NP Spotlight: Hawaii Keiki Program

Dr. April Kapu, president of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners®, visited Oahu to learn more about an exciting initiative to improve health care access for children - the Hawaii Keiki Program. A partnership between the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing and the Hawaii Department of Education, this program is establishing and enhancing school-based health services that:
Screen for treatable health conditions.
Provide referrals to primary health care and patient centered medical home services.
Prevent and control communicable diseases.
Provide emergency care for illness or injury.
