Love how you can hear it stomping/crawling around like in Alien: Isolation. They killed it with the sound design in that game and added a whole new depth of fear I felt for the Xenomorph that the movies never really played around with all that much.

This movie was great, I am a huge Alien fan and this is my 3rd favorite Alien movie following the first two. I'm so glad they used practical effects mostly instead of a bunch of CGI.
The practical effects are one thing BUT the thing for me (as a medical professional) is the fact that this was absolutely shot in a very dim or dark room. There is no way to "convincingly" portray the pupil dilation she has. She was either in a very dark room or genuinely terrified. Fedi Alverez KNOWS horror, he KNOWS how it should be shot. I can't wait.
He's heavily influenced by Alien: Isolation, and the setting for the film is an abandoned space station that still has some power, so my guess is that both of your theories are right.
The acting was fantastic under superb direction. I was lucky enough to see this on IMAX. Thank you for pointing out the subtle yet exceptional details some of us would not see.

Cgi did things like Jurassic Park, Davy Jones or Terminator 2 come true. Don't disrespect it. The problem is its overuse, not that they use it. Cgi used to look good precisely because it was used only for what it was needed, alwats helped by practical things, and not everything like nowadays
What is there genius about it? The fact that main character out of sudden learns how to shoot like a T-800, or the fact that in mid air she took a shot to avoid contact with the acid? The whole scene was made like it was written by a child.
Fun fact: In the novelization of the first film, when Lambert & Parker get ambushed and Ripley finds the aftermath, it's insinuated that it abducted both, but had forcibly squeezed them through a jagged metal opening to do so. Aliens are still scary. Ripley has no idea what he's talking about.
Love how so many folks keep complaining about any new movie or trailer. Look, if y’all don’t like it, then don’t go paying for it or go learn to be a producer/director, raise funds, and start making your own movies.

@@scottjo76 First 3 Alien movie was a classic scifihorror, but some apostrophed Alien1 as a slasher and that is not far from the truth. Aliens is maybe the best scifi horror action movie ever made but still not much philosophy. Alien3 was a perfect closure the story of Ripley and Xenos imho. But i think there is still potential in Xenos and crews, even in the same timeline, and Romulus will deliver one .

Saw this film on a trip to Las Vegas ….. and I’m so glad and relieved to say it was great! Really well done, lots of nods and winks to previous Alien films whilst retaining its own unique identity.
Xenomoirphs are like ninjas, you don't hear them coming, that's why they're so scary, this thumping BS may work in a video game, but the demon from the first movie never made a noise!

I placed Romulus just below Alien only because it was not the original film. I personally have always felt the director's cut of Alien should have been the theatrical version. IMO: Alien an A+; Aliens an A+; Alien Romulus an A; Prometheus a B; Alien Resurrection a C; Alien: Covenant a C-; and Alien 3 and F. Alien 3 was a stab in the back to Aliens with a poorly written script. Alien 3 was in no way David Fincher's fault as the studio kept interfering and changing to story while filming.

My only real critique is that they should've included more tense scenes like this with the xenos before the guns showed up. I always thought the alien works better as an almost unkillable solo antagonist rather than a collective monster that attacks in hordes.
Agree that the alien works better when it's an unstoppable killing machine rather than cannon fodder, which is why I will always much prefer Alien over Aliens. However I think they reached a soft spot here, where the first half of the movie is tense like in Alien and the second part is more action packed like in Aliens. I think it was perfectly balanced.

The movie did perfect with the survival horror aspect,you are alone and need to survive. It did an amazing job with the lone dark cold of the metal and horrors of human desire in space 🌌
I have to admit, I was very sceptical about another Alien film, but from the scenes that I have seen, this could be a good film. Maybe even the best since Alien & Aliens. The set pieces and the Xenomorph in Romulas look epic. It will be interesting to see how this film looks and feels when it's released.
This movie was the ultimate fan service entry; nothing really new (not even the "natural-born Human Alien", a recycled idea from Resurrection), but boy, every spare part used made glorious sense.
I still wished they made the movie that was suppose to come after covenant i mean David escaped with the colonist that is a big cliffhanger cause that would had explained the engineer ship on lv426 before Ripley arrived 😊

This was a fantastic movie, Fede did it again. One of my favorite directors with Evil Dead RM, Don't Breath and Rom. The sky is the limit for him.
