Jimmy was inspired to write this song after hearing that George Harrison (from The Beatles) said that the problem with Led Zeppelin was they didn't have any ballads. This song is moody, melancholy, and triumphant all at the same time. It is a perfect example of Led Zeppelin's ability to create songs of "light and shade". Absolutely gorgeous.
One of Robert Plant's best lyrics" "Upon us all, a little rain must fall" . Really sums up how life can be at times. Everybody gets the blues sooner or later.
You know it's a Masterpiece when every time you listen you love it more. "Over The Hills And Far Away" is going to blow you away, "The Ocean" C'mon On. Love this Album
This is an epic arrangement, very lush and orchestral….there is an amazing you tube video of a 50 piece orchestra doing the Rain Song and the piano player does the vocal part,it is unreal you should check it out.
This entire concert (Madison Square Garden 1973) was filmed as part of a movie about Led Zeppelin called The Song Remains The Same. Each member chose a fantasy scene to be incorporated into the movie, and Robert chose The Rain Song. He was a knight in shining armor going to rescue the damsel in distress from the castle. To see Robert riding a horse on the beach with his fur cape and that beautiful hair flowing in the wind while this song played was just magical!! 🎶You must watch the movie when you're done with all the albums...you wont be sorry!! Thank you for taking this LZ journey and allowing us to follow along🎵🎸💙🎶💙🎸 So much of our youth is tied up with LZ, and this just takes us back to some of the best times of our lives😊💙
PS. looked this up, "On this track, John Paul Jones played the Mellotron, one of the first synthesizers; it sounds here like an orchestra for violins." From a website called Sound Facts. Once again the lead wizard is surely JPJ
Still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Watch the live performance. But you cannot separate ,"The Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song" 1972 live at msg
One of their best creations for sure. That's Page and Jones flexing their production muscles but there's a lot more to it than that. Their "ear". Their creativity in layering all of those parts. That's advanced stuff. They're pretty good.
🙋♀️ Led Head present!! Let's do this!!!😎 Yeah, this album is definitely different from the first 4 but a "good" different...wait til you get to "IN THROUGH THE OUTDOOR"!! (It has my all-time favorite Zeppelin song "ALL MY LOVE" on it!!) You're right.... this song IS brilliant, all-the-way around!! Love seeing your appreciation for it's greatness!!! Great reaction and now on to "Dancing Days"!! Get ready to do some chair dancing for us, it's a fun one!!😁
THANK YOU AGAIN~~~= JPJ holds them all together...HOUSES one of THE BEST LPs One of my favorite LZ songs.. You can really hear John Paul Jones w the headphones on. the little piano notes that are desgined to sound like raindrops, the bass guitar, violin, he is the glue behind the genius.... AND YES THEY ARE WIZARDS!!!!
I was not really a Led Zeppelin fan but of course liked a lot of their songs but when early 2002 a late night visited a bar in Rappongi Tokyo Japan and they played The Rain song followed by No Quarter I was hooked Now days the favorite is When the Leave Breaks, in part to the drumming which is the foundation of almost all Led songs
Absolutely, hands down my favourite Zeppelin tune. Or from anyone else, for that matter! 7.5 minutes of pure beauty. I find it almost impossible to concentrate on anything else while this plays. Definitely can't listen to it while driving!!
Love this song! What else can I say? Also, it is a song that reminds me of a romance I had one summer in college that would have made for a great movie other than its unhappy ending.

HS has the truth- exactly as I know it. Keep Rockin’ Henrietta!!!!
Lol. One of those “hold my beer” moments.

This is what you call a f*cking masterpiece!
You know it's a Masterpiece when every time you listen you love it more. "Over The Hills And Far Away" is going to blow you away, "The Ocean" C'mon On. Love this Album
Pure songwriting genius, masters at their craft at this point.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written...💜
This is my favorite song from this album and No Quarter a close second.
Same ♥️🎸🎤🎶♥️

One of the most goosebump inducing, beautiful songs.....ever
Every Zepp song is a Classic!
This and Since I've Been Loving You are my two favorite LZ songs...and I actually like the live version of this song from the 1973 MSG live concert
PS. looked this up, "On this track, John Paul Jones played the Mellotron, one of the first synthesizers; it sounds here like an orchestra for violins." From a website called Sound Facts.
Once again the lead wizard is surely JPJ
This song is so beautiful! Nobody but Robert Plant could have done these lyrics justice.
Led Zeppelin......this is one of my favorites songs from them. and also "Thank You."
Still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Watch the live performance. But you cannot separate ,"The Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song" 1972 live at msg
I always come back to this song as my favorite LZ song. It's never sounded less than flawless.

