His equating of Mehdi Hassan to Hamas is a prime example. Given time and opportunity, he could have had the audience go after Hassan with a pitchfork.

The one thing no one seems to realize: the identity of the person making an argument does not affect the validity of the argument. No matter how horrible the person might be, if their argument is sound, in a debate setting that's really all that matters.

Well, I watched the Munk debate thing last night, and I mean, as usual, he's a very good speaker, but it was a bit tendentious, and I found the opposition (not Medhi or whatever his name is but the other guy) more compelling, but can't deny that Murray is a gifted speaker.

It would be a terrible format. It would need to be a structured debate where Dave had time to debunk a lot of faulty conventional wisdom. Dave should look into Peter Hitchens work on Assad not being responsible for the Syrian gas attack so that when Douglas inevitably brings it up Dave can say, "You don't even know that was debunked years ago."

Another flaw here with what Dave is saying, which I’m starting to see that if Daryl Cooper didn’t bring it up then Dave doesn’t know about it, is that in 1948 around 700k of Arabs that left their homes did so at the behest of the 5 major Arab militaries, and the couple odd other small militias, as they were warned weeks in advance on the impending attack on the zionists and to flee as to not be directly involved in the conflict.
Also, many of those rural, peasant, farming Arabs, if not most, did not own their homes. There homes were confiscated in conflicts past, much by the ottomans, whom then sold vast swaths of land to other rich Arab elites, who had absolutely no interested to live there but then rented back those same multi generational homes to the peasant farmer in return for a portion of their crops. The Jewish investment fund at the time approached and purchased many of these lands from their wealthy owners, albeit unjustly.
Both of these statements I’ve made are supported in so many historical texts… there are Arab newspapers in historical museums where, if you can read Arabic, you can identify these warnings to the local populous to gtfo.

Murray puts on a performance that everybody eats up, it's never the arguments or substance. You will crush him on the facts but it won't matter. That's why I wouldn't do it. Nothing good will come out of it except frustration.
The theatrical British accent is what does it. Everytime he speaks, he sounds like he's quoting Shakespeare. He's always had a knack for sounding more intelligent than he is.

He would need better arguments than he put in this video or it would have played the same. Half of Dave's talking points here prove Douglas' arguments. But Medhi was a good example of what the opposition is and the hatred and antisemitism that is reflected on that side of the debate. Subbing in Dave would only be used to disguise the hate.

I have been thinking about this for a while. It could just be he is a British conservative. Noting Britain at one point had a vast array of colonies in which they imposed their own form of government upon them. This could be his allegiance to Israel as such. It could also explain why many previous British colonies, USA, Canada, Australia support Israel.

He might rightfully make the argument that the US shouldn't be involved in the conflict to begin with, and cut out aid to all foreign countries, including Israel. At some point in the debate Murray's quoted as saying that Israel should wipe out Gaza's population. His defense of that quote leaves no doubt that he'd have stood behind Oswald Mosley if he were alive in the 1930s.

Many people (including Jewish people I know) think murdering any and all babies and children is bad. But Douglas argues it's acceptable if it's a certain group of people.
