We were joined by author and journalist, Peter Oborne, discussing his book ‘The Assault on Truth’. Peter shared his thoughts on how and why lying has reached industrial levels in the political sphere, with the result that democracy is under threat. Described by The Guardian as ‘a merciless account of Johnson’s mendacity’, Peter’s book ‘The Assault on Truth’ (published in February 2021) has been a Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller. It examines the ‘epidemic of deceit’ in Johnson’s Britain and Trump’s America and is compelling reading for anyone appalled at the lack of political accountability.
Peter Oborne is an award-winning journalist, writer and broadcaster who has written for a range of national newspapers and media platforms from The Telegraph, where he was political editor until his resignation in 2015, the Daily Mail and Spectator to The Guardian, Middle East Eye and Open Democracy. Additionally, among other works, he is the author of ‘The Triumph of the Political Class’ and ‘The Rise of Political Lying.’

You are no doubt well intentioned. Having Peter Oborne on testifies to me your integrity but having listened to the many speeches of Tony Benn made throughout his career I have long been convinced that the EU is a rich man's club which has and will do nothing for the ordinary man and woman on the street.
