    I have been a floor sleeper since I was fourteen. I am now 77 and feel as though I am still fourteen. I'm happy to know other people others have discovered the benefit of floor sleeping. Thanks for sharing.

      Hello, I know your comment is 1year past. But thank you for your comment. I am thinking of sleeping in the floor. And I am thinking of how I am about to do it. I am concerned about moister build up while sleeping on the floor. We would be sleeping in a Vinyl Linoleum floor unfortunately some Kind of modern flooring. I am thinking oft building some Kind of wood surface but i am unsure. Do you have any recommendations for basics for sleeping in the floor? Like surface for sleeping on? Hygiene etc.? Thank you and all the best!

    Agreed. I have bee mostly sleeping on or quite close to the floor 40 years. Let me tell you, the hype is real. People my age (50s) suffer all sorts of back, hip, and knee pain. For a couple of months I bought a mattress to TRY. T&N. You know them. My body felt AWFUL every morning and yes, I, too, tossed and turned. The floor is my everything from eating, typing, reading, yoga, sexing (TMI), texting, and, yeah, sleeping! Try not to let anyone make you feel bad about preferring the floor ir not wanting a big over priced fancy bed with over priced bedding!

      I really love your experience and awesome to know that even as I get older this will still work for me. Appreciate you sharing your story on both of my videos. Haha it needs to be said sex on the floor as actually pretty good. It is funny how people react sometimes about it. Especially when I go to other peoples places and say that I would rather sleep on the floor a prefer it but they like to think that this isn't true and convince me otherwise. Now I have a photo on my phone I say seriously this is my actual bed. I hope your well Raw LawGirl lovely to hear from you again :)

      It’s even more important to stay on the floor when you’re older because we get so stiff from sitting in chairs and sleeping on mattresses for decades. I’m 56 and really struggling now with stiffness and bad back, hip and knees. Thanks for your video and your lovely positive outlook.

    I have very much the same hygiene/laundry routine. I'm 70, BTW...I use natural coverlets and quilts.I use a light foam roll up pad, and make up the bed each evening, rolling it back up and storing everything in the morning. I have been a floor sleeper for some years, ditto hubby. And when we had pets, they would snuggle in at the bottom, too!!

    hi! I got my sciatic nerve stuck, and my chiropractor suggested that i sleep on the floor. I was reluctant but did it. Inside a week i was feeling better. For me the only position that was comfortable was on the back. I would suggest for someone that doesn't have any problems to do it progressively by putting good layers in the beginning. Have a nice day and a nice back.

When I came back to the Netherlands I started to develop back pains again. And I'm only 27. One night I just had it and started to sleep on the floor. Best decision I've ever made recently!

    This is really intriguing! I have a lot of back/shoulder/neck issues and I'm thinking about trying it. When I went away to college, I didn't get a bed for the first two weeks and I slept on a yoga mat and sleeping bag on the hard wood floor. The first night or two were terrible, then it was like the best thing ever. I found it really hard to adjust back to a regular bed. I think it's something everyone should at least try for a couple weeks. It's amazing what the body can adjust to!

    • @NeliaRose
      @NeliaRose  6 лет назад +3

      Yes I think it is definitely worth a try especially if you suffer for physical pains. It takes a little time to adjust but like you said afterwards you never want to go back! :)

  • @MicahRion
    @MicahRion 6 лет назад +35

    I think I'm finally going to try this because i love sleeping on the ground when camping (while many friends prefer bringing an air mattress). I just don't like that feeling of sinking in. And I totally agree with that feeling of good alignment and pain relief from laying down on the floor. I'm a side sleeper though so I'll likely need more padding for my hip.

    • @NeliaRose
      @NeliaRose  6 лет назад +2

      That is awesome to hear. Yes we I hate camping mattress and they always deflate in the night and you end up on the floor anyway. Yes start with a good amount of padding especially as you adjust to the food then take it away or add more. It is so great because you can really adjust it to fit your needs and make it the most comfortable for you. Good luck and let me know how you get on with it :) Have a lovely weekend and please let me know the name of the book that your quote comes from :)

    I've been sleeping on the floor for about 2 years now and the number of times I've slept in a traditional bed I can count on one hand. I can not do it for long ( 1-25nights) as like many others here on this comment section it really bothers my back and neck. Also for the Japanese futon I can not use it for long periods as it is on rare occasions I utilize it but nice to have when need a little comfort without having over kill on bedding.
    I did start on the floor 2 weeks (1st week being the hardest for me), followed by 3 months on a japanese futon before going back to the floor. I have a carpet on top of hard wood and depending on the seasons I will used different things. In summer typically it is just a sheet on the carpet and my blanket, winter I have a knit blanket (for warmth) folded and flannel sheets and blankets on top, no pillow.
    I would suggest to any anyone keep the floor clean, vaccum daily or a few days during the weeks and wash your bedding weekly if you keep it down on the floor all the time. If not it is nice to have the space to utilize when not sleeping and the room you can do other things in as well :)

I didn't know the benefits then but I felt so good, I still sleep on the carpet. My headache, back pain, hip pain, stiff neck and shoulder all gone little by little. Some creepy crawler have easy access to me but still sleep on the floor.

