Can some people do it? of course and many do but you're delusional if you think everybody has the means to be able to take care of their parents with challenging health issues whilst working a full time job and looking after kids, especially as the government doesn't give any support to family members who do stay at home to be full time carers. People pay their taxes so they can be looked after at all ages. Don't shame people who don't have the means to work around their elders.

Plus what evidence do you have about which jobs immigrants do? Many came to work in the NHS and still do, because there is no realistic alternative. Many came to the UK to study and stayed on; they won't study forever. Having worked in Education most of my own working life I can safely say that many of the young people leaving school with few or no qualifications are simply not suited either socially or emotionally to care for elderly or disabled people. Caring is a job which requires a specific and demanding skill set - why are governments not prepared to pay adequately for this when they’re happy to waste billions on senseless unworkable schemes like The Rwanda project and more than happy to funnel millions into corrupt schemes which benefit cronies and donors? 3:24

Funding for care has been too low since I first manged a care home in 2002. So cuts are made to food, laundry, PPE, numbers of staff per shift and resources for entertainment. Lots of homes have issues with hygiene. Plus the stress is not just cleaning a bottom. It is cleaning someone who is fighting you, it is responding to relatives who are unhappy with care. It is about trying to deal with situations for which you have no training. It is dealing with management systems based on criticism and blame. Added to this we have an inspection organisation (CQC) which has no responsibility for funding or assisting in improvement, but focuses on criticism and demanding improvement. Time to get a grip or admit that the older or vulnerable people do not count and need to die.......at home.

If they funded a pay raise by as much as universal credit is paying these workers it wouldn't cost any more then it does now, but would probably attract a lot more people. So while the number of dependents is growing (the disabled and the elderly, as people are living longer), the workforce is dropping like a stone. Quite simply, we either have to accept we will become a poorer country and will struggle to have the workers to look after those dependents, or we need migration.
The irony is that so many Brexit voters to keep EU citizens out because they didn't like Pakistanis. As a result they have more people with dark skins coming into the country.

Well, thing is... you can't really separate one from the other. As a foreigner, if I hear that Brits hate foreigners, I won't go there controlled or not. There are other countries I can go to, if I want, where I'm not treated like I'm suspected of a crime 24/7. If the UK imposes conditions like don't bring family, why settle there? If they kick me out like a used napkin once they no longer need me (which is what Reform UK is proposing with its net zero migration), why go there? We saw UK media instigate hate against foreigners and the tabloids reflect the average person's views. So, if anything the people who still go there must have missed the memo: Brits don't want foreigners. They're full (when you say you're full, as Brits say, you're not saying full for some, but full for whoever) The guy yelling at you to go back where you came from, because he's bothered you're not speaking English, isn't drawing any distinction between illegal or legal immigrant, businessman or tourist, he doesn't care about nuance: he thinks all foreigners are illegals... he can't possibily know what you are, but he's still yelling at you. He hears a foreign language and he immediately becomes aggressive.

Its not just about getting staff. Its about more funding
and making sure care providers use the money for what its intended for. Sadly sometimes when providers get care funding that money is not used for what its intended for. Allocating more money to the NHS The attitude to spending on health care for the sick and elderly is seen as money wasted . Because these people spend more that they give or have given in terms of work contribution to build the economy or tax revenue to fund MPs expences. The care sector needs good people not any people. The way the public see carers isnt always helpful. If care is unskilled. Why do we need carers at all? Surely if was easy people could be cared for by their partners or other family members? We wouldnt need care homes for the same reason. More respect and better pay is the answer.

But this is not really about immigration or overseas workers. This is about Tory Ayn Randian ideology which says that people should not get benefits and if there's work they should do that. Of course none of them have been in that position and don't know what it's like (Ayn Rand ended up on benefits incidentally). But they assume it's (always) the fault of the person involved and there's no reason why they shouldn't do the work. This is not how society works and does not make people happy. Of course, they don't care about others being happy, so they don't take any of that into account. There was a time when our NHS flourished with overseas workers, people came and picked fruit and worked in other sectors and were happy to do that. And we were happy for them to do that. And there you have it - the Tories just don't want you to be happy.

Rand incidentally was a bitter old russian woman. She wrote a pair of (very long) vapid novels that Americans like Paul Ryan used to force their interns to read. That explains a lot about Republican politics and, by extension, our right-wing, which doesn't actually have many of their own ideas.

I enjoy what I do, most of the time, and am well-paid for it. Most teachers I’ve met enjoy their jobs, but are relatively badly paid.
My mother worked as a carer in disabled care homes as a teenager and in her early 20s, and really enjoyed it. It was probably much better paid relative to the cost of living back in the ‘60s, before Thatcher and the Tories suppressed wages, and privatised public services and utilities companies, thereby rapidly increasing the cost of living.

Not all sectors are created equally. The care sector in England is likely one of the lowest paying in Europe. A successful RUclipsr can earn more than a doctor, though this isn't the case across all industries. There's no constitutional rule against shrinking an economy if the population declines. Immigrants age too, leading to a potential vicious cycle. Most Western countries need about 20 more years to stabilize. Immigration is a complex issue, adding pressure on social cohesion, housing, healthcare, and education, especially when resources are limited. Immigration is fine if controlled, but history shows that great powers like the Roman Empire fell after large influxes of outsiders.

    • @RedDevilStudio

No the roman empire fell because of corruption, multiple civil wars and failure of local governance. Large empires require vast resources to maintain, and people don't tolerate subjugation for so long.
