    The only issue I have with doing the repair this way is the chance the connector will be in the way of something else when it comes to reassembly. Obviously checking that beforehand is advisable, if all clear, then there's no problem.

      In this case, the connector isnt coming out of the case. Looks like a fan connector so they’re usually not in the way of anything

    • @SAZodia
      @SAZodia 2 года назад +4

      @@htfab9251 It's the power connector (5v and standby) it sits directly under the power supply, there is very little clearance, but that should be fine.

      would using wire for the supports be viable or will they not be strong enough to keep the connector on the board? and by using the wire i mean to keep the connect in the same spot and grinding in front and behind the ripped pad so the wire is soldered on both ends.

      That's the customer fault if so as he/she didn't send the whole console for assembling and testing

      If location is a problem then just solder mask the connector to the board

    I used that new grinding pen to remove some tooth decay last week.
    It was a bit painful but I was able to get the cavity out without going to a dentist.
    HA! Just kidding.....NEVER do your own dentistry!

    Hi Alex, I would like to thank you for making videos. Today after 1 month of trying to learn micro soldering, finally fixed 0402 package* smd RGB LEDs of my broken Logitech g513 Keyboard. *(refers to 1mm*1mm 4 pin SMD LED). I do not have any equipment except a soldering iron. Lucky that Paderborn university offers free labs for students with all types of equipment. Me along with 2 other friends with team work fixed it. Desoldered from donor board, practiced on it, and then attempted on the actual board. It was super super hard and in total we spent 9 hours to fix 5 LEDs. Lucky that I had cermaic tweezers. Nearly 18 LEDs flew into 9th dimension. 10 LEDs couldn't take the heat because we were using metal tweezers at first. Overall it is a good learning experience and just realise how hard you have acquired those skills. Whatever price you charge, it is worthwhile for your customers. I tried all your techniques and finally we got the hang of it. First LED took 40min but rest took only 3min each.
    ❤️ From Germany.

    I purchased one of the grinding pens from your site, AWESOME! I have an industrial repair station that includes a grinding pen (tethered to the station via a cable) and for this type work, the small pen is far superior, even though there is a massive difference in the price. Sometimes, more $$ isn't necessarily better!

  • @kshipperX
    @kshipperX 2 года назад +10

    You are getting known for repairing the repair attempts. It also doesn't seem to bother you as much as it did in the past. I would imagine the price of a repair is higher once you know it's coming in and has been previously messed with. Oh. I finally did my first solder job. DC jack replacement. =)

  • @bpark10001

    If you have it, you should connect the mate to the connector. This will support the pins while they are being soldered & minimize the chance of the pins moving out of place because the body of the connector softens.

  • @carlosgomez_c137
    @carlosgomez_c137 2 года назад +3

    Just the way I used to do that. You don't have to worry even all pads are ripped, just grind, solder and cover with solder mask. But I used to wick all solder in order to keep conector as closer as I can to the board.
    Better than factory! 😁

    Really awesome work, Alex! It's awesome I got to see you fix my board and you making an educational video out of it! Okay this is great, but my question regarding the repair process simply because I am not a experienced electronics fixer like you is.. The pin that had the ripped trace missing and you created a new solder joint.. The trace doesn't need to be completed to the section it was connected to? Now that you have made a new pad where is that signal going to if the rest of the pad isnt linked/ intact to the full trace to complete the circuit? Was there enough trace left to still get continuity across?

    A rotary tool is fine, but I generally prefer to use abrasive fiberglass brush for such job. It makes it virtually impossible to grind through copper or damage traces.
    For those in EU: if you want a rotary too perfect for this kind of work, buy one from Lidl. It's totally underpowered which makes it perfect for PCB work.
