Such a WONDERFUL video Rachel :-) I LOVE Altamont gardens, its so BEAUTIFUL :-) and those snowdrops are so GORGEOUS :-) so many wonderful plants for sale, thanks so much for sharing and sending heaps of love and happiness from Waterford to Wexford for a fantastic evening XXXXXX
OMG I need to get there, look at all those fabulous plants in pots just waiting for new homes lol. and the snowdrops are amazing too. Great video Rachel!
Golly Gum Drop!! I was squealing with delight. Oh to be there. Spring is such a wonderful time. I have a lot of differrent Hellebores and lost a bunch over the different winters even though they were supposed to be hardy in our zone but such is the nature of it all. Lovely video.
+Jackie Binkley That is a shame about your hellebores, Jackie. They are such beauties and normally so tough. I love Altamont because it always reminds me that spring is just around the corner. Thank you for watching.
Marvelous selection of hellebores and early spring bloomers. Luckily my various horticultural enthusiasms / addictions over the years have never been extreme enough to lead to such extravagant expenditures as 200 E..Though I have no idea how much money my love of plants has cost me. I hope you bless us with some views of the lovely items emerging from the soil at Douentza on these early spring days. As always, thanks so much for taking us along.
+John OBrien Thank you for watching, John. Yes, I too have spent lots on plants over the years but I don't think I have ever spent as much as €200 on a single item!
I love hellebores! mainly because the deer won't touch them, i wish the deer would leave my daylilies alone. love the field trips, Ireland is so lovely!
+Clay Gresham Deer can be very destructive. We had rabbits last summer but now we have a cat so I'm hoping she'll see the little devils off. Hellebores are gorgeous. Thank you for watching.
+mohannad al madanie Yes, spring plants always cost a fortune in Altamont at this time of year. They cater to the connoisseurs. But that is okay. I like to look :)
Ooh, I love snow drops!! Thanks for making this video! I only knew one kind, the kind they sell around here, and I had no idea some could be so expensive. The one from here is smaller and cheaper. Do those clay pots have slits on the sides? I had never seen that kind around here before. In the US it's apparently easy to find really great cattleya clay pots with slits and holes, but they have just everything there. As an unrelated question, do you have any videos of the time when you and your kids knitted socks for the trees? I just read that chapter in the book and I wish I could see a video or pictures of that! :)
+Orchids & a Dutchy It is ridiculous how expensive rare snowdrops can be. I have the common one, Galanthus nivalis in my garden and it does great. They are easily divided every few years. It is good enough for me. Those clay pots had no slits. I have never seen clay orchid pots for sale here :/ As for the socks on trees, I didn't put them up last summer but I intend to do so this year as I still have them all and will probably make a video. Some people who visited last summer were disappointed that the socks weren't on display. I'll see if I can find some photos on FB and tag you :)
+Alan Chan I guess they get lots of water naturally. I'm not sure such a plant can be grown in warm climates. Did you say you were in Hong Kong. The snowdrop will flower in spring when in leaf. Then the flowers fade and wilt and the leaves grow vigorously. Then in summer the leaves disappear and it is dormant until the following spring. I hope this helps.
what a wonderful trip. Those plants for sale are amazing, I would have gone crazy. But one snow drop for 40 euro! and the one you mentioned for 200! holy crap! I'd have to stand guard on it and shoot the squirrels who came within 3 feet of a plant that expensive!
+annaisgrowing Yes, it is madness how much you can pay for snowdrops and that is why I stick to the common one in my garden. I believe the rarest ones in Altamont are not labelled as they tend to get dug up by dishonest visitors! I mean, think of the orchids you could get for that money and you wouldn't need to use a microscope to see their flowers either :)

+Jackie Kennedy It is terribly tempting at Altamont, Jackie. But bring your cheque book! You'll need it!
