This has been the most helpful video in terms of firmware and probably the only one which helped me coz the others don't go into details as you describe every minute detail. Thanks again!!
Very helpful, thanks! For those on a mac: Open "finder" and locate the latest version you downloaded (1.0.2). Click and open it. Don't put the whole file in the folder, just the firmware folder in to the SD card. The other is a instructions folder. Drag and drop the "CCF11102.FIR" onto the SD card.
Thanks for that & really useful. Only extra step according to the Canon blurp is once the upgrade is done, turn off the camera, remove the battery for at least 2 secs, replace the battery and then reformat the SD card to erase the upgrade file and all done :-)
The new version of ML (v2.3) works with the latest Canon firmware which is v 1.02. The previous version of ML (v2.2) works with the older firmware v.1.02.
I can ask him to link you to the instructions he used to get rid of metro. It doesn't look bad and has the functionality of 7 with the speed of 8. Would you like that?
Did you disable metro? A bud says he loves how fast it is, but didn't like the look of it until he disabled all the metro styles of it. For me, 7 does just fine right now. Not sure if you know Chris Pirillo, but he did a video of his dad using 8, then took it to the streets watch=Cor-lvXsgx0 Yeah, I'm not wanting to learn how to use a computer again. Started on MacII, so I've been through some changes, also. How are you liking it so far?
heheh. I'm using now windows 8 on my desktop pc.. To be honest mention of windows NT brought back a smile and my mixed memories of supporting that operating system at work :)
Tx Dave! Review helped a lot! A question if you or anyone else can help, cannot record more than 30sec of high def video. thought maybe the firmware upgrade would fix it, but it didn't. tx again
I just updated my firmware from 1.02 to 1.03 on my Canon T3i 600D. I followed all steps you have shown on your video. The firmware update had started. When receiving the message 100% it set OK and I pressed the set button. Since the camera keeps blinking. I can neither press the menu nor the info button. Please help! Don't worry, I managed myself!
Just a note, when updating - I found your battery has to be full. I tried a couple that where half full and it comes up with a message saying check battery is full or cannot update check battery is full. Other than that worked perfectly thanks.
I just brought my t3i,and I formated the SD card on the camera, and I downloaded the latest firmware(1.0.2) into the SD card, and when the camera reads the firmware on the card, and provides me the option to upgrade the firmware, it goes into downloading process, and then it suddenly shuts down on me. (it's not the battery) Do you think I have to start with the first firmware, and move up to the latest?
I use Macintosh and the Canon site didn't have the 10.8 Mac OS Firmware update, so I went to the 10.6 and found it there. Also, the SD card doesn't just plug into my Laptop so I plugged in a USB card reader so I could Drag and Drop (instead of extract) the new Firmware to my SD card. My common sense work around paid off, I then watched the rest of the video to finish up. He didn't say if I should ReFormat the SD card again, to clear it off of all files, but I think I will.
I accidently deleted the magic lantern files from my SD card and now my camera won't turn on with the memory card in, depsite having the most recent update on, help?
Did you need a zip extractor program on your computer to extract the zip file for /to the camera update (the implication from the video is that one is not needed ?)..thank you.
You sort of lost me around 4minutes in. The firmware program doesn't just extract to the card when on a MAC. I had to copy it into the EOS folder on the card and then it finally worked. All the PDFs on the canon website don't clarify anything at all either. Thank you for this video. Couldn't have managed it without watching this.
@@datadogie Actually, I did'nt see that it was asked 8 years ago and I wanted to help.... but I was super bored too. Thing did not work also, so I was happy to help hahaah
i have 600d ver1.0.1, i found on canonUSA the ver1.0.3 and 1.0.4, but MagicLatern justa have the ver1.0.2... so the question is, can in upgrade my ver1.0.1 for 1.0.4 anda intall in my camera the magiclatern ver1.0.2?
metro is a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest for a desktop, though i guess its essential on the tablet type devices its obviously designed for. The functionality underneath it is almost identical to Windows 7! I only have it cos I just bought a brand new pc and i wanted to make sure the windows 8 drivers for it all worked.
11 years later and still helpful, i was able to install the latest firmware update on the t3i i bought off of ebay. thank you!

Thank you for your very easy to follow videos. Please continue to make more!
como decimos en Colombia... usted es la monda!!! THANKS!!!
I thank you for this video because I was able to do the firmware update on my T3i camera. And the latest and last version is Ver. 1.0.3 now.
The new version of ML (v2.3) works with the latest Canon firmware which is v 1.02.
The previous version of ML (v2.2) works with the older firmware v.1.02.
Dave, I really enjoy your videos. To the point and exactly the information I need.
Cheers!

Tho I haven't tried it I am pretty sure you can do that no problem.
O darn I formatted it I didn't know it would delete my photos.
Of course it would delete your photo's. Maybe next time, you could backup your photo's to your desktop or laptop or an external hard drive.
lol
Thanks!! Helped solve my "NO MEMORY CARD" message!
Thanks for the mac tip!

i still have the firmware 1.0.0..can i go straight to this 1.0.2 then after this install the magic lantern v2.3? tnx

Thanks! Mate.

Hey Dave,
Is the t3i still using 1.02 version? or did canon update it in the recent years? I went online but they didn't have any update. Any ideas?
I don't have a card reader on my computer. Can I just connect my camera to the computer via the USB port and upgrade like that?
Sadly not: (
I tried to update firmware and now my t3i wont turn on with any sd card in it. What do I do?!?!
Thank you! :)
how to back update to version 1.02 if we have updated it to magic lantern?
Sir Good day! I just want to ask what program you use for recording from your desktop? Thank you..
God bless..
