Demonstration of a terrible technique. You don't hold and squeeze the needle tip with your instruments, that will cause deformation of the tip and will damage the tissue more than normally expected.

You are right about not grasping the tip, it may not be entirely clear in this video but the actual tip is not being grasped here, rather the teeth of the surgical forceps are being used to grasp the needle at the part before it starts tapering down. We agree that grasping more distally on the needle would be more oportune, however this is hard to achieve when taking wider bites. It is true that losing the needle from forcep's grasp as happened in this video is not most ideal. Concerning the tissue damage, the needle is pulled out of the tissue following the curvature of the needle in order to minimise trauma to the tissues.
