Yeah, I run into that somewhat with HP laptops. it gets frustrating for me when I cannot find a schematics even though like you said there are shortcuts to finding out what's wrong with the board. In this current age of scarcity when it comes to computer components especially processors and gpu is really not cost-effective to replace the processor or GPU nowadays.
