I know it’s been 2 years but wanted to answer this. It looks like this drum is 8-10 inches wide which is good for beginners especially if you are smaller. Personally, I really like the 12 inch wide / 24 inch high as it allows for more space / more diverse sounds but it may be a bit bulky for some people.
I know it’s been 4 years but I also wanted to answer this. It’s all about learning accuracy at the beginning and understanding how much of a difference hand position makes. When I started ,my teacher had me buy a conga drum that was 7 1/4 inches across (I just measured it, invest in a quality drum because I still have mine to this day). I still use it when I need something not as loud . The 12 1/4 inch djembe which I eventually bought to play in a live setting is a beast that you have to keep tame or it will over power other musicians and piss off your neighbors when you practice. Another bonus of my conga drum is the ability to take it places more easily without taking up a lot of space in the room/trunk/backseat/live space. We are instruments of Gods love, act accordingly in the song that is life.
You're not even playing authentic West African djembe drum beats you picked up a West African tribal drum and you're just doing regular drum beats you should just go play the flute
