It’s weird to me that items are overpriced at shows and comic shops when we’re in the age of online shopping and most of us know (especially if it’s something we’ve been hunting for) what’s “reasonable.” I guess they’re banking on folk new to collecting.

They take advantage of the same mentality that you see at theme parks. The up charge when somebody is standing there right in front of your booth and has the money to spend. Or there's a child at your waist shouting for something and they want it now.

@valaverse I’ve never really liked cons because I feel like most vendors overcharge on their products and take advantage of the customers. I much rather try trading with someone (like we did at the shop curiosity show), because I feel like trades are more fair. Both parties kind of have a feeling of what the item or items they want to trade are worth and what the item or items they want are worth, and will reach a reasonable understanding between each other, where they can both walk away happy and not feel like they were taken advantage of. I appreciate that you were willing to trade with me at that show, and I hope you were happy with it! Also I have a pretty sad story about that Two-Face figure; My family had gone down to my grandparents house for Christmas Day, and my uncle had given me a bunch of those Batman figures. Two-Face being the one I was happiest to get since it had just been released. I spent the whole day running around my grandparents house playing with the figures. At that time we use to stay overnight when we visited my grandparents, so I had gone to sleep with all my new toys scattered across the bed I was sleeping in. When I woke up Two-Face was missing. I tore the bed apart, moved the bed off the wall, and turned the whole room over multiple times, but never found that Two-Face! I only had that figure for a few hours and it vanished never to be seen again! Even after my grandparents passed and my family tore the house apart we never found it, but we found other toys, like a vintage Kenner Luke Skywalker (Bespin) in the wall. If it wasn’t for a few family photos and an old home video, which show the figure being opened, I would think me getting it and losing it was a bad dream!

At SDCC, I went to my go to booth for loose figs and lo and behold he had a bunch of Valaverse Action Force stuff. He had 4 Wasp Raiders, 2 sealed and 2 loose. Since he recognized be as a “usual customer” he gave me a great deal on all 4. So it does happen at toy shows and cons that there are some great deals to be found. It’s also pretty awesome how approachable you are, the community imo see you as one of us instead of the owner of a toy company…

It's funny because that Exosquad figure that was in his hand that one he said was a great vehicle, was the toy that FASA tried to sue Playmates over. FASA lost, with Jordan Weisman running all over the place falsely claiming that Playmates made Exosquad to take out BattleTech. Exosquad was originally owned by Universal Animated Studios which is now merged with Dreamworks Animation under NBC/Universal (AKA: Comcast). The copyright for Exosquad was renewed in 2016 for some reason, but all of Don Bluth's films made under Universal Animated Studios were returned to Don Bluth for some reason.

They can set any price they want. It’s up to the buyer to know what they can get cheaper anywhere else be it eBay, Amazon, AliExpress, etc. Especially if it’s items still available at retail. If it’s vintage, then yeah it will most likely be expensive at a show. Might be cheaper at a garage sale.

I would love to pay $20 for any toy here in Brazil, but you can hardly find one for less than 200 in my local currency.
