Alt F4 on pc, channel 5 or 363, and switch to hdmi 2 or video on tv.
Emergency measures if their is plot on screen and you must keep it hidden at all costs. For the TV though you can tell it's ready by audio via headset or ear bud even if the TV is off or the channel is changed.
You will know when the anime woman stops singing or you hear your butt getting kicked in game.
But be aware of your audio as much as your surroundings and take into account high deaf you or loved ones are. Play it safe and don't do stupid plays. Your not Devin's Blockade. Experiment until results are satisfactory lest you want social suicide for the rest of your life.

Honestly, when I was still young playing that I felt the same, so one way I avoided feeling uncomfortable was just go to the bath even if I didn't have too another trick is if your phone is charging make sure put it in your bed room that way you have an excuse to leave
