- RC car racing is amazing but how do the cars from our childhood do on the track. I get to find out when I race the Tamiya Hotshot at the 2022 Iconic RC revival event .
Up against some stiff competition with the kyoshos and schumacher cars of old ruling the rostrum .
This 1985 classic rc car takes to the track. 4wd nostalgia

It's all about having fun and seeing all the vintage cars going around the track❤️
Recommend it if you are ever in the area
I still think the Hotshot is an absolute looker of an RC car, and it has this sort of charm as it trundles along. It Is heavy and not particularly agile for sure, but it'll make you smile.
I was smiling most of the day hahaha
@@PopalongRC Some absolutely beautiful cars there, I must say.
Cheers Sully
One thing regarding the Hot Shot's agility is that it actually oddly benefits from having less traction. The back end is very loose but the car pulls out of slides very easily, so it's really easy to get it to rotate around an apex on loam. But on turf or carpet, the car loses the ability to do this and ends up being held back by its weight and quirky driving characteristics.
Great video brings back some great memories
The Hotshot was amazing then and still is.
Today motors and batteries make things fast, but can you control it.
It’s a great piece of rc history and yes I’ve still got my original from 1985.
Totally agree Alan!! Thanks for watching and commenting👍
The Hotshot was my first RC car as well. Lots of great memories with that buggy then graduated to the RC10.
You never forget your first
@@PopalongRC Luckily my first was the Marui Ninja which was a bit faster and handled better than my classmate's Hotshot
Gotta love the predator there admidst the sheep rcs 😂 Gorgeous rc, probably one of the coolest rcs ever made.
Now there is debate !!!
Thanks for the video!!!!
Great to see you both at the Revival. 👍
Cheers IconicRc we had a great time … we will be back for more .
I built me one ...I changed stock silver motor to the Tamiya super stock z motor....magnets are super strong in the motor so it cogs really hard pushing it bk n forth also changed bushings to ball bearings in motor
Might give it another run this year
That is a fantastic track! I would love to give buggy racing a go but defo outdoors because the atmosphere is better somehow. I've never ever raced anything indoors and I'm old so maybe I'm just stuck in my ways. Anybody recommend an outdoors buggy club in West Yorks?
Nice setup brother👍🏼👍🏼its really exelent build brother😎🙏🤝🤝
In 1987 I always wanted to have Boomerang from Tamiya. But when I saved up enough money, I decided to buy Turbo Optima from Kyosho(01:08). It was pretty awesome. Back then, The Schumacher was the car to beat (07:11) I not believe that was 37 years ago.
Great vid as always…..for me, Iconic is like the RC equivalent of the whole Goodwood Revival scene lol…loads of old school stuff actually on track being raced.
Great way of looking at it …
Thanks for watching
It's so cool to see all these good looking old buggies together.
Back when they actually looked good before they ruined the looks of them with the stupid cab forward designs.
Got to love a bit of old school rc
Cab forward looks awful.
It’s not for everyone
I had a grasshopper age 5 dirt thrasher 8 with speed control and sport motor was good 👍
Would love to get back into racing my Schumacher pro cat just wondering what battery’s can you use now ? And what voltage can you run up too ?
7.4 Lipo is the go to
They have a great vintage class at the club which had a great turnout.

Hi my friend your videos look alsome mate looks a great day out and about keep it up bro 👍👌
Cheer Mogg … maybe you can Popalong next year …
@@PopalongRC will do but you too far away I'm in somerset bud
Enjoy !
Most these at beginning must be ore cursor to mantaray and dirt thrasher which I had
So do people actually race 70's and 80's cars in the revival race or reissue cars? Manual speed controller or esc? Nimh or lipo? I would love to go to one of those races if they had them in the US
I wonder if the Hot Shot would do better on a chunky dirt track…..?
Saw an amazing Hotshot on a Astro track at the weekend it was flying
I believe the Hotshot is 4WD, is it faster than a stock Hornet or Frog?
I concur
Nice work guys, looks amazing the track and atmosphere, and it is the fun you have on the day, 🏍️🏎️🚜🛺👍
Cheers Paul … thanks for watching
