One other interesting tidbit that I realized when I was playing: distance is a factor, but there is also a maximum number of pips that can be on a structure, based on its size! So the square green that you had going cross-map was doomed to always be angry, but there was no way to fix it because there was "never" going to be a max number of cars that it wanted. Rejigging could only make them get onto the motorway a little faster, so the bottleneck was distance! For a full-map distance like that, I'd say 6 cars is as many as you need, maybe 7 at 10K+ :)
Unfortunately the August update has effectively increased distance, square dests seem to blow up much earlier game. They say they reduced junction delay for balance but I think road needs higher speed too as 1 or 2 Y's now add significant delay without traffic congestion. Some games you just cannot supply the demand with local housing, so you lose without an opportunity to solve the problem.
Came back to Mini Motorways after a year or so, and watched two of your videos this week. Your tips and calm ‘regular redesign’ approach helped me blow through my old high score of 2800. I just got a 4126 in Los Angeles! Keeping one motorway on reserve to quickly provide overflow support where needed while doing a more substantial redesign of certain areas was KEY. Never used traffic lights, deployed 2 roundabouts.
Something I don’t often see discussed with this game is how much left turns across traffic can hurt you late in the game. For instance, The issue with congestion at yellow on highway 2 could likely have been alleviated earlier by disconnecting the single yellow down below much sooner as it had to make a left turn across traffic on the way to the business and back in the span of one cell
That was my thinking. He's dead set against four-way intersections but he ignores cars making left hand turns. A road with two colors that don't cross lanes will remain uncongested.
One thing I've noticed about job priority is that motorways seem to only "count" for a single road. So when you moved M4 to support the skyscraper, those actually became the primary responders instead of the houses that were more road tiles away, even if the ones attached by the motorway were physically further.
love that yellow-blue traffic light, the way the blues stop to let the caterpillar of yellows through is so nice to see, instead of the two colours constantly interrupting each other
The only thing, that kept you from going infinite, was to reduce the number of greens on that double location, so the parking lot cannot be that crowded. Too many greens connected. Also in general you want to try to keep the entrances of double-location for 2-3 tiles free from crossing, so the leaving traffic does not cause congestion inside the parking lots, but on those 2-3 tiles outside... it's easy worth the additional distance. This single green house, intersecting right before the green entrance could due to its short distance travel so many journeys more than others, that it all alone caused leaving traffic to slow-down inside the parking lot, blocking yellow off from the other side. If you would have shifted that single green up to the circle, it would have been so much smoother. And on the other side, the two yellow houses could have been bridge-connected to one tile before the entrance... to give at least a little bit more space for leaving the parking lot.
I've got to play this game now! I was hoping the whole time where the yellow and green shared the same parking lot that you would route the yellow road around the right side to the south entrance and run the green road around the left side to the north entrance so they wouldn't be gridlocked in the parking lot. Or car park i believe you call it. There is so much stuff to watch in this game, i love the fast paced problem solving. I can only imagine how many times i'm going to slap myself for missing something simple.
That Green and Yellow scenario is a double edged sword. When cars come into that double parking lot they will park, and then always turn left to get out of their parking spot. So if you have cars coming in from the north and south they can get in each others way. So its a choice of if you want congestion on the roads outside, or congestion in the parking lot. Real tricky balancing act
I picked the game up yesterday and got 7000 in the weekly challenge (which was my third round overall). I am quite proud and also think that it came from watching you the last three weeks :)
A few booster fixes you made ended up becoming permanent. The dark blue had a yellow house cross it, also the motorway caused constant congestion. A frequent problem is suburbs becoming 4ways. Like the green you tried to fix near the end. A new problem I noticed was the yellow on the coast. Seems 2 T intersections was creating minor traffic. It had enough houses but the cars kept bumping at this turn. My guess is a traffic light could be a solution. It was quite a busy corner despite avoiding a 4... I'm still experimenting with mixing colors using roundabouts. Only results I have so far is that input and output must be equal. One red input for red output. Seems obvious but I kept making mixed color input which worked early 3k but was catastrophe at 4k+ due to so many skyscrapers. Funny enough the congestion was before input and in the mixed suburbs. The roundabout seems to be underperforming on single colors and I'm testing new approaches.
Just chiming in to say thanks for posting! I love playing this game but its hard because i have to be looking and using both hands to do it, and watching you play instead totally solved that for me, now i can do my embroidery work and feel like i'm playing :) Also I think you have the perfect amount of commentary, you explain whats going on without overdoing it and don't feel like you have to fill every second. Thanks!
So what I was looking at and why the right side failed with green and yellow were the sort of T junction intersections. Adding the green and yellow house down to the round about should have alleviated the issue. (In fact adding the bridge added to the congestion for yellow.) The same thing was happening on the far left with the yellow market. Basically what I've seen is that T intersections are bad and Y intersections are great. And avoid sharp bends as much as possible.
Hello! Just another youtuber here lol, But genuinely wanted to comment saying that I really enjoy watching your videos, one day the RUclips algorithm will take you and you will grow to be massive!! :)
Starting to creep into my late 20’s and I was watching this video without pausing completely entertained… I use to watch CoD highlights and clips, now I’m watching someone create a functioning motorway in a game for enjoyment. I think I’m getting old..
why do people becomming 30 always say this? youre just on one third of your life. you can do double the time you have already had. when youre 60 and have pain in your body just from waking up i think then is when you are getting old. late 20's is nothing. get excited for buying a new washing machine, stay in and play mini motorways :)
I think that you would have been able to run the greens in through the top, and yellows at the bottom (talking about the eastern car park that caused trouble). That would have sorted things out a bit I reckon
I’m wondering whether it’s better, if possible at the time, to have the two colours in a shared parking area enter from the same entrance as the traffic would never go against each other and flow better through it. Not sure exactly, would like to hear from someone who knows.
I've had 2 round dests in a double dest served by motorways late game and both were happy. You cannot get that volume of traffic through one entrance, the 9 bay car park handles it so long as traffic doesn't back up from junctions outside. Feeding from just one end makes that more not less likely as you join traffic outside.
I have Islanders and Oxygen Not Included videos going at the moment too. with Orcs Must Die 3 and 7 Billion Humans Videos also made. But for new games, i was eager to jump into 12 Minutes when it comes out in a few days
A very strong score, just you wait DD, I'll be coming for you and your rank this Saturday ;) I agree with your blocking ideology, it's just not a good thing.