    Thank you so much for this video. :) It's time to get rid of my current traditional bed since I've had it well over 12 years and it's very uncomfortable from the years of use. I checked out one video where the person is using a traditional Japanese futon (mattress & cover) that are hand made but YIKES!! over $800!! Your idea of a yoga mat with another covering on top, then a sheet over those two and a duvet is MUCH more economical!!

    I did this with a cot cushion on the floor for about a year because I had no choice since my old bed had to be thrown out. I love beds, but I do remember having no trouble on the floor. You can make it cosy 😊 Kinda wish my parents didn't get me a new one. It's so soft and I sunk in it too much so switched it for an older one we had in the guest room. Hopefully we can get rid of this old one and I can go back to the floor soon!

    Super cool to watch. I'm very conscious about my spinal health. I practice great posture. I'm only 17, glad I started at such a young age. Last night was my first night sleeping on the floor. I have carpet floors but besides that, the only thing I used was a thin duvet which I kind of mummified myself in, not really. I woke up, and my back and neck was more healthy except with this really weird knot in my back. I suppose it will go away the more I get used to it.

    I have watched this after my first night of sleeping on the floor again. I used to do this all the time when I was younger, but then I stopped. Until yesterday when tossing and turning at 3 am became to much. And I must say: I am still in love with this. I have to get used to it again, but I don't know why I ever thought sleeping on a matress could benefit me in any way shape or form.
    I am currently sleeping on my mattress topper and will be working my way down to a thinner surface or just the floor hopefully very soon^^

    I bring my bed up every day because I also sleep on my yoga mat, which my cats would totally destroy if given the chance. :) And OMG I could not agree more about the difference between a conventional bed and floor sleeping! My sacroiliac joint (in the pelvis) gets sore if I lie on squishy surfaces. I also used to have chronically tight trapezius muscles, which I no longer have. I sleep so much better and have lots more dreams now too. It's hard to understand how humans have chosen beds over floors.

I would also give yourself a lot more cushioning then what I have to start with just put all your blankets and maybe if you have a rung down as well then see how you go. Take things away if you feel like it later but give yourself plenty to begin with. Let me know how you go and if you have anymore questions :) Good luck!

      I just started with floor sleeping. It's my third night now. Is it a problem that I don't use a lot of cushioning? Directly sleep on the ground (carpet), the first night was hard. But the second night was awesome.

    Hi! Do you still use this setup of your floor bed or did you upgrade to some kind of futon to have less layers and something more practical? It’s day 5 for me, the worst it was the second day before adding more cushioning - i just slept on an old thin yoga mat and a carpet straight off😅 I felt my hip bones as a back AND side sleeper lol! Learned I have to first ADJUST my routine and have more cushioning before sleeping on almost hard floor. Today I even forgot my knee pillow sleeping on my back during the night too (I fell asleep on my side) and I had no straining in my lower back (they say you should use a knee pillow when sleeping on back to lower your lower back position but I felt okay! So grateful I came across floor sleeping! I feel like camping haha!

      Yeah when you have a little congestion it can be harder to sleep as flat as you do the spoor but you can find a way to make it comfortable and like you said if you just change when you are consuming you can also stop the problem :) thank you for sharing!

    I converted to floor sleeping a while back and now I drool thinking about bedtime, lol. I haven’t slept so enjoyably and straight through the night since childhood!!!
    My question is do you think it’s ok to leave your bed out? I know the big perk is being able to roll up the bed and put it away but I find that tiring and prefer my bed to be all the time like a traditional bed. At the same time I’ve heard of beds needing to be able to “breathe” to air out from sweat and prevent mold ? What do you think? Does that only apply to traditional mattresses? Is there a way to have the best of both worlds? :/

    I slept on carpet with a hospital foam piece for a while, then 4" foam mattress on plywood for over 10 years. Now I have a mattress, but have a thin pillow lengthwise along the spine with a thin cushion for pillow. So, my spine is not sagging. Works great when traveling. Am getting a platform bed, will look for a way to pad it. I don't have a baseboard heater, and the floor get quite cold, so platform bed would do it, and it has 2 drawers underneath. Beside, my floor is not clean.

