    Just wanted to add that the specific style of hiking shoe (laced all the way to the toe, etc) are called approach shoes! They’re typically meant for the hike before a rock climb, and occasionally for some light climbing (hence the rubber toe cap) :)

    I have been all in on corduroy since I found a pair of second hand LL.Bean loose pants about 5-6 years ago. At this point they are screaming to be replaced because some of the parts are very worn but corduroy is just not that easy to find. It is one of my favorite fabrics for fall/winter, the weight feels so nice on the body!

    Yup about the workwear brand in Japan having completely different stuff and slightly different branding. Lots of that here in Japan, sometimes they’re licensing a defunct or still operating brand but making completely different things for the Japanese market. I bought a wranglers jacket made for Tomorrowland that was made of fine suiting wool material and on the label it said that it was made under license of Wrangler USA but under a Japanese brand/holding co. The fit as you could imagine is also tailored for Japan. I saw some other revived American vintage sportswear brands over here as well 👀

    love the content!! fun fact the shoes you highlighted at the end (with the rubber soles and toecap) are actually a form of climbing shoe - they're called approach shoes, you can wear them hiking and actually to climb (regular shoes you'd tear through the toe without the rubber). another super popular style is the Keen Jasper - comes in a ton of diff colors!

    Yesterday I went down the rabbit hole of "waxed canvas bags." They too look like paper, but are very durable. There are several small US businesses that make them. I love the look of the fabric, but I don't need another bag! I've been carrying my Yoshida Porter bag--I love it so much. I'm also looking forward to wearing a brown (wide-wale) corduroy suit that I bought in Japan last year (used). It was only 3000 yen and you can tell it's not of the highest quality, but it's cute and the cut is interesting/different. The pants are a bit tapered and cropped and the jacket is very boxy and wide. I thrifted a lot of men's stuff in Japan last year!

    Look into Denim Production in Occupied Japan after WWII. A lot of Allied Companies (lead By the American Military and English Military) sent textile looms to Japan to aid in economic recovery. Many of these companies either abandoned the looms/mills or kept trade agreements after the occupation.. Yarmo may be a company that produced textiles in Japan. REGD is an acronym for Registered.

  • @eossoon
    @eossoon 23 дня назад

    On the subject of how there are Japanese versions of heritage western brands, you are most likely correct with your 7-11 analogy. The most well known example within the fashion world would probably be The North Face in Japan, which is essentially a different company producing clothing under the TNF license. It got so popular that it's known as purple label TNF now, and there are international consumers. Similarly, within the luxury space Burberry Blue Label/Black Label was produced in Japan by Sanyo Shokai under a similar licensing agreement. Burberry has since withdrawn the license, but the line was so big in Japan that they simply rebranded to "Blue Label/Black Label" and remained popular. To be more topical, within the workwear space, you might be interested in Ben Davis, a heritage workwear brand that was once ubiquitous in the Bay as the workwear uniform of the San Francisco longshoremen. Now, Ben Davis is barely sold and seen even in the Bay. Instead, they are remain popular in East Asia, where you will find Ben Davis, presumably also operating under a license, in every Americana shop. I can personally attest to the brand's popularity in Taiwan. Ironically, the Ben Davis clothes in Taiwan and Japan are still emblazoned proudly with the text "San Francisco", despite being largely forgotten in its home city.

    "approach shoes" (by Scarpa and La Sportiva - not all of their shoes are like this but generally the extra toecap = approach shoes) at 16:10 are for rock climbing / designed to be worn on the "approach" or hike to a rock climbing spot in the woods. please do not turn them into fashion because the outdoors industry already struggles with overconsumption, dilution of quality because of fashion over function, and price depending too much on trends rather than practicality. i encourage anyone to get into climbing and buy the right gear, but like the Arctery'x fashion craze is stupid and wasteful - environmentally harmful because overconsumption, and if a brand is struggling to meet demand, quality usually goes down so we all have to deal with that
