14:00 OMG! That’s freaking brilliant! Lol. I’m sure the idea of using a device to help with pinpointing mistakes in a recording isn’t new technology, but seeing this for the first time - as I’m gearing up to enter the world of voice acting - is like discovering fire. Haha. Amazing trick, VOAngela!!
Well done! I love your slow deliberate pace. Another great video. Please keep them coming. If you have not already done one, please do at least one video on setting up presets to include the details of compression, hard limiting, etc.
Hey John! I have a video about setting presets but you're right, I do not have one regarding settings for those presets. It would be hard to give settings as everyone's setups are different. My settings may not work for your voice, mic, and recording space. I could record a video explaining what the settings are and a maybe a good range but you may have to tweak them a bit to your liking. :)
Excellent video, Angela! I wonder if it makes sense to use an AI tool for auto-reduction of pauses, like what Descript has? I do understand that manual edits are ideal, just if you're looking for a happy medium with saving some time?
Hello Angela, loving your content and presentation. It's really helpful to someone like myself that's just getting started in the business. One question I have is how would you approach speaking a sentence that has a long section in parenthesis in the middle of a sentence and then ends with a small portion that ends the original starting portion of the sentence. For example: The rain in spain (not to say that this is something that only falls in spain, but can take place anywhere where there is a certain amount of annual precipitation that takes place) falls mainly on the plane. I'm asking because there's something like this in an audition that I'm seeking to submit for. Thanks Angela.
I have noticed the last few months that I no longer enjoy recording voice-overs. that is why I temporarily started again with my old hobby painting art, to take some rest and clear in my head. but I still enjoy watching other voice actors' videos
Hello Angela! I just completed my first audiobook for ACX. I was amazed how fast I was able to get my first audition noticed and secured a deal. I have since auditioned for several books without success, or even a maybe. I could use some guidance for sure. I thought with my first success that I was a shoe-in for offers??? Reality check. HELP!.
Hello, am new to ACX and am so lost, I don't really know what to do, can you do a video for us beginners, this video was really helpful though buh I wish you take your time to go through us beginners. Thank you 😊
Thanks so much for another great video. Have you ever run across a book you wanted to audition for because it had a good storyline but found out the book had some minor mistakes that was not caught during editing. Such as they might of forgot letters in some of the words; like the “t” in stay so it read as say or the “h” in hand so it read as and. Is it okay to contact that author and ask if they will allow the narrator to correct that mistake when doing the audiobook or would it be best to just walk away and not even audition?
Absolutely! Self publishing is easier than ever, and cost effective. You can ask if the author would like you to proofread before you narrate for an extra fee. Be sure to give the author the updated draft so they can update the digital copy as well.
You mention a couple of times about making your ACX summary keyword rich. Are you talking about things like "voice talent"? Can you give some examples you use?
I would use adjectives that describe your voice. So the RH looking for your voice, can find you :) Like, warm, motherly, upbeat, conversational, friendly, relatable etc
I have always wanted to do this I am actually getting ready to submit an audition sadly I am not sure what the best way to land a job would be. I lost my teeth 10 years ago in an accident and because my insurance sucks the dentures I couldn't wear because they made my gums bleed, they did what they did. My diction sounds good according to my husband but I have a feeling its a white lie lol
I started VO on ACX a few months ago... at first I didn't know what I was doing, I'll admit that, but I've learned, about the requirements, the editing, and still no results. I'm starting to think that this might not be for me....
This is the hardest part, but it is the beginning. You have to keep at it. Keep learning, keep practicing and auditioning. Don't give in, just push past this and keep working at it. :)
So..to be clear... The time to audition can take just as long as forming final product for payment. Was it ..200 for 45 min? What recording equipment do you use?
The audition is a much faster process compared to an entire audiobook. The audition is typically only about 3-5 minutes. An entire audiobook is hours long... The standard rate for Audiobook production is $250PFH, or Per Finished Hour. But a Finished Hour of audio can be up to 6 hours of work, depending on your skill level. I use Adobe Audition as my DAW, a Sennheiser 416 for my mic, and a focusrite Clarett interface.
Fiverr frowns on this, but does ACX allow live remote contact between the VO talent and producer? Or is the talent just supposed to do the read without any input/direction? thanks
Actually, if you have live direction as one of your gig extras, you can offer live direction on fiverr. ACX does not have strict rules about connecting with the RH, I've never been asked personally, but I'm sure you could be directed live as well on ACX.
@@VoiceOverAngela I'm a VID (frequent buyer) on Fiverr ( and I would be the producer/director FYI) and they do allow Zooming through their system with a gig in progress - but I find it glitchy, plus they auto-record the session (I don't love that). Otherwise I've been warned by them about direct contact with Sellers, so it's a little fuzzy on that topic.
@@RockAndRollKitchen as voice actors, we do have the ability to offer live direction, apart from their zoom integration. As long as we clear it with support, offer it as an extra and that extra is selected, so it's okay if the order, it is allowed. Their zoom function is separate. I personally don't offer it yet, but I've spoken with my Fiverr Success Coach about the topic, and others already use it.
Hello, I enjoy your videos. I just received some of my equipment to set-up in my closet. You mentioned a clicker for editing inside your DAW. I am starting out with Audacity. Can you recommend a clicker? I checked out your website but I didn't see a clicker. Thanks.

I still haven't set up my equipment (due life has gotten in the way). Thank you Monica for your post reminder. Are you doing voiceovers?
@@VoiceOverAngela Thanks so much! I have CLAV as well, but I haven't messed with it's compressor much. I also have RComp from waves. I've just really been trying to figure out compression for audiobooks in particular.
Hi Pam! That's a great problem to have! This is why I don't really encourage people to audition 10 times a day, especially if they do narration part time. Because this may happen and then you're overwhelmed and freak out. Which I do, haha. I would try to arrange them in a timeline, work with the RHs to fit them into a schedule. Try to get at least a month to complete them, so if you have to work on each a bit at a time, you can. Letting the RH know you have others in queue is not a bad thing, you're in demand! Just do your best to find a way to fit them in a timberline that works for all of you.

I have heard from other sources that you should do basic editing before running your rack. Your thoughts?
I run my effects before I edit, so while editing, I can fix anything that my rack didn't catch.

If the submit audition button is not visible, the book may have been removed or already has a narrator for it.
