A! By the time the 1990 World Cup rolled around, and Cameroon had kicked him around the pitch in that violent opening game, you could sense that his body couldn't take any more punishment.
football was so brutal those days.... Look what those germans did to Maradona's legs. Just imagine that done today against Messi... Maradona was an absolute football genius of all times
+Zu Docs Agreed! football was so brutal those days... but no Cards comes out from Referee's pocket. If Messi and others played at Maradona's era....I dont believe he could be as his level now. I think the football players at our era is very Lucky by new Fifa rules where a tackle from behind punishable got a red Card, (maybe Applied in WC 1994, where Marco Etchevery is being the first "victim")
Messi received more hits in his youth then Maradona. The only difference is and was, if u see Messi on the ground it's because it's something serious, but if it was Maradona he was just buying time even tho there was contact. You also have to take into consideration speed most players now are much faster then classico players.
Metalpazallteway Come on... With today's rules almost all German players would have received red cards. Messi would score much less if he was treated the same way Maradona was. And if you want to compare the greatness of both - I would say you this: "World cup 1986". There is nothing in Messi career coming even close to that. That was a great show of football in which Maradona was a diamond.
Back in those days players would go for the player as opposed to the ball. But today, the players go for the ball usually, and if not, the player gets very badly injured wether by accident or by will which usually ends up in a fracture or a tear of a muscle. Also take into consideration how many times, and how a player falls to the ground. Most players today fall very abnormally and other hurt their back or other areas of their bodies, a player like Maradona used to dive a lot. Nine times out of ten he always got away with it, referees don't take that crap anymore. Especially in the English league maybe perhaps not the Bundesliga
TREMENDO JUGADOR !!! EL MAS GRANDE DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS !!!...se dieron cuenta como MARADONA hacia jugar al equipo completo, IMPRESIONANTEEEEEE !!!...UNICO E INIGUALABLE !!!! LEJOS EL MEJOR .....
Maradona isn't my favourite person but as a footballer he was both a genius and a colossus...his performance at the 1986 World Cup is unlikely to be equalled, let alone surpassed...he could drag good but not great sides to glory...I've seen no other player do this
@cohenhaywood10 I'm a Brit, and I didn't like what he did (the hand of God), ...we've also had our luck ('66) but his solo-goal more than made up for it. He probably wouldn't have scored the goal of the century if it was against Bayern, chopping him down every time he was on the ball. He later complimented the fair play of the English team, saying, "I don't think I could have done it against any other team because they all used to knock you down; they are probably the noblest in the world".
Tavy@ maradona is just brilliant to watch. You never get tired watching him. You could watch him for hours on end. George best, maradona and maybe pele are the only players that get me on the edge of my seat. I have to wait for an advert to come to use the toillet. I will and cannot leave my chair when they 3 are on tv. George best is the greatest i have ever saw, then maradona then pele and for me thats where it ends. I remember watching maradonas games all through 1986 world cup when he won it. And on 2 games at least i could of swore there was 35 to 30 minutes left against belgium then after 7 minutes it was over. Becouse the game or he was that good the time just flew bye!!!
Remember this match was during Golden Era of Germany and Buyern when they went to 1986 final and won the world cup in 1990. Mardona's performance was even more remarkable because most of fouls at that time would not get penalized as harsh as now so many technical players would be stopped easily and many of technical players got retired early due to injury such as Marco Van Basten.

Messi still needs to stand out in a world cup and win it. He also needs to go to a club and help build it, before Maradona I believe Napoli had not won much if not anything. Napoli where building before maradona came, buying maradona was one of the first steps, they then bought and built players around him, then success followed

As great as he is in this video, it's clear to see that he isn't at the level he was a couple years prior to this. The lifestyle choices really started to impact him. I think the reason that a lot of people bring up the name Messi in comparisons, isn't that Messi has necessarily reached the heights of Maradona, but he's been able to maintain a consistency of brilliance over a much longer period of time.

I agree with every single word, comma and period. El Pibe de oro, the Swan of Utrecht and Zizou. No football player has been able to trigger the same level of emotion in me since those three, and for a number of subjective and objective reasons I doubt any player ever will again.
What about fenomeno?
@@davidchobola4259 yeah o fenomeno was another great one, along with ronaldinho.

You are not alone. The 80’s was a milestone for football. A golden generation of players like that rarely happens. When Maradona had the ball it was like the universe stopped to watch. ⚽️💫

Artist and the same time true warrior on a pitch
Diego, armanda, Maradona, the greatest player in football history.
On one single game , he was tackled hard, more times than Messi and Ronaldo in their whole career, together! And still, he kicked their ass!

the "telephone" voice of the commentator (in this case Giorgio Martino) always had a very particular charm.

For ever ... never forgot, always enjoyed. And making Bayern kaputt, double joy - only Maradona can make this.
GOAT.

What a player he was..Skillfull,physical,fast,smart, simply DIEGO,the greatest..Rip maestro..Never be forgotten..
The Best Player EVER!!!
Forza Maradona...Forza Napoli

One important aspect has been omitted , Maradona was routinely kicked with impunity and there was very little punishment given out to the hatchet men, can you imagine anything like that happening today , Football in the '60's '70's and 80's players were artists rather than the athletes with good ball control with the exception of Messi and 3 or 4 others. The most complete footballer was Cruyff who made himself into the best because he new the game inside out.and worked hard on his shortcomings He made his left foot nearly as good as his right .He could pass like Netzer and dribble like Best. Maradona though had the most natural ability .
cruyff had elegance but maradona was an one man army
hallo dany, yo no comprendre espanol
Not to mention the fields were far from ideal, the ball direction was much harder to predict.
Metalpazallteway So many award Messi got in His career,
but still can not Compare to Maradonna..
Maradonna so special...
LEJOS EL MEJOR .....

he remains the finest player I've seen in my lifetime
Maradona isn't my favourite person but as a footballer he was both a genius and a colossus...his performance at the 1986 World Cup is unlikely to be equalled, let alone surpassed...he could drag good but not great sides to glory...I've seen no other player do this
@Simon Goodwind and what does that have to do with anything he said
@cohenhaywood10 I'm a Brit, and I didn't like what he did (the hand of God), ...we've also had our luck ('66) but his solo-goal more than made up for it.

After that I can say he is on the same as Maradona. You cant say that with many great players these days most of them win at the biggest clubs. Dont forget back in those days they would do anything to bring players down and refs wouldn't give the reds card out like they do now.

As great as he is in this video, it's clear to see that he isn't at the level he was a couple years prior to this. The lifestyle choices really started to impact him.