I love this song, and I enjoy seeing someone hear it for the first time.
It's just so fn beautiful it's my fave Zeppelin song 40 yrs
Beautiful music played to perfection
Led Zeppelin has a range from being like a symphony orchestra,to a funk band ,to a heavy rock and roll band…incredible
“If this don’t make you feel some kind of way” you summed it up perfectly Biz!
To have a Rainbow? You gotta have the rain.great song and reaction
A stunning Zepic….
John Paul Jones strikes again!!!
JPJ the silent assassin!!
Made me smile.
The album version of “Since I’ve been loving you” is dripping blues and will make you feel a certain kinda way. Thanks for the smile.
I love Led Zep♥️ This song is stellar!🎼🎸🥰
Many modern bands would kill to have one ounce of the vibe that Led Zeppelin permeate.
pure sonic alchemy

In fact, the first two notes of Rain Song were taken from, and Jimmy's homage to, George Harrison's "Something."
One of my favs but gotta be in a chill mood
The orchestral sounds you hear are generated by a mellotron, which was the predecessor to the synthesizer…
Exactly. Commonly used by The Moody Blues...
This is how you do a Ballard! Beautiful song! 🔥
The Rain Song is my #1. I could just listen to that guitar section whole day.
“Speak to me only with your eyes / It is to you I give this tune.”
Absolutely, hands down my favourite Zeppelin tune. Or from anyone else, for that matter! 7.5 minutes of pure beauty. I find it almost impossible to concentrate on anything else while this plays. Definitely can't listen to it while driving!!
This is such a beautiful song that I just had to come back for another listen.
One of my all time favorites! From the Mighty Zepp!
One of my favorite Zep songs.
Poignant masterpiece...achingly beautiful 😓

NEAJ! Just went for a ride. Love this song
It's an experience 🎸
This song live at MSG 1973 is a must
Love you Biz Man keep it coming!
🎸💯 Led Zeppelin perfection‼🔥🤯
The instrumental transitions are EVERYTHING on this song‼❤
Need to listen to live version the song remains the same going right into the rain song live epic !!!!
Definitely a ballad so smooth ✌❤🤘
I love many LZ songs. This one is the top.
This is maybe my fav reaction from you ❤️
Now that you are familiar with the studio version, you should check out The Song Remains The Same concert movie.and have a little fun.
Nice song to kick back and relax with a beer while watching it rain.
I enjoyed the song and your take on the song.
I believe the instrument you are asking about is a Mellotron
Yo Biz! You just get it man.
Beautiful song.
This is a great song too!
It's like being set adrift on a river of love....
A suggestion-J.GEILS BAND. Tons of hits!
SOUTHSIDE SHUFFLE
I DO
CENTERFOLD
WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO?
When you get around to doing ZZ Top check out El Diablo from Tejas. My favorite ZZ T tune period!!
I bet LZ are the only band to have used the word 'quotient' in a song.
You should do D'yer Mak'er (Jamaica) by Led Zeppelin. Some reggae infused into it.
in my opinion, The Rain Song > Stairway to Heaven
This in a special tuning. Jimis thing was that acoustic guitar belonged in rock. You better know your stuff to play this.
Check out "let's dee action" by the who. Another song that needs to be heard in todays environment.
at 6:50 i hear november rain from gun and roses...
Jimmy was inspired! This live is unbelievable
Love this song! What else can I say? Also, it is a song that reminds me of a romance I had one summer in college that would have made for a great movie other than its unhappy ending.
how soon is now - the smiths -------musically stole this
You could put a album of their ballads out and it would still sell bigtime.
Maybe you can do
Canned heat
Going up to the country
On the road again
Let's work together !
Thank you !
JPJ the silent assassin!!🔥🎶🔥🎶
George Harrison from the Beatles said Led Zeppelin couldn't write a ballad, if they tried. This was their response. Boy was George wrong on this one.
🎸