Definitely could have hit 10,000 if you put a road behind the orange and green building for the orange traffic and a road in front for the green traffic
I know a car will slow down going into a 4 way intersection, so if i have a 4 way that is majorly used one way and not the other its a green line (pun intended) for the main road to be told they dont need to slow down and the other way can wait their turn. In a 3 way they won’t automatically slow so i dont know if that same appeal is there. Thats just the way i approach them in my head - you could well be right
I was playing this game, everything was going smoothly then suddenly the demand surges and i was in like week 17 and only had 4 motorways, feels kinda low, coz like if only i had 2 more motorways i could have scored mich higher my current pr in los Angeles is 3,689, i know its not much.
I had this channel recommended after I watched Xisumavoid (Minecraft let's player) play this game a couple weeks back. Been here everyday since! I absolutely love it as a chill end to my day.

"We want a little bit more efficiency" he says as he makes a 5-way intersection chokepoint to get onto motorway 2.
and refused to use the 4 traffic lights XD
traffic lights will only make 1 at a time faster he wants both
This is such a mature yet entertaining and relaxing commentary. Such a fresh change from the high energy commentary that across RUclips now 😊😊
Keep up the relaxed, Aussie commentary. It's such a nice change from the high-energy knobheads usually doing these playthroughs. Love the video

Everytime i check RUclips you have a new video out. I love it!
That on-ramp to M2, from the store side, for yellow being so long is making me aggressive. But your soothing voice makes it all better. Much love.
I don't comment with every video, but thanks again! Your videos are so relaxing after a stressful day.

Uhhhhh look at the left most clump of yellow houses… two reds just went into them lmao
Do houses spawn the same by city if you don't block? I had a practically identical game of los angelos minus not making it quite as far
I believe they are sort of zoned. so the chance you will get houses in the same area, is very likely.

Are we not gonna talk about the 2 greens at the top connected to nothing but each other
27:34 wtf are those red cars doing inside of that yellow house on the left of the map
Their road was deleted so they were using it to turn around in order to get to the motorway that was just placed.
