  • A Direct Access adaptation project funded by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by Armenia's Environmental Project Implementation Unit (EPIU) and the Ministry of Environment is improving lives and livelihoods of communities in Artik City and surrounding areas that had been vulnerable to floods and air pollution. Stonepit wastes have been closed, arable lands fertilized, quality of crops improved, cattle pastures reclaimed, riverbeds reinforced, flood management and weather prediction systems enhanced, and eco-clubs formed to plant trees and energize youth groups. In all, the project has included 15,000 beneficiaries with 60% being female. It has established a successful model with potential for replication or scale-up.