  • @nonih9338

    I'm not all the way on the floor i think. I have a very thin spring mattress ($75 twin bed sized mattress, so it's very small), and it's about 6" high on the floor, and it is the best sleep i've had in a very long time (been about 3months now), and i really didn't know why at first but i've been looking more into it, and i've noticed that i've been doing better with getting up earlier and on time in general. I have all the floor space i want -which was why i downsized and got rid of big clunky furniture (i prefer wide space over a stuffy room anytime). I was originally supposed to find a new bed set (headboard, boxspring, rails, all that stuff) to make it into a daybed, but this is much better in my opinion. Plus I can easily rearrange my bed in this space whenever i want by pushing it across the floor, it's really just been a nice experience just as it is. From videos like this, i was sort of wondering, is it more beneficial to simply have a bit of cushoning down as bedding like what you have, or does my small springy mattress essentially have some of the same benefits long term? I'm only a couple of inches off the ground, but i'm wondering if the floor would be better? Or is 6" of mattress between me and the floor still considered as 'floor sleeping' in a way?

    I use the layers of blankets method and I'll see about picking up a yoga mat because I'm considering trying yoga. It'll have a dual function.
    I slept on the floor for a year and half and when I had to move I started using a bed again and it made my back hurt so I went back to the floor haha.

    Lol... My mattress is really hard and has springs in it. I'm used to it but other people tell me its uncomfortable. When I try a really fluffy bed, than I can't sleep because I feel like I'm being swallowed by it and can't move.

    I use interlocking foam mats -- the kind that you would see in a children's play room. I like how, when sleeping on the floor on your side, it keeps the pelvis/hips from sinking into a soft mattress and thereby results in a stretch to the lower back muscles that you would not get if you were sleeping on a mattress. I would tell people that live in an apartment that they should liberate themselves from their mattress and use it instead to put up against the door to the hallway so that it dampens the sounds coming from the hallway... and it also dampens the sounds of the person in the apartment going out onto the hallway. Sounds such as if you are caterwauling or maybe fluffin' in your apartment.

    I love this video, it is so inspiring! I have been dealing with back pain for ages, and for a long time I thought it was necessary to sleep on a really hard bed, but then over time I wound up putting foam toppers onto my bed because I thought the hard bed was causing my tight lower back and hips. And now I have a softer bed, but my back is still not feeling great. I'm considering sleeping on the floor. Did you notice any type of hip or shoulder stiffness when you first started sleeping on the floor? Some people say that a hard surface can cause pressure in your joints....but maybe that is just a myth. Maybe I will start off just sleeping on the floor for a couple hours at a time...I am a side sleeper. Do you ever feel pain when you sleep on your side?

    • @CG_Lord
      @CG_Lord 5 лет назад

      lady who loves cake you should consider a cervical neck pilow for your neck and place one pillow in between your legs while sleeping as well. I do this while sleeping on the ground. But crazy enough... after four days of sleeping on the ground... for the first time ever I was able to fall asleep lying on my back.
      Also consider learning to fix your posture, Jermey Ethier has good videos on this. The backpod is also another good thing to help for back pain. And maybe one of the most important things to get your body back into better shape if it’s been hurting for a long time... is to search online for the best chiropractors in your area. Check how many stars they have and how many people they have. Then read the reviews so that you can get an idea on what sort of things they have helped with and see if it’s relevant to your issues. Best of luck to you. I hope your pain goes away.

    Dear friends, besides healthy benefits and space saving here are some argumets that seems interesting about sleeping on the floor . I will be more than a glad , to find out more about your experience, feelings and oppinions , so leave the coments below )
    1) Makes you more grounded , takes away anxiety (depression ) you feel relaxed .
    2) Helps to feel your body better .
    3) The spine holds the structure of all our nerve endings, the nervous system.
    A healthy spine makes for a healthy nervous system. Sleeping on a hard surface,
    allows the spine to be aligned properly and is able to rejuvinate the whole body throughout the night. Ultimate healing
    4) Being on the floor has such an instant calming effect.
    5) Helps to get rid of all the tension
    6) Lay on the ground you feel more connected to the earth which is very helpful if you consider that deep inside we're still animals.

    Thanks for the informative video. I've been considering buying myself a futon but since I sleep on my side and my hips are wider than my shoulders I'm afraid that my spine would be in a strange position if I don't have enough cushioning. Do you sleep on your side? Does it work well?

      I sleep on my side on a futon currently and it works great. You can always order one online test it out for a week or two and then return it. You won't know until you try and my body would be different to yours so can't say for sure :) good luck and let me know how you get on :)

    I think people are different. I found in my own experiment that I slept very well on a mattress as opposed to the floor. It was hard for me to get to sleep on the floor and I could not get comfortable. I did this experiment for 6 months on the floor and finally gave up and went back to my bed... which was far more comfortable and didn't present the problems that came with my bed on the floor.

      That is unfortunate well maybe you can think of a way to raise a sleeping surface that is firmer for you. Or you could put a netting around you like they do in countries that have a lot of critters. They call them mosquito nets I believe :)
